Lol so many people have trouble understanding the X6M.
It's literally supposed to be a COUPE suv, in other words it's like an M6 but bigger with the functionality of an SUV while trying its best to keep a sporty look. This is a very rapidly growing segment and the x6 has done amazingly well, better than BMW thought it would. The reason is because people (mainly in countries with 4 seasons) love having an AWD vehicle that can plow through winter, fit kids in the back/other passengers & have trunk space while still performing like a proper sports car. Most importantly, being higher up brings on much more comfort in my opinion both for safety, visibility & driving in general. They start pretty expensive even for a basic x6, the x6m can run you similar price to a base 911 which is a very proper sports car, but again if you have a family and are driving 4 seasons a car like the X6M is just all around better.
I just traded my 2016 911 black edition for an x6m after only owning the 911 for less than a year now & I can tell you exactly why. I was trading out of a Panamera GTS (my 3yr lease was up) & Porsche salesman did a good job convincing me that a 911 would be a great everyday car. Well, he was wrong in my opinion. It's a good daily driver if you don't do a lot of driving & you dont mind uncomfortable seats and a tight cabin. It's still a sports car and rides very rough especially in city over potholes/road imperfections of any type.
This is where the X6M came in and literally hit my perfect next car criteria right on the nose. I don't track drive, so the x6m's performance literally didn't have me missing the 911 at all, while also being incredibly comfortable, with all the luxury features of an SUV. Of all the cars I've owned, it's probably the best car & I've been through countless vehicles from Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche & Maserati (Ghibli, traded it in for Panamera after only a year).
In terms of comparing the X6M to other performance/high end luxury SUVS. WEll, I test drove a G550 from Mercedes and felt it was too overpriced, I test drove the GLE63S and it felt a lot heavier and less sporty than the x6m. I drove the Cayenne Turbo S but I wanted a change from Porsche + the X6M outperforms it and it costs $60,000 Canadian more than the X6M (starting price) and Porsche is king at charging you through the teeth for the most basic of options that you want so it could've easily got a heck of a lot more expensive. I had a horrendous experience with my Ghibli, so I didn't bother with the Levante because interior/exterior quality looked exactly like my Ghibli which was terribly cheap & unreliable. Lexus/Audi were never options, I feel like they don't offer much in this category & are a step under BMW/MERC/Porsche.
Overall, BMW did an amazing job on the X6M and dominate a category that is growing in demand - 10/10.

Thank you for your comment. You touched so many points I had doubts about and have almost identically the same taste in cars. From the Ghibli to the Porsche, going through BMW, Merc and Audi. All these cars I really do like but don’t want to spend a lot of money and regret. I’m currently driving a BMW X6 Xdrive50i which is right behind the X6M and want to upgrade to a X6M. I test drove that X6M and man what a difference (mostly in terms of power). Overall the comfort, and everything else is I’d say identical and to be honest I really do enjoy driving the X6 and believe I finally found the car that best suits me. Also, love the attention and respect it gets on the road.
X6M is the way to go, man.

It's crazy how a much heavier, slightly more powerful BMW can accelerate Almost as fast as a Tuned Ferrari 458.
Might have something to do with the 4 wheel drive.

There is no better sounding V8 then the 458. The US has the most V8 engines but none of them sounds as good than that 458 unless your into rumbling engine noise.
The difference for me is I can listen to the 458 like music where as the rumbling noise would give me an headache on a long drive.

the Ferrari sounded lovely and that's all that matters, the BMW was way to quiet.

TeknOxSniper There are 4 known cars in the US, one is driven really regularly (a CCXR in Long Island) and there's an Agera that has appeared a few times in the last month around LA. There's another CCXR in the showroom at Prestige in Miami, and another that is correctly in a private garage in Florida. But I'm afraid no Koeniseggs at this event.

And your definition of a petrolhead is too one-sided. Maybe you're more dedicated to your car, but are you telling us that you're a better kind of petrolhead because you get "dirty"? We're all united for the love of cars and the passion they inspire us. Don't be an asshole.
Being a petrolhead also involves loving cars, engines, sounds etc not just repairing/upgrading and driving on the limit is more thrillseeking. If you can't enjoy driving a supercar slowly you aren't a petrolhead in my opinion.

Lino Wathy If the 458 went zero to 60 in 6 seconds it still would be more fun than the X6 M because of the low center of gravity, excellent and lightning quick steering response and just more engagement. Driving a X6 M right after driving a 458 would be like driving a boat, a fast boat but still a boat. That is why cars like the BRZ or low powered Lotus are so desirable. Even if they aren't rocket ships, it's the connection to the road that makes them fun.
