Pran, Since you love coffee so much, may I suggest you invest in a good coffee grinder, a good quality coffee maker of some sort and filtered water. I don’t know if the Zero Water filter and Pitcher are available in Canada, but I have used the system for years in the US. Then get your freshly roasted beans from a coffee roaster in Halifax. Or learn to roast your own green beans. Always having great coffee at home is fabulous. Buy a thermos and you can take it with you on your travels. Looking forward to the day when we retire, leave south Florida and return to my spouse’s home town of Halifax😁
I know at least two married couples who take in a roommate to help pay the rent. If someone owns a condo they could take someone in as well. Just a thought to save money. I am enjoying your videos, Pran. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for this video. I think I was romanticizing Halifax as being an affordable place compared to GTA / Toronto, but 2100$ for a 3br, 210$/m car insurance, (and I guess tax) is sort of as ridiculous as Ontario imo. Great videos. I know I have to leave GTA after 11 years because I can't see a future for myself, afford a home, or check basic boxes, but I'll have to watch more of your videos before I decide. I need to go to visit family in India from time to time, so going to Calgary / Alberta makes things more difficult even tho it's a great province. I appreciate how objective and candid you are. For a 24-25 year old, you're bright, and will go places Pran.
Halifax cost of living has gone through the roof in the past few years. It was bad enough years ago when companies came in and bought up all the apartment buildings and jacked the rent up before selling them to another company which did the same. Because of that, a lot of people already could barely afford rent. Since the condo developers came in, rent went up a lot more and housing prices and food costs. Now, people aren't just barely able to pay rent, it's either pay rent or buy food and end up homeless. The government would rather make a quick buck from selling land to condo developers and pulling in taxes, they do not care in the least about the well being of the people or what the people want.
I live in Northend Halifax. It is getting very expensive but a great spot to live. I greatly enjoyed your video, Pran, and downtown is a great spot too. A++++
You can try car sharing, if you do not drive much! Don’t have to worry about insurance and they pay the gas, and no worries with car repair expenses. You’ll want to sell your car when you see your savings 😊 using car sharing.
Lol no tbh I forgot about it at first coz I was so busy filming but as I was walking away and reviewing the footage on my camera, I realized I didn’t pick up the cup. I had to go back but it was still in my line of sight so no biggie haha

Interesting - relating some of this info to people of your age. As for the car insurance you really need to shop around for a better deal, it does take some time but that seems high for the few details you gave. Overall a good estimate as you said you need some of the more extra costs for what you do. It all depends on what is important to you and what you might want to cut back on in the end but def know the cost of things.
In my opinion, the public transportation isn’t worth relying on at all in winter! Although car sharing would be a better option! I’m making a full video about that so you’ll find out how it works!
That's a Rich Kid budget. On the other hand, at least people will be informed of up to how much they can expect (spend). Unlike others who's promising that the cost of living there is cheap and once someone arrived there will get shocked of how small amount of money they have in their pocket. Nice content.
Hahaha I’m far from a rich kid but my expenses are definitely pretty high compared to an average Halifax resident! But as you said, my goal with this video was to draw a clear picture of what a comfortable lifestyle costs in this city :)
Cost of living low, but property taxes are incredibly high. Sales tax is 15% HST as it's Nova Scotia. Can't speak to jobs, as I've away, but I hope it's better than it was when I moved. Public Transportation isn't great. It's expensive for the service they provide.

I know it’s pretty crazy lol. There is an option to pay for the whole year but I don’t think it gets you a discount. Definitely still worth checking with your insurance company about the discount though
