Modern Era of Humans (based off of superficiality) really need to stop utilizing abstractions, that's made to nitpick & appeal to stone (fallacy) of how a certain piece of medium compromises a higher set of perceived standards, that gets determined in its absolute form of truth, to what it should & shouldn't be as; such as how 'edgy' is just an arbitrary 'form of criticism' to which it connotates to a lack thereof 'media literacy' or just lack of independent critical/analytical thinking & an outlook onto different perspectives; all this does is further exemplify an indoctrinated polarization, that's based off of the cognitive perception of individuals, within groups & manifests itself through, or into a social contagion to polarize against any form of 'subject' that is against those set of standards...

Homelander wasn't evil Superman, Noir was. The point of comic homelander was to show how boring it would be for a regular guy to have Superman's powers. He wasn't truly evil, but he was a narcissistic douche. He basically gaslighted himself into becoming evil because he thought his true "godlike" self was leaking out. Noir was created to be the countermeasure for homelander going evil, but he never did... so Noir did shit himself so he could finally merc and replace homelander.
Also, the comic didn't end with homelander and his coup because butcher was the big bad.
Edit: Basically Homelander was never special. He still felt somewhat ordinary and human despite being raised to see himself as a god. Even with his heel turn, he couldn't reach the same level of depravity his clone did. He was just human, and he knew it. He wasn't the god he was raised to believe but just another human. All in all, a pretty cool subversion of the evil Superman trope.

Well part of what drove Homelander crazy was he thought he was blacking out and doing what Noir was doing, because Noir was sending pictures of all his depraved actions to Homelander.
Homelander, partially scared of the consequences if his unforgiveable actions ever came out attempted the coup to avoid retribution for Noir's crimes, thinking he had already done so much that was unforgiveable.
The guy whose doing the video Nux is reacting to really presented the ending disingenuously.

Don't get me wrong. It's poorly written and not foreshadowed at all, but the idea is interesting. What the video left out was that Black Noir was created as a failsafe. A more powerful Homelander that exists just to kill Homelander if he ever goes too far. Of course, considering the shit the other heroes are up to, that makes no sense in the comic. The clone slowly going crazy because he can't do the one thing he was made for and deciding to make Homelander lose his mind, just so he can kill him is a cool idea though. Even if everything surrounding it is trash.

For that to happen, the current Noir would have to go away somehow and then be replaced by a Homelander clone that would also need to be explained. Noir is currently an entirely different character and the same is true for the original Noir that died in the prior seasons. They'd have to also add new scenes where Homelander gets evidence of "himself" doing worse stuff than he already did, crossing even his lines, to set such ending up properly.
At the end of the day, I think it'd just be better to see a new and unexpected ending. Maybe it'll be underwhelming, maybe it'll be genius, but they already changed so much, so why not continue with this new vision to the end?

The thing that makes the "moral argument" not work is that they work with starlight and kimiko. Their problem isn't superpowers, it's corrupt people with superpowers. It's why they only go after the seven.
It's hypocritical of butcher to use V since he hates everyone with powers except Ryan, seemingly a soft spot for kimiko (although he probably just sees her as a weapon), and Maeve that one scene. But it's also hypocritical for mm and Frenchie to have a problem with temp V. MM especially should be more like Hughie considering his history with soldier boy

The comics DO have some nuance tho. Not a ton, its still a blatant power fantasy for the creator, but people don't give them their due credit.
For one, once you look at the Supes as not just as characters, but as *products* of a greedy corporation the story takes on a VERY different feel
Most of the supes in the comics didn't have any special powers. The only thing that spearates them is a different costume. They're not trained or anything, most are just a bunch of incompetent celebrities given powers. Its why the Boys can kill them so easily.
And every bad thing Supes do is ultimately a product of Vought being an incompetent, greedy company that cuts corners wherever they can.
They don't care if their supes are mentally well or good people, they just care that they are *profitable*
And its funny he says that there's no complexity to the comics while showing pages of the G-men, a superhero group made up of people who were consistently SAd as children. Its easily one of the darkest storylines in the comic, mainly because Hughie slowly pieces it together and ties it to why they are all so weird and gross.
The trauma they went through messed them ALL up, making them think that mistreating their own & each other's bodies and ignoring any level of privacy isn't a big deal. It makes the line at 34:10 MUCH more haunting as you realise that these are abuse victims protecting their abuser cause its all they know and because "none of them said no" , even though they were just kids and had no power or choice in the matter.
Hughie even convinces the Boys to go in and stop the cycle of abuse by killing the Xavier wannaby and revealong it to the world, at which point Stillwell shows up with Vought's death squad and MURDERS all the G-men and the abuser. Revealing that they knew what was going on, but let the G-Men do what they wanted as long as it didn't draw too much attention, which it DID. So they went scorched earth. And The Boys, being able to do absolutely nothing, are forced to walk away
The show is better overall, but the comics have their moments in portraying a world basically ran by an EVIL company who sees human life as an expendable commodity at best and a nuisance that needs to be eliminated to preserve the bottom line at worst.

He abridged the finale A LOT to the point where skipped some serious context:
Homelander being gaslighted into becoming a monster and the reveal that Noir is a stronger clone of him DOES make sense with the theme of the story in the comics.
Homelander thought of himself as a god among men. When in reality, he really wasn't all that special at ally he was just bad product. This extends to the supes that basically got mercd in 5 minutes because they were never THAT strong. They just thought they were because years of having their dirty laundry cleaned up by Vought made them think they were beyond consequences.
And Noir was essentially created to watch Homelander and kill him if he ever went rogue. His one purpose was sitting in front of him for years and he couldn't do anything about it, so he went mad and MADE it happen.
Even the SA of Becca was just another iron in the fire Noir had to push Homelander into thinking he's been doing these terrible things for a long time and to put him in Butcher's sights, leading to Homelander constantly being under pressure from the FBI watching him, making it all the more likely that he would snap and Vought would give the kill order
As for Butcher deciding to kill all the Boys and commit genocide, that's another aspect that's built up over time. Multiple characters point out that Butcher's hatred for Supes goes beyond any sense of morality. Even the FBI was lowkey scared of him and basically used him as a rabid dog they pointed in the right direction. After Butcher finishes off Noir, who was sverely hurt after his fight with Homelander and the military peppering him with everything they had, Butcher realises that the only way to end the cycle was to *destroy* Compound V and everything it touched, which includes a LOT of innocent people
He kills the boys 1 by 1 because he knew they would be the only ones who could stop him.
He even distracts Hughie instead of killing him because Butcher couldn't bring himself to do it.
In the end, Butcher tricks Hughie into thinking he killed his parent, prompting Hughie to kill him and ending his plan before it went too far.
In the end, while Hughie and Annie love happily ever after, we see that Butcher was *somewhat* right as Vought simply rebrandes itself and started the business all over again, much to Stillwell's dismay

This guy really undersold what exactly Black Noir did to Homelander in the comics. He went out and committed the most horrible atrocities in Homelander's costume, taking pictures of it and sending them anonymously to both Homelander as well as The Boys. In fact the Homelander that assaulted Billy's wife was actually Black Noir, who sent pictures of the assault to both Billy and Homelander.
From Homelander's perspective he was receiving perfect, unedited photos and films that showed him doing the most evil atrocious shit. Even that "Superman but he eats babies" line is based off of what Black Noir did as Homelander to fuck with him and make him think he was going mad.
Homelander was gaslit and manipulated into a psychotic episode where he was unable to properly observe reality.
The comic explanation is honestly way fucking better, cause Homelander was led to thinking he was blacking out, committing these horrible atrocities he would never be forgiven for (cause he couldn't forgive himself for them) and that put him on his path to try and dominate the world to avoid possibly paying consequences for actions he was tricked into thinking he did.

I feel like Nux should watch “The Boys Comic is Kinda Great” by Just Stop. It’s a 40 min video and a complete refutation of this video.
Edit: Let me be clear by what I mean “refute”. Just Stop lays out how the comic was not actually a mindless self jerking work of a spiteful man, instead he shows how the author wrote everything with intent and forward sight. The themes are not just “superheros bad”, but instead shows how the path to vengeance is a lifeless one, the evil of corporations, and the complexity of life in a superhero world. To call Garth Ennis an “edgy teen” is a misnomer and a complete misreading of his comics.

there's a reason why Seth Rogan, Eric speak highly of The Boys comic & therefore don't want to believe, that they can make a better take on The Boys against the comic, since the General Consensus surrounding the show in comparison to the comic is how 'much much better the show is & how it handles for what it was going for'... this General Consensus is just pure a indoctrinated & a polarized incoherent mess.

The Boys comic is more than an edgy power fantasy and actually has a lot to say. In matter of fact I found a video that is in response to this video "The Boys Comic is Kinda Great!" by Just Stop.
Honestly, I hope people wouldn't watch these videos without reading the comics first and having their own thoughts about it.
But, videos like these just prevent people from reading a good and interesting story. Though, I will admit, there are edgy for edginess sakes in the comic, but not to the degree this video let on.

Yeah I noticed how bad the deconstruct was with how disingenuously he did Homelanders death and Noir's reveal.
It's imo a pretty powerful moment to realize that someone who was actually a fairly decent person was driven to that level of darkness and evil not because of his power but because he was presented, with seemingly irrefutable evidence that he was blacking out and doing heinous evil shit.
Like Homelander at the end of the boys is recontextualized from being a villain to being a tragic victim of an actual psychopaths plot to drive him crazy and ruin him.
And that EVERY SINGLE THING he brings up in this video and says Homelander did it like: "Superman, but he eats babies" the baby eating was done BY BLACK NOIR.
It recontextualizes even Billy's entire conflict with Homelander cause you find out the personal vendetta Billy has against Homelander was for something Black Noir did in disguise.
It even makes Billy pity Homelander and it makes Homelander FEEL BAD FOR BILLY
They get a beautiful moment realizing that they spent so long as enemies when they were victimized by the same puppet master inflicting and playing with their traumas.

23:55 the comic uses it to expand character and themes, in the same the way the show does, which that show has more to those actions that just "How far are they gone" it also examplifying them as people, Homelander crushing a homeless man's skull while hitting the sex style is an addition to add to his and his partner's character of Arrogance served to add to the greater theme.
Homelander in the comics being disgusted of things he doesn't remember doing completely disregards this, as if he was really just a sciopath and nothing else why would he feel a human emotion? for purpose was the Psychoptic capatalist head of Vaut so apathetic, surely he'd be written the same way as "Psychopath" characters, yet he's made to best represent what the story critizes.

@@godzillazfrictionI may actuallt have gotten that wrong, sciopathy and Psychopathy can feel emotion.
What Homelnader wanted to be a is a monster people care about, he wanted feel important superior, A GOD.
But because he is only human aswell, he became incompetent, arrogant and caring enough to know what those images showed were wrong.
Which is strage for a called "god" to care about mortal lives, he says it so himself, he's confused on why he's repulsed by it.
The entire point about it him doing that is that he is pathetic, thats the point he's just another asshole trying to act better than everyone else and gets what he deserved reality check, with his "Father" who basically abondened him day 1 despite still being there.
Explaning it's because Homelander is doing what anyone edglord would do, he's limted by the human thinking and acts like that not case, so ofcourse He's dissapointed Homelander isn't strong enough to not need other people's apporval especially his.
He's just another shomoe trying to be the next hitler and he failed horribly.

Him having stadards despite what is said would go against The Boys comic being One Dimensional, not even just that many of the antogisnt and even protaganist mean more than just some power fantasy, Butch, the main guy who is treated to this lens is treated as the maniac he's become, so fueled to hate Supers he hurts innocent ones because he's so addicted to it, it's become his second nature and thats is treated with the Predujice it derserves by his own team, his best friend.

In his quest for the peak of entertainment, there was collateral damage. People that had to be paid off. Sufferings that had to be swept under the rug. It breaks my heart so much to know that it's Mr Beast that I'm talking about as I say this...

Thing about Garth Ennis is that he'll stumble into an amazing concept with such a deep possibility for storytelling... and then claim that having a character stab a dolphin to fuck the wound is the pinnacle of though provoking narratives
Nux straight up came up with a better idea )in the sense of hit-pieces about fictional characters) than anything Ennis has ever done.
Ennis made a story about an infection that removes the mental inhibitions stopping you from doing the thing you desire most, and used it as the backdrop for what may as well just be even more torture porn. A person becoming Crossed and going out on a motorcycle with a shotgun to blow the brains out of every police officer or city official? Nah, have 4 random people dismember a child while raping the parents and making them watch.
Ennis doesn't even do "edge for the sake of edge" he makes over-the-top edgy BS and claims it's the best thing ever written

The fact that they removed Black Noir is the reason I dislike the series (and also the person they got to play Hughie). The Homelander was gaslit into believing that he had a "evil side" that was doing things without his knowledge, and goes insane because of it.

17:13 for me one of the most dissapointing, the original Webcomic Did Storytelling SO much better, while the Manga has Demon Slayer issue of relying too much on animation make up for what people are actually here for: story, they want to be invested in a story not see cool action scenes they could from other areas.
those things are servings for the story not the otherway around and one Punch man manga and most likely the Anime Completely Forgot what the series is trying to be resutling alot of scaling without little meaning.
which is why I wanna make a hand in making a semi parody series based on a defenctive clone of Saitama, that actually leans into what the webcomic was going for, One Weak Man it would be concept name as it revolves about apprecaiting the little things and how those supposed "little" things are way bigger than one can imagine.(like I have the goal to convince you to be tear eyed over some weird looking guy lifting his finger)

The boys only kill so many supers in the comic because they literally also become permanent supers to fight back.
The show does right by having the ones killed not only be few and far between and with some workarounds or literally requiring another super to help, but also points out the hypocrisy in season 3 of actively choosing a debatably dangerous method to even the playing field versus the already existing Supers on their side that, both didnt know about V being the reason they were even Super, and didnt have a choice.
It also makes a great point about those temporary powers making them become more violent and corruptible like the people they're trying to hunt and stop which further proves the point of the characters calling them hypocrites for sinking that low just for a win.
