- I colorized, restored and created sound design for this video of New Version of stunning dashcam footage from a trolly car in 1931 shows the picturesque Leipzig, Germany. follows through the city, creating a truly immersive atmosphere. Many of the old buildings we see no longer exist today. In the video, there are hardly any cars on the streets, as many people are walking or cycling.

Naja ,nicht ganz ...ich bin 1973 in Leipzig geboren und habe da bis 1990 gelebt ,also zu DDR Zeiten .Ich kann dir sagen ,einiges was man hier sieht ,war im 2. Weltkrieg nicht zerstört und sah mangels Sanierung ,bis in die 90er Jahre so aus ,wie du es hier siehst ,diese Zeit war also sozusagen konserviert .Als Beispiel am Anfang die Volksgartenstraße und der Torgauer Platz .Ich habe als Kind in der Ecke gewohnt und der Torgauer Platz sah 1984 ca auch nicht viel anders aus ,als 1931 ,an vielen alten Häusern ,waren auch die historischen Vorkriegswerbeaufschriften erhalten . Leider muß man sagen ,wurde ab den 90er Jahren sehr viel auf " neu " saniert ,so daß von diesem " originalen " leider nicht viel übriggeblieben ist ,Straßenpflaster und Fußwege allerdings ,sind vielerorts erhalten geblieben .
@@alex52741 Also ich lebe jetzt noch in Leipzig und die meisten der Gebäude sind nur saniert worden. Locker 70% der stadt sehen noch genau so aus. Andere Farben vielleicht und das eine oder andere moderne Gebäude dazwischen aber ansonsten....

Mir kommen immer die Tränen, wenn ich dieses wunderbare Vorkriegs-Leipzig sehe, dieses tollen Gebäude, diese Ordnung und Sauberkeit und or allem auch diese eleganten Menschen.!
Ich fand das schwarz-weiße Original stimmiger als die Colorierung, fur mich schwimmen die Farben zu sehr. Dennoch vielen Dank für's Einstellen!
Schlimm, zu sehen wie hässlich und runtergekommen es damals dort aussah. DDR und Ðemokratie haben der Stadt gut getan.

Wobei ja viele Altbauviertel ( Lindenauer Markt ,Kuhturmstraße ,Plagwitz etc ) die den Krieg überstanden haben ,original und authentisch erhalten waren ,mangels Sanierung .Also ETWAS war von dem Charme bis Mitte der 90er ,also nach der Wende ,noch da .Mit der ganzen Saniererei auf neu ,war das dann leider alles weg .Torgauer Platz hier ,sah übrigens zu DDR Zeiten auch nicht so viel anders aus ,hab als Kind Anfang der 80er in der Gegend gewohnt .
Konnte man zu DDR Zeiten noch vielerorts SO -natürlich mit " modernen " Autos und Straßenbahnen -miterleben ,z.b in Plagwitz ,Lindenauer Markt ,da war diese authentische Patina original erhalten . Heute ist leider davon in der Tat nichts mehr übrig .

It wasn't just about the two world wars though was it, people looked after one another better then they was outdoor markets and affordable industries when we could actually burn fossil fuels to power our trains, our homes and businesses. That was a time of ladies and gentlemen when men had more respect for ladies and thus gave women an easier life, the issue of single mothers wasn't as bad then, people had to be more human then because that is what was required for everyday business, what was to come after the first world war was worse that's why it led to a second world war, what used to be the holy roman empire was attacked first this then led to independent nations that were to be the first countries germany would target to salvage what they once had as the poles and Czechs and Jews had migrated to Germany and Austria, you had the rise of bolshevism as well. The two world wars led to the two super powers of the United States and the Soviet Union you know mk ultra and making the environment radioactive as they mobilise nato countries for nuclear war whilst conserving more and more of our energy. Back then you had cotton mills, textiles, wool industry then we brought in machines to make it safer i'd rather chance it with hand tools but society has gradually gotten more fast paced and hardly anyone has the patience now, if they could download a skill they would. They was a vast array of crafts then but now it's gradually becoming all e-commerce. Slaves were never used for any of the skilled labour we needed architect's and engineers for that but look what we've got now a slave mindset where people have the freedom to preach it at colleges and universities. Construction for the crystal palace in london took seven months in the 1800s which hosted the first industrial revolution expedition.
It kind of makes me sad to see how peaceful these scenes are knowing that in a few short years a tyrant will rise and cause so much death and destruction and for what? Reminds me of what's going on around the world today.

Leipzig ist meine Geburts- und Heimatstadt. Obwohl ich jetzt nicht mehr in Deutschland lebe, habe ich immer wieder mal Heimweh nach ihr. Vieles habe ich wieder erkannt, was noch nach dem Krieg erhalten geblieben ist. Ich habe festgestellt, dass die Menschen damals viel entspannter waren und die Stadt viel sauberer, wie ich sie kenne. Ich hätte mich sehr gefreut, wenn die Straßenbahn in Richtung Eutritzsch gefahren wäre, denn in diesem Stadtteil bin ich aufgewachsen. ❤

Ja die Eisenbahnstraße im Jahre 31 zu sehen(bin da aufgewachsen 1966) mit denn vielen Bäume + Sonnen Jalousien ist schon schön, aber kenn ich so nicht. Ansonsten haben die Bomben der Straße nicht so viel geschadet (bis ein paar Ausnahmen, die Karussell Lücke nahe Wintergarten) Die Ludwigstraße(parallel) hatte da nahe Reichsbahn Gelände mehr Pech.

One of the major sights I enjoy on these fantastic remastered videos it the views of the downtown area and the lack of automobiles and motorcycles. The streetcar was the major means of getting from Point A to Point B. Fantastic remastered film. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming!

If you look at the almost 100 years of restored films, you can well imagine how UNFORGETTABLE it was for the Leipzigers at that time, that a war can destroy everything, everything. It is a pity that we never learn from mistakes, and more and more war reports are the daily news. Therefore, a thousand thanks to the team and their preparation of the documentation.

@@IronIck45 Das sind verschiedene Viertel. Der anfang sieht aus wie der osten Leipzigs? Dann erkenn ich noch den waldplatz und Jahnallee und den Petersteinweg, Roßplatz und Augustusplatz usw.
Ja, schon klar-aber mir würde eine Minutenangabe mit Strassenkreuzung helfen um die Strecke nachfahren zu können.
Oh hier ist eine ähnliche Fahrt mit Strassennamen einblendungen, das hilft sicher.

Faszinierende Bilder! So sauber ist die Stadt und das trotz damaliger Weltwirtschaftskrise, die Deutschland zu dem Zeitpunkt, Anfang der 30er Jahre schwer getroffen hatte.

So sauber und schön und alles war tatsächlich ein bisschen langsamer .Und alles erbaut und in stand gehalten nur mit Muskelkraft und heute haben wir alles erdenkliche an Technik und co. , bekommen es aber nicht hin wieder einen solchen Zustand zu erreichen.
Jeder hat Angst, zu wenig zu bekommen oder zuviel zu arbeiten.

At 10:54 you see "HORCH AUTOMOBILE" (Horch Automobiles). Horch was the founder of the company and it is also an old fashion German word for the command "Listen!". They replaced it with the same in Latin: AUDI.

This film is just like the 1906 San Francisco film. The only difference is that there are fewer horse carts as more cars were available in the 1930s

Kann es sein dass bei der Bearbeitung etwas schief gegangen ist? Die Menschen, die Autos und die Fuhrwerke wirken deutlich zu schmal. Insbesondere sieht man das bei den Fuhrwerken (Leiterwagen) , die rechts am Straßenrand stehen.

Wow, hab’s mir 3 mal angeschaut und werde es noch öfters tun;) schade das es keine Fahrt in den Süden von Leipzig gibt. In der torgauer Straße gibts noch nicht viel zu der Zeit. Die Bahn startet dort wahrscheinlich an der Endhaltestelle..heute gehts da bis nach paunsdorf. Die Eisenbahnstrasse ist eine Wucht! Damals arbeiter-viertel, heute eine der Problemstrassen, was Kriminalität angeht. Zum Schluss und dann nach der Waldstraße, wo heute das neue Sportforum liegt gibts auf dem Video auch noch nichts, vor knapp 100 Jahren😃 nach der Ziegelei Straße ist es zu Ende. Leider. Es würde dann Richtung Lindenauer Markt gehen..
Also es gibt nur eine Frage: gibts noch mehr von den Videos?
Damals fasste Leipzig 700.000 Einwohner, obwohl es flächig viel, viel kleiner war und weniger bebaut.
Eine tolle Zeit, als noch nicht die ganzen Autos alles zugeparkt haben!
Es ist viel erhalten geblieben in Leipzig und ich liebe die Jugendstil-Häuser! Leider ist zu DDR Zeiten mehr zerfallen, als dem 2. WK zum Opfer gefallen ist und vieles wurde nach der Wende (1990) abgerissen, was noch erhalten werden hätte können.

EXCELLENT VIDEO! A Wonderful Restoration!! A couple of things in this video really stood out in my opinion. 1st Travelling through this German City, it looked Very Similar to travelling through any North American City of the same Size , I found that interesting. 2nd, this film was reported to have been taken in 1931 just a couple of years before Adolf Hitler came to power, I was always of the thoughts that Germany was in Economic Ruin prior to Hitler coming to power, and that one of the main reasons Hitler won the Elections was that he promised to fix the POOR ECONOMIC state of affairs that existed , he stated "Give me 4 years and I will Fix the ECONOMIC DEPPRESSION " I can't say I really saw anything that would indicate an ECONOMIC DEPRESSION or anything like it in this Video taken in 1931. I saw no SOUP LINES or Beggars in the Streets, actually quite the opposite, the people of LEIPZIG in this video look reasonably well off for the most part!! Again, it was a lovely day for a Street Car Cruise.!!
just for ur information. he did not realy win the election back than. the nazis manipulated the election. in some regions they overwatched the elections. it was not realy a free election in 1933. they canceld legal votes if they were not voting for the nsdap. in some regions they also had no voting booth so they could clearly see what someone voted, they also bullied people to vote for the nsdap and a lot of other things that is not legal for a free election happend back than
The effects of the crash were a bit delayed compared to the US, this was filmed just before the really bad downward spiral began.
They didn't suspect the horrors that would take place just 8 years later with the events of WW2...
Was Leipzig one of the cities bombed in the second world war? I have to wonder how many of these buildings no longer exist. We have to be eternally, grateful to all those who had the vision and foresight to capture everyday life in their time, all the average and mundane, no one thought anything of, so that it could be a priceless, treasure for those generations well, into the future. Can you imagine, Hitler was roaming around as a young man, when this was filmed, and who could possibly, imagine all that would happen in just a few, short, years ahead. Wild.
Never underestimate the things you capture today, guys, as they could very well, be the priceless, gems to generations to come, well into the future.

Back in the Day, pedestrians and cyclist, although not having gone to school to learn Physics (Mass, Speed, Energy, Momentum, Relativity, etc.), they had the natural instinct to respect objects bigger than them. They got out of the way. They did not have the pedestrian mentality we find today; complete with the hope they my be able to use that lawyer number they got from watching daytime TV (while everyone else is working).

etwas überdigitalisiert, dadurch geht die Authentizität etwas verloren, geht aber in Ordnung - hat sicher viel Arbeit gemacht.

Oh, well, maybe it's just me being a sthickler. But I think the aspect ratio is slightly off on my device or something. Because it's not perfectly round, all you have to do is look at any of the wheels on any of the vehicles, and you'll see they don't look like they're perfectly round. They look a little slightly elongated. But then again i'm a stickler still love the video

Bei allem Respekt vor dem Haufen Arbeit, welche in diesem Video steckt : ds neue Sounddesign nervt nach spätestens 5 Minuten ob seiner häufigen Wiederholungen 😞. Ich kenne ja auch die erste Fassung des restaurierten Videos. Diese finde ich persönlich besser.
Ich kenne aus eigener Fahrerpraxis die gezeigten Strecken mit Stand ab Ende 70er sewlbst. Sooo wenige Gebäude sind gar nicht verschwunden 🙂
