Thanks for watching! I'll look forward to seeing your build too as another MB owner.

Its good to see someone super detailing this kit. I built it a couple of months ago and have also done some restoration work on a full size Jeep so I was rather disappointed with the fully boxed kit chassis. I did what you have done. I also detailed the spring hangers using wire as the kit has a rather solid moulding to hold the springs. The universal joints on the driveshafts can also be detailed. I dropped my model whilst building it and both axles broke at the diffs. If I was doing it again I would epoxy a bit of 1/8th dia wire in the axles before gluing the halves together. The most irritating thing I found was that the bonnet/hood does not have a working hinge. I made a working hinge from some wire and the metal tube from the Revell Contactor cement. It works well and was easy to make.

A 1/16th scale Jeep has been a long time coming for many of us, and I think those of us who have been waiting were always going to want more from the kit. I owned an MB for a few years (still got a spare grill and hood in our shed) and so I am similarly motivated to go a bit further. It's also just fun to do and once upon a time we used to make models because it is fun.
I've got some hard brass wire destined for the spring hangers. Wiring and brake lines are also much easier to do with the chassis rails set up as they should be. The wiring grommets on the bulkhead also cry out for some basic wiring looms, and let's face it the Jeep wiring is pretty basic!
I think for my next video I'll do a review of M2s included in various 1/16th scale kits. The M2 included with the Takom Jeep isn't perhaps quite as bad as Tamiya's original RC offering, but it's not a huge leap forward either. The second issue of Tamiya's M2 included in the 'full option' Shermans and the Pershing is still the gold standard IMHO.

@@contributor7219 I think you and I are pretty well aligned on this kit. It is a very good kit. I also added wiring, plug leads, brake lines and fuel lines. Even for someone who hasn't worked on or owned a Jeep there are so many videos on YT that it is possible to get very detailed info for modelling.
Whilst it is a very good kit I just feel that an opportunity for a great kit was missed here.

Let’s see more vids on the Jeep, love the work you have done on this so far.
And I agree the Browning in this kit sucks.
That Tamiya version looks amazing. Let’s see some pics of that build.

Hi Ken. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I wasn't intending on doing 'build' series on this channel (which I really must rename!), but rather little tips and tricks in 1/16th scale. There are lots of really great modellers out there doing builds on the Tube and I'm all for trying to add a bit of variety for people who watch. I spent many years working as an engineer on 1/1 scale armour etc, and wanted to translate some of that experience to 1/16th kits as I love the detail that's possible in this big scale. What I'm hoping is that people can take some of my experience on the real stuff and translate it to their own builds. That said, I never thought this video would get 150 views, let alone 1.5K, so if there is enough interest I'm always happy to show more detail work on a particular kit.
Look out for a Browning M2HB special very soon. I plan to do a detailed comparison of the 1/16th Brownings to date - the good, the bad, and the ugly - and why I think Tamiya's M2HB is yet to be beaten 'out of the box'. It's an iconic weapon, one I've spent much time working on and around, including on the range, and rendering it nicely in 1/16th scale should be easy for kit manufacturers - yet as we've seen they can still fall very short.

@@contributor7219 Very much looking forward to seeing that part of the build. I think any videos you put out based on this one will be of great interest. Cheers.

Thanks for watching. It's something anyone with a few basic modelling skills can do, and I think it really makes the most of the kit components.

I'm currently building the kit at the moment... I noticed that the frame wasn't entirely correct after gluing my side rails on... Since I have a second kit, I was going to try and do something like this with the second one. I was really astonished with the level of detail they included in the kit, right down to the T fitting on the rear differential for the brake lines and the brake master cylinder/brake pedal and clutch pedals. For all they've added, they left enough detail out to make super detailers happy. On mine, I've added the battery hold down rods to the side of the battery, the bolt rod along the bottom of the generator, the clutch arm going into the transmission bell housing as well as the brake lines. I plan on adding the Engine Stay Cable as well. If you look at the engine side of the firewall, you can see the terminal blocks and grommets where the wiring harness attach and go through the firewall to the under-dash area. In the driver's compartment side of the firewall they have even included the Filterette, which was installed on jeeps that had radios installed. The only thing you really need to add is the wiring harness and brake lines and a few fittings. Whoever designed this kit really did their research.

This a beautifully done kit and I, like many, have been waiting for a good 1/16th scale Jeep for years. As a kid I grew up watching 'Rat Patrol' with my father, so two are destined to be built to pay homage to that show. The other is heading for a diorama with a couple of other US and one Soviet AFVs. A few extra little touches, like doing the chassis, adding the wiring to the already existing fittings, the battery hold-downs etc as you have done, and these are going to be stunners. A 1/16th scale Jeep was always going to be popular and I suspect Takom will sell a lot of these! I'm surprised to see over 400 views on this video at the time of writing and I think it speaks to just how popular this kit is going to be.
It's a shame about that .50, though having said that it in no way stopped me buying the kit. The .50 looks so basic only because the rest of the kit is so good. I suspect carefully cutting the barrel from the forward barrel bearing/shroud before drilling the bearing/shroud out, then refitting the forward barrel with a newly fabricated rear section to provide the air-gap, would improve it a thousandfold. I'll fit Tamiya .50s to mine, then play with the Takom .50s for another project - that's what the spares box is for after all!
      Enjoy your build!

I think there is an after market machined metal M2 for this kit.

I'm happy to be sent a link and proved wrong, but I think you may be referring to the Aber detail set for the 50Cal that has been kicking around for a while now. The Aber set includes a machined barrel and barrel shroud/front barrel bearing assembly as well as some photo etch. I think Andy's HHQ has 'rereleased' the Aber set to use on the Jeep and the Sherman kits. There are also a number of aftermarket 3D printed and cast resin complete 50Cal kits.
The point I was making in the video is that it has been more than 20 years since Tamiya released that 50Cal, and it still has a level of detail that puts far newer kits to shame. Whilst there is always a balancing act between detail level and kit cost, I really think Takom needed to lift their game with the included M2HB so that modellers don't have to buy additional details for a part of the kit that is so prominently displayed when completed.

It’s the way to go. I’ve got a small stash of them I intend to use as well. It would be super-nice if Tamiya re-released it as a standalone kit though.
