I respect your opinions but I can not buy into your claims. I have this exact crossbow and I shoot the quill with a 100 grain Swacker. I have got a complete pass through with that set up every deer I have killed. In fact with the same arrow set up I killed a black bear at 24 yards with a complete pass through and it was down in 35 yards. Again, I respect your opinion but you’re missing out on shooting a great crossbow.

Yee Haw, I always like seeing different perspectives on an item even though I don’t agree with much of what you said.
The Excalibur Banshee, 308 Short, Grizzly and Griz2 all shoot about the same speed and they are fantastic deer hunting crossbows within ethical hunting distances.
With the recommend 350 grain it’s a complete pass through every time as long as your shot placement is good. With 400 or more grain set ups it’s just as good and possibly a little better.
BY the way, the 308 Short and Banshee are probably the two most sought after Excaliburs and there is a reason for that.

Excal Ibex (175 lb pull without a cocker) with 265 grain 20 inch firebolts and 150 grain head gets 290 fps with a 415 grain total projectile. Pass-throughs on all quartering towards shoulder shots on big northern deer. Original Excaliburs are key. Groups these bolts 5 shots into a clementine at 50 yds.

Man I sure am glad I bought this 308 Short from you. Major tack driver like you showed in your other video on it. And what I've done is replace all the Quill front aluminum inserts with 110gr brass inserts. So now with my 100gr Innerloc Carnage broadheads I'm shooting 425gr total weight still plenty fast and punching bullseyes every shot.
Really looking forward to getting full pass throughs on deer with it this fall!
Yeehaw don't let this one experience put you permanently off of Excalibur. You can buy an Axe/Mag 340 from Wyvern Creations, get their heavier arrow upgrade, and you'll still be shooting faster than your 308 did with the light arrows. And you'll pay less than you did originally for the 308 Short.
Tons of guys like Andy Hite have proven the 308 Short is DEFINITELY good for deer. And never believe when a manufacturer says you have to use their arrows. There are so many heavier with better FOC options out there. Or replace inserts like I did with your old arrows.

Hey there bubba. I'm glad your enjoying it. Yeah I had called Excalibur n they said they didn't sell inscerts for it so that's why I felt stuck with it. But if they come out with a compact one and one that doesn't shoot anything shorter then a 20inch bolt and it weights 300gr then I may consider another one but want shoot n e thing with what short bolts n e more.. I'm happy your enjoying it bubba..

@@yeehaw2720 Excalibur is never going to go away from the 16.5" arrows. That's what all their new for 2020 models shoot. I definitely wouldn't let that stop you from considering them though. 3.5" of shaft only contributes to about 25 grains.
And just cause Excalibur doesn't sell heavier inserts doesn't mean you don't have easy ways to get 16.5" arrows that are even heavier than most 20" arrows. There are tons of affordable options. Wyvern Creations, Borkholder Archery, South Shore Archery, heck even your local archery shop can build you 16.5" arrows that'll weigh well over 400 grains with a 100 grain broadhead. Or do like I did and buy heavy inserts on Amazon.
The 16.5" arrows that Excalibur micro's shoot are literally a non-issue. Actually if you have 2 arrows the same total weight, one being 16.5" and the other being 22", the 16.5" is actually more likely to get a clean pass through because it has less shaft length to drag through the animal and the same amount of kinetic energy. A 16.5" arrow also has less flex for the same shaft diameters.

That's easy. Ask a dealer. Ask a forum. Ask an experienced friend. Online research and all other sorts of info online tells us that Excalibur factory arrows use 0.300" Lumenoks. Meaning arrow inner diameter also takes 0.300" inserts. The places and info out there are limitless to be able to get to whatever end result you want.

Here's your old Banshee getting complete pass through at 27 yds. 100gr mechanical with with the factory Quills, simply replaced the front inserts with 110gr brass inserts for a total of 425gr including Lumenoks.
Don't write off Excalibur because of your experience, yeehaw. You really should give them a try again. Get a Mag 340 from Wyvern Creations with their Dragon Claw arrow upgrade and you'll be getting exactly what you said you wished you could have got when you made this video.

Definitely worth working up some arrows in the 450-500 grains total area. It hits harder, flies more accurately (despite the arc), makes it more quiet (not that the Banshee needs to me more quiet), and the heavier arrow will absorb more of the shock and thusly be easier on your limbs.

Hey bro! Check out Death by Bunjie. He uses a 305FPS Excalibur Axiom and he always gets pass throughs that he’s been hunting with since 2010. He uses a 18” and have used mechanical and fixed blade broad heads. I have a 2019 Excalibur Bulldog 440 and I always get pass throughs with a 350GN’s bolts. I think you should watch Death by Bunjie because he’ll show you that you can get a pass through with his Excalibur.
I would never use a Barnett anything. They have crappy crossbow’s and their strings fray too easily. I sold my Barnett on eBay and bought the Excalibur Bulldog 440.

I don't know what your problem is but as you know with any bow you have to experiment with different arrow and broadhead combinations to get the best performance. You can't just try one or two and say this sucks maybe you have been lucky in the past but that don't happen often. Just my advice take it or leave it.

Seems to me everybody shooting mechanicals are always complaining about “Pass-Throughs”. Add more weight, put in brass inserts, zombie this, swacker that…yadda, yadda, yadda. I shoot an Excalibur Micro 335 with factory quills and factory “fixed” 100 grain broadheads. Shot a buck in each of the past 2 years, pass thru on both. Both deer dropped within 40 yards. “Need a mechanical for a blood trail”- Not true. A double lung with a fixed blade and you will slip and slide on blood. Sounds to me like you are just looking for problems.

  • @boots_4_me

I watch your video again and I think you should’ve gotten you an Axe/Mag 340. 308Short is not going to give you a pass through with a 150gn bh and a 250gn bolt. If you had a higher speed crossbow it would surely get you a pass through. You can get the MAG340 for $749.99 so it cost less than the banchee. There’s always going to be fixed or mechanical bh that works well with a crossbow. The bolt cutters are good and shoots accurate and I’ve also shot 350gn 16.5” bolts and gotten a pass through with both bolt cutters and rage bh’s.

Holy smokes, don't restrict yourself into such a tight box. If you don't like the Quill's, then get some heavier bolts, shoot whatever 100 gr mechanicals you want, and still have total weight above 400 gr. Don't just typecast a whole bow as no good for deer just cause you don't like the bolts it come with. Wyvern sells a kit with their bolts and not Quills.
Right here, 16.5" bolts that will weigh 400 grain with whatever 100 grain mechanical broadhead you choose. www.wyverncreations.com/finished-arrows-c-82/custom-premium-excalibur-arrows-p-946.html

We had hogs move in on our property and the coyotes have gotten pretty bad in our area too. So with both of those we think that’s pushed our deer out. We killed 25 deer of our land last season and this year we have only killed 10. Good luck with the fishing and if you make it to the woods this last few days of deer season good luck. I’m fixin to head to the woods here in about and hour. We have rain moving in tonight so this is probably gonna be my last hunt. @@yeehaw2720 no I'm sure they are expandables, the bolt cutter by excalibur is the fixed blade and as far as your arrows or some call them bolts, look up south shore archery and give Jerry a call. He costom builds black eagle executioners or the spinal taps tell him whatcha got and he'll build it to your spec's. Just trying to look out for ya, hate to see you lay down your excalibur just for that I love mine!
