I genuinely dislike the vibes I get off of the people working in the store. And yeah the disrespect put on her house… like it’s one thing to share the culture behind her magic, and teach it and offer a practitioners service, but to profit off of it, and not actually teach anything about it is just disrespectful to me, and this is one of the many reasons why people go around spreading nonsense on apps like tik toc about witch craft.
I was just at the shop and as soon as I walked in, I felt the energy of the place. It made me feel as if I needed to be really careful about my thoughts and feelings.
Hi my wife use to visit this shop when she was a child a lot if great memories...i see the changes that have been over time... I was wandering what happened to the shops sitting area and the curtain for whorship in the back.. Madam mamba and her daughters went. We use to be close. My wife left L.A. in 2000.
I was thinking the same thing. I visited this place in the early 90's a few times when I lived in Mississippi. We used to come to the quarter every so often. Now it reminds me of a roadside shell store in Florida. No authenticity. Just cheap trinkets for cash.
you need to get your info on voodoo correct as well. the origins voodoo, Is from African vodou, and ife, originally from Benin, Senegal, Nigeria, basically the western part of Africa. and I stand by the fact that Catholism was a cover for voodoo, and nothing more. in African vodou, there are no Christian elements, or motifs, because there were no need for them in AFRICA.

Haven't been there in years but it looks all commercialize now. there used to be a for sure enough alter to the left when you walk in. Looks like it's changed for the worst.... Nothing but a tourist trap now it used to be the real thing
I bought a voodoo doll, and a necklace that apparently had a love spell on it, and they were beautiful! They disappeared out of my purse within five minutes. Very confusing and sad but in all honor of Marie Laveau.. Love that place so much.
Went to the same store. I bought a Pomba Gira statue from them because I have not ever seen one out here. I meant to get a doll from them like you did but I got a voodoo doll else where. It was a great visit. I look forward to visiting again some time. Hopefully sooner than later. 😁
Not to be PC, but why is there a non-African guy running it? Voodoo/Vodun is ancestral (lwa). It doesn't make sense. It's also being commercialized. Many items have to be made by practitioners with some status.
I plan on visiting N.O. soon. Looking forward to going to Haus of Hoodoo as its Black owned, operated, and legit. I do want to visit Mme. Laveau's but I'd feel weird buying such items from colonizers. Looking forward seeing (feeling, rather) what vibe I get when I visit.
Looks like the store to me. Mind you, I haven't been since, goodness, 2009, so it may have changed a lot since then (though between 1998 and 2009, it didn't change much).
I can't believe he took ur credit card and took his pen over a piece of paper to get the impression on the credit card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I own 2 stores and U can't do that!!!!! Thats stealing his info.
that would pertain to any store policy, secular, or religious. but this store disrespects true voodoo and hoodoo, because they come off as though their apart of the culture, when in reality their just vultures trying to make a dollar.
I noticed the basket of chicken feet. I collect those but they are longer than the ones here appear to be and they are not painted. I don't practice I just like the way they look and collect them. You can find them on etsy
I went here in the early 90's and this looks so different. They had stuff, but not like this. There used to be a curtain at the back for ceremonies I guess. This reminds me of a shell store onnthe side of the highways in Florida. Just crap everywhere. Its like a wiccan hippie teamed up with Spencers. Definitely not the same.
I just re-watched it I think I misunderstood... I guess the dude around 2:18 said 78' when you asked how long the store has been around. So, if they're only $25 then I'll get one too when I'm there in a few more weeks. :D I'm very excited. I can't wait to be there. :D

Lol if only that place was legit then i would've acted accordingly. That place made a mockery of that religion and was all about making money and being a culture vulture.
My Great grandma was a practitioner, and yes I study it and know it well, the problem is, white people try and add Wicca type tradition to hoodoo, in hoodoo, there is no temple because hoodoo is not a religion like voodoo, it a magical practice . White people get the two hoodoo and voodoo crossed. many hoodoo practitioners were Christians. so the church was there temple, and the bible was there conjure book. the Psalms in particular was the scriptures of choice. Hoodoo was American made magical system by slaves who didn't have time for ritual, so much of it is base on charm work, and quick spells. I know what hoodoo is about, but do you, it's part of my culture. hoodoo is the African American experience, and noone outside of that experience can really relate. so don't question me on what I know, the question is what do you know?
voodoo was practiced in your ancestral house. because it was most of the times family oriented. And yes there were temples elsewhere, but not in a place of business. how disrespectful is that to the spirits, a place of worship should be dedicated to the house of the spirits and to them alone, you have to have room to dance, to create veves, and play the Drums. A temporary temple can be out in the open, on a beach when consulting yemeya eg. do not cross your temple with your place of business. I view that as disrespectful to the Loas.
Ms Iam Everythang I saw it. It pisses me the fuck off. Balhomet has nothing to do with voodoo. I'm a French Creole with this practice in my bloodline so when I see people mixing shit with my heritage that doesn't belong there it's offensive. They can get the fuck out of here with that shit and respect Marie Levaux and her legacy
@@theunseen3 I agree. Any religious mishmashing and commercialization is just disrespectful to those who practice. I'm not even religious and I can respect others' beliefs enough to know that.
You only read what my reply was, my reply was to a person who’s grandmother was a practitioner. For your information Voodoo is comprised of three cultures beliefs, African religion of Hudoo, some Native American as well as catholic Catholicism. So don’t judge somebody because you will be judged yourself.
That store looked like they had a Mogwai for sale in the back.
lmao!
i guess I'm quite off topic but do anybody know a good website to watch new series online ?
@Maximilian Tommy Flixportal xD
@Felipe Jaxen thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) Appreciate it!!
@Maximilian Tommy Glad I could help xD
Laveau deserves better than this 😔
Such a powerful woman's memory being used to make a profit.
She'd've loved it (if she were getting a cut of the profits).
Daypsie Quartz EXACTLY! I’m sure she had a plan for those the😈
@@bbhalocapricorn2321 no you are both wrong. SHE commercialized voodoo. Read a book once in a while.

brandon moffett lol
looks like tourist trap
looks like a rats nest
Michael Winemiller I've been there before and the stuff is kinda high-priced but very cool. It really smelled like weed too 😂
Of course it's a tourist trap, just like so much in the French Quarter in the last 50 years.

Exactly
Why?
Here we have a junk shop filled with negative vibes. XXX I Bind this foolery

Marie deserves more than people turning her house into shop just to get money from her! that just aint right
Too much stuff. It is very garish, doesn't feel authentic. I get a very commercial vibe.
Have you ever been to an authentic botanica? This place is spacious by comparison.
I went there in 2003 and it wasn't like this... And used to be the real deal
Magic shops near and far seem to all have the same vibe...❤ Don't hate, appreciate bruh
Well it IS a business. Most people don't practice voodoo so of course they have to have to make it commercial to keep it going.
Security: "You cant record in here"
Man: "Ok" ... then makes an 11 minute video!!! lmao 😂

Turning the camera back shows disrespect to the store because they considered it a temple as well as a store.
