Interesting to see a different approach to my own! I have a 650L 2.1 meter above ground tank that has around 300 or so litres usable by gravity. How has your system been performing? We've saved almost 18,000 litres in three years. With a pump I'd certainly be able to save more but I need one that attaches to a BSP thread.
Thank you for your comment. Been using the system since mid October 23. All working well. I use a few filters to keep any bits and pieces out of the system, had no trouble with anything really. Could have done with a larger tank. but only have a small garden area so went for the 1500L. Have since fitted a 800L surface water butt to catch water from a different roof area, which I can use to top up the underground tank by gravity if necessary. My underground tank has a Hydroforce pump which also as a filter on it.Pumps water at 3.5 bar. Only works when toilet is flushed. Not had a water bill for a full 6 month period yet to see how it's doing, but I reckon we are using around 500Lof rainwater per week. Never had to use the mains back up box yet,but it has been a high rainfall year so far.
Hi Paul, Thank you for your question. Every system will have a different cost depending on your own setup and tank size. I did extra stuff which you don't have to do on a basic system.[eg External filters in water butts] Basic 1500 litre tank with internal filter and pump around £2400.00. Back up box and tank level sensor price depends on where you buy it from around £350.00 to £500.00. On top of that you have the following costs. 2 Skips for waste from excavation. Hire of digger. Lots of 110mm drainage pipes. Gutter brushes. Shingle, Soakaway crates,Labour cost of Builder, Electricion [Part P certificate required] Plumber and internal pipework. Cost of Building Control Inspector.[ You will get a completion certificate when job done to uk specs]. All this plus VAT. On a 1500 litre tank system, costing for a job like this would be in the region of £6k. I kept the cost down by acting has labourer for the builder.[I filled the skips with the spoil]. The size of your family and the roof size of your property will dictate the size of Tank required. Bigger tank= more digging=more skips=more expense. I now know all the issues with doing a system like this. so if you need any more advice just ask! Rgards Mike.

Intriguing system. What sort of cost is the system (excluding the hire of the Bobcat)?
