Ah the memories. I remember my father coming home from Cork one day with the C64. Years later myself and the brothers begged and got the the Amiga 500. Then years later again the older brothers pitched in for the 1200. They were the best years. Pure joy and innocence.
First Amiga I bought was A600 but it had UK plug and I didn't know how to replace it so I returned it and took Amiga 500+. I didn't regret it - bigger keyboard, could use A570 with it (CD reader with incredible 1x speed). I sold her and bought Amiga 2000 with hdd, turbo card and additional memory (it's still in my mother's basement). Best memories ever. And best heat radiator in the world - kept my feet worm in winter.
I had an Amiga 500, absolutely brilliant computer. It had some great games as well. Cannon Fodder, Midnight Resistance, Worms, Sensible Soccer, Zool. What a classic bit of kit.
Great video! Love your story of that Christmas. That's what it's all about. I did the same end of 2018 I purchased a Batman Pack Amiga 500 and had it shipped to my parents in the UK as I live in Australia. Had to wait until Christmas 2019 to go collect it but it was so worth it to relive those childhood memories. Well done for getting yours. Awesome stuff!
Great nostalgic unboxing! Piracy didn't kill Commodore. In fact, I would say it helped sell a lot of Amigas. What killed Commodore was mismanagement and bad business decisions.
Invariably I discover that many of the people whose work I admire had an Amiga at some point in their life. I'm a little older than you, but my brother and I got our Amiga 500 around '92 as well. It was the plain vanilla box, but we loved that thing, and within a month we were firing up Monkey Island and my little brain was exploding with the possibilities games presented.
Thank you for this, a trip down memory lane. Went all out on mine back then, with the amitech silent drive, chip and HDD mod too. 💓 Amiga 500 and 1200 here
Amiga 500 plus Cartoon Classics for me. The first one I had was in February 1992 and I got one from eBay over 2 years ago. The Amiga 600 came out in 1993.
I've got a lot of fond memories of my old Commodore Amiga 1200. My parents ostensibly got it for me to do schoolwork, for which it was very useful (alongside a really noisy old dot matrix printer), but it's the games I remember most. I had some true classics that I was just too young to appreciate fully at the time, like Frontier Elite II and Wing Commander, but we picked up so, so many demo disks from magazines there was never any shortage of games to play. And I wasn't even the worst offender; my dad became thoroughly addicted to a couple of card games we had. He continues to play the Windows versions to this day, though he still claims those Commodore ones were better. It's still hanging around somewhere in the somewhat less pristine remains of it's garish box, hope it's all right. I'm tempted to dig it back out again myself now. PS. Also tempted to dust off my GOG copy of Pharaoh now too
Aw man. I never had an Amiga but all my mates did. Loved the 500. We wrote games as a ‘collective’ of 13 yr olds. Played all the Psygnosis games. Looked at how much better games like Rick Dangerous were than on my Speccy. All the feels.
I grew up with first a Commodore 64 and then an Amiga 500 (upgraded to 1 meg of ram) - before moving into the world of PC... Loved my time with the Amiga and always wished we got an Amiga 1200 but as you said, commodore went out of business lol... One thing though Danny - the Amiga was NOT A CONSOLE lol - it was a proper, abliet not very powerful computer, with an OS and all that jazz :)
Very cool to see an original retro console being unpacked, I'm only 23 so never got the chance to play with an Amiga and my first consoles where the PS1 and a Gameboy pocket/color. So glad that u uploaded this💙
Wow this brought back so many memories! I'm a little older and my first gaming machine was the Spectrum 128k, handed down from my Father. But the Amiga 600 was the first real machine I remeber realising and appreciating what it was! Cannot wait for the next video!
Amiga 600s, 1200s and 4000s will all fail due to the surface mounted capacitors that were used. If your 'new' A600 hasn't been re-capped do yourself a favor and don't turn it on. There are many people in the Amiga community that can point you in the right direction.
Danny, this brings back such great memories. Not sure which model we had, but it was one of the ones where the computer was separate from the keyboard. Seeing that Deluxe Paint III cover was like being run over by a nostalgia truck.
For me, the Amiga 500 is the first computer / game system I ever owned. I loved the old Bard’s Tale and Gold Box AD&D games, and Shadowgate. They got me into RPGs. My life may have been totally different, without that box. Because it started a love of games that’s lasted my whole life.
I never had an Amiga (at this point I had a NES/SNES/Mega Drive), but used to play on the Amiga my friends across the road a bit - main game springing to mind is Captain Planet, heh.
Oh wow, I'm pretty sure that is the exact same box I got for Christmas as a kid too. I doubt the box still survives but I think my parents still have the machine stored away to this day.
I'm more than happy with what we had available to us here in the U.S. in the '70s/'80s/'90s, but I do regret that the Amiga wasn't bigger here. All its different iterations intrigue me.
I remember growing up playing C64 games that i had on MC cassetts, then my friend bought an Amiga 500... we played Canon Fodder and Lemmings for hours :)
Amiga is not a console, the fact it has a keyboard / mouse is a big give away !. Also says why does the formula 1 car have a Commodore logo on it .... probably because it’s a Commodore Amiga and this guy is a tech reviewer.
You gotta make sure you open that thing up and check capacitors, clean things up and replace unless the ebay seller already took care of all the restoration.
I literally have the same boxed amiga 600 bundle in my spare room. It's the one I had from childhood.... Sadly it doesn't work, I suspect a bad psu. Got most of my old games too.
I woulda committed petty crimes to get a hold of Deluxe Paint 3 back when for my C128. Sadly Amigas were something that would only live in magazine ads for me, they seemed so cool.
Amiga 600 took my gaming virginity too. Spent sooooo many hours playing chaos engine with my dad as a kid. There was one game where there was a character who tries to kill you and says “9 millimeter”, can you end my suffering and name that game - I’m leaning towards putty but I’m not sure...
Ps, I’m missing my family holiday too. The wife and I were supposed to be back in the UK from NZ so our 1yr old daughter could meet my parents, heartbreaking to cancel...
Nice socks. The 600 was a big fail actually. But I resently bought one, I like it - way more appealing than an a1200 and... it is giving me a really hard time. Kick 3.1 check, 2MB Chip mem check, caps look fine, voltages good, boots from FD, does not boot from the CF. I will get another cf card Thursday or so. 16bit PCMCIA network adapter is waiting. Maybe I want to play some games now and then, but I also want to use it with a working network connection, like controlling raspberries using telnet or ssh, using FTP to transfer stuff etc. A nice machine that I enjoy using, typing on and getting some basic stuff done on the network.
I have had more luck using IDE to SD converters instead of compact flash cards. Had a couple of CF cards die on me when used as hard drives, and they can be fussy about booting sometimes, plus they're becoming less available and heading for obsoletion.
There you go blaming piracy for Commodore's demise. That was going to be a problem for the software developers just like it was for PC games and software, not the hardware makers. And despite knowing this they kept producing titles for the Amiga until the very end. It was the piss poor management. They didn't know to specialize in a niche and trying to go after the console market near the end with CD32 when PCs had caught up in sound and graphics and Commodore not going ahead with the AAA chipset. They were just flailing their arms at that point. It is sad when stubborn CEOs can single-handedly tank a company like that. Then its intellectual property was sold off to cover debt and that was that.
No, they like to call things what they actually are. That's why I don't call a Tomato an Apple. Keyboard, Mouse, Printer Port, Word Processing Software.. etc.. yeah it's definitely a Console 🙄
how many other consoles do you own that have a keyboard, mouse connector, serial, parallel and disk drive ports and built in DOS? It's not about being "above" anything!
Cant wait for you to get conversations of Amiga with Jeff, who seems to massively hate amiga, in inserts it to random game conversations like this is just crap amiga style. any crap game, "this looks like amiga game" would probably a lot of danny talking, making points, and jeff going hmm mm ok, hmm, mm, because he is too diplomatic.
Calling Amiga a console...jesus the nerve xD They made fucking Babylon 5 on Amigas :D That's gotta be a nice feeling though. I skipped Amiga and went from a C-64 to a PC in 90-91. Friends had a few and it had some really nice games and we watched soooo many demoscene productions on them too...
The Amiga was not a console... it was a fine computer. The best home computer ever created
It's a great video but I do wish some people would stop calling it a bloody Console 😖😖😖

I had the Amiga 500 back in a day. Lovely.
This took me to some places. Thank you.
Amazing. I'm a bit older so it was the Amiga 500 with the Batman pack for me.
Yes! I had this too. Very similar story to Danny too.
I’m a little younger. Amiga 1200 was my first. Deluxe Paint IV AGA. I’m a professional artist now. Not a coincidence. Love the Amiga. Always will.
Me too 1990!! Amiga 500 Batman pack for Xmas with FA 18 intercepter Dpaint III and newzealand story!! Great times!!!
It is NOT A CONSOLE.... It is a computer.
Danny confirmed for being the sort that hangs out inside with the lights off.
Wait, if it's daytime and your blinds are up, do you turn on the lights?
I guess Danny doesn't needlessly waste energy. What a chump, right fellas?

Great video.
For me it was the 500 i grew up with.
I bought one a couple of years back. Its amazing!
I'm watching you since 7 years it's unavailable.. You are the one who got me interested in video games reporting
Those old Amiga days were magical. I still have Amiga 4000 lying around.
Unboxing an Amiga. All the emotions. Things are getting better here in Ireland Danny. Hope you get to see the family soon.
First Amiga I bought was A600 but it had UK plug and I didn't know how to replace it so I returned it and took Amiga 500+. I had completely forgotten the game ‘Pushover’ with its Quavers connection and now I can’t wait to see you make a video about it! 🤞
Great video! Love your story of that Christmas. That's what it's all about. Now I'm imagining Danny as the "Nintendo 64!" kid, but more Irish
that "pharaoh" game in the background. Such a good city builder in the impression city builder series :-)
yea it's one of my wife's favorite game from her childhood
I remember playing the demo and being mesmerized. It would be great to go back to that.
Ahhhh DeLuxe Paint... days when Electronic Arts was one of the good guys...
I had the privilege of owning a Amiga 500 Duck Tales Bundle.
Good old days.
Im still waiting for some company to make a mini cd32. :)

I'm sorry you missed out on your family holiday mate. Hopefully it won't be too long.
My first Amiga, the 600 and the same WWW pack, I simply LOVED IT!
Majorca is the most working class holiday ever , but as my dad would say never go Manorca it’s full of Germans
I really loved this video. Thanks so much for sharing this moment Danny°
Danny is too wholesome for this world
Amiga was actually definition as a home computer not a console.
Man, I still regret giving away my Amiga 2000. Pretty easy to emulate these days, but I'd still love to have the original system.
Aw man. I never had an Amiga but all my mates did. Loved the 500. We wrote games as a ‘collective’ of 13 yr olds. Played all the Psygnosis games. Looked at how much better games like Rick Dangerous were than on my Speccy. All the feels.

Looks in the background...I see what you did there Danny. Well played.
I still have my A1200 bought in '94 with the blizzard 1230 IV accelerator. And it's a computer not a console, don't insult her ;-)

Never had the smaller A600, had the A500 then the A1200, great machines 👍
I enjoyed this so much. I also grew up with an Amiga too. Great times.
3:00
I'm trying to get hold of the 600 myself, it's the one that I missed out on.
My brother and I wanted an Amiga so bad in the late 80s, they were too expensive so we ended up getting a ZX Spectrum +3
Ahh the Amiga. So many memories. Been looking out for a 500 on eBay, one day.
For me it was the Commodore 64 Hollywood pack. Best Christmas ever
My first console was a Video Pac G7000 (1kb memery).
Second was the Commodore 64, loved that machine.
Third was the Amiga 1000, good times.
I remember growing up playing C64 games that i had on MC cassetts, then my friend bought an Amiga 500... we played Canon Fodder and Lemmings for hours :)

Where was the console? All I saw was an home computer?
The Point, The Point,The Point
Classic Danny, throwing them packing peanuts all over the place "PACKING PEANUTS!" 😂
The 500 was the best seller and I would say that the 1200 sold better than the 600.
I hope the person who sold you this gets to see how happy it made you.

1st thing to do, Recapping can see the 600 hasnt been open so caps are bad :)

Oh my god! The memories!! Thanks for this 😃
You still have the box and in good nick! Absolutely wonderful. Ok, ahh it's not your original. However, still wonderful find and buy.
not a console!
I've been wanting to get in to the Amiga for ages.
Is the 600 any good for a first time Amiga user ?
Dang it Danny, now you have me looking up Commodore systems on Ebay...
Good for you man. 👍
Exactly the pack I had. Good memories.
Pretty much the same reason I started buying all the gameboys I used to own and the main games I had for them
So happy for you! I'd have to go all the way back to a TRS80 model I lol!
Hey Danny, I was wondering, what ever happened to the basement set of yours, with all the gaming memorabilia?
I had a fully upgraded Amiga 500.
packing....PEANUTS!!!! wait...why didn't you slam the box down and it explode an amiga????
We had the A500 Screen Gems pack. All of the games were garbage, but back then it didn't matter, especially thanks to Xcopy Gold ;)
Nice socks.
The 600 was a big fail actually. But I resently bought one, I like it - way more appealing than an a1200 and... it is giving me a really hard time. Please record videos using the machine! :D
so jealous. The true golden age of gaming.
amazing video
Is that an LG Nano tv?? I have the same one for my room!
This is such a cute video :3
how much you pay for amiga 600

Careful with calling it a console. The Home Computer enthusiasts like to think they're slightly above game consoles 😄
No, they like to call things what they actually are. That's why I don't call a Tomato an Apple.

I swear his wife should have slapped him for wasting holiday money on a SECOND AMIGA
CAPATIN PLANET AND CANNON FODDER LIVE STREAM?
Yes, and then people got a PC console, maybe an Apple Mac console.
I almost bought a Commodore 64 for the same reason👍
Wow!!!!
NICE SOCKS
The video title is rage enducing
What is that strange sticker on your TV for? It says BLM btw... Is it a code for a prize giveaway?? 😻🎁😻
Pathetic virtue signalling in the background...unsubbed
Bye.
pathetic comment
Agreed.
amazing video
