Honestly all their demos have this to them. It's such a shame their record label wanted the overly gothic sound taken out for a more gneric hard rock sound, they got to keep the gothic undertones at least, but these are such a treat. Not to say some of their "final" versions of stuff aren't bad but a lot of the demos frankly sound BETTER and knowing some of them are on very hard to find albums is really sad.
So happy this band became a vast part of my life. I listened them being sad and happy, in love and lonely, high and sober - they are good for literally every moment

A lot of these demos you can clearly hear their influences, down to the bass heavy tone, the Josh Silver synth/organ and the Kenny Hickey guitar scratching, it's lovely to us but as an upcoming band you probably need to make it a little less obvious if you want your own sound.

I first heard HIM back in 2004, and have been a huge fan since. The fact that they're not together anymore is a travesty. That being said, this demo album is absolutely fantastic! I honestly think I like these versions more than what made it to the album. This version of Resurrection is mind blowing!
If they ever do a reunion (please, Please, please), they should perform some demos. I love this version so much! They have some almost progressive rock sounding stuff. Just another testament as to how talented they are/were!

Antto (the first one) was my favorite of the keyboardists...not that Pluto (the 2nd) and Burton (the 3rd) were bad they both were awesome too but I really liked the sound aspect Antto and Patka (the first drummer) brought to the band. Wish they never got fired :/

This is from 98. I'm pretty sure it was either Zoltan or the 1st Keyboardist. My guess it was the 1st one since this album contains the version of Join Me they played live in 98, and the keyboardist for that was their first guy. Also drums are defitnetly Patka's execpt Too Happy because that's when he left.
There is an energy in these that aren't on the official release. I love these so much more. Like the Thulsa Doom version of Salt in our wounds... Ville put more of his heart into these and some of the re-recordings on the Uneasy Listening collections.
They never were underrated, the management made poor choices. They went commercial for USA success and failed. I saw them 1999 until 2005 several times in Helsinki. It was all good and they were on the rise until Bam Margera happened and USA became main target. A very bad combination
People that are saying it's better than the originals. I think all are amazing all the same. Nothing is better or worse. Anything from Ville Valo is great!!! Than again I really like this Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart version!!!

HIM has been my favorite band for what will be 20 years in November. Yeah, I have an anniversary (or HIMiversary) date for when I bought my first HIM album. In all fairness, it was the same day my best friend passed in a car accident and they got me through it.
I have never fully enjoyed listening to GONE WITH THE SIN until now. This version is sooooooooo much better! It would have been nice if they left the instrumental parts in JOIN ME. :)

Every time I read about this demos I assumed they would be lacking some kind of polish or some kind of refinement. But this sounds like the next step of love metal and gothic metal, and I can find nobody composing and recording music with this style and this quality

I love these versions, but Razorblade Romance is the best album ever to me. I think these demos are very charming, but don't know if they'd be as genre defining and generation-changing as the final product in Razorblade Romance
