Thank you for the great tip about sizing. I'm a l/xl and I was shopping/ thrifting just the other day at a thrift store in my community and I saw a beautiful dress/tunic in a 2x from "free people" (which as you know can be very pricey). So I bought it and will wear it belted as a dress or over a pair of white jeans with a pair of heels. I got the dress/tunic for $7.99 -25% on sale. When I went on live to see if I could find the dress on line, I found one very close for $169.00! Thanks again for the tip.
Also, if you are altering garments yourself for yourself, you can use curved safety pins instead of straight pins. Makes it a lot easier because you can take the garment on and off (even a few times) without worrying about pins popping out. LOVE your channel.
Those geometric pants you were rocking were EVERYTHING. I would have never guessed they were TOO BIG. I will NEVER pass up on a item that is too big again.... #WOW This was life changing!!!
I used to overlook larger sizes until I started to watch amazing thrifty videos like this, so now when I come across some amazing oversized pieces I know what to do with them!
Your work is great, especially on slippery fabrics which are usually more challenging to work with!! To help ensure symmetry, you may be interested in folding the skirts in half so you're working with half of the back side and half of the front side. That way, you have symmetry from front to back (back is usually a little larger for our hips). Both sides of the back will be equal to the other as well as both sides of the front will be equal to each other and the front will be a little smaller than the back (back is larger to accommodate our hips. If you try this tip or not, you're still fabulous!!
I have been thrifting since I was a kid...we call it 'Goin Junkin'. You gave me a whole new outlook on thrifting as I sew as well. I love the outfits you picked out and how you fit them to fit you. I will be watching more of your videos.
I super appreciated this tutorial. This will change my life in my future thrifting for my wardrobe. Thank you so much for sharing. I am a fan. So glad I found your channel.
Girl this is taking me back to my textiles and apparel undergrad days in that sweatshop!!! Girl you did a great job, especially to be self taught! I need to come to NY to hit up the thrift stores again bc NC does not have what I'm looking for...they NEVER do
I know im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a method to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Reece Aldo I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Years ago I used my moms sewing machine, now that I'm married, I hand saw my skirts and pants. Good advise on that as well as reconstruct thrift purses! Thanks for those advises
Love - love - love your colors today--the lavender is perfect! I buy silk dresses from size 2 to 10... I cut off the top...make elastic waistband. Love silk skirts! Grandma Bunny--not the dumbest blond in Phoenix.
You can turn your sewing pins sideways (so they will be crossed). SO, initially they can be straight when you have the dress on as you are trying to get a true fit, but once you take the dress off and before you sew it put another pin in it in the opposite direction (cross them- they'll look like a lowercase "t")and then remove the straight pins. This way the straight pin wont get caught in the sewing machine track and it will keep both sides of the material together to ensure its even on both sides. Love the ideas!
Loooovee this. But I kinda have the opposite problem cause I'm taller and curvyer. This tips are very useful if you thrift from the man's section too. Great video 💕
Thank u. So much like me. I luv thrifting and never let sizes deter me. I definitely know how to work with it. Keep up the good work, u r a beautiful spirit.
I love this video! ever since I found your channel I keep hearing "fail to plan then plan to fail" motto in my head and its been low key super motivating to stay on my A game!
Great tips. I’ve used some of them before. I’ve also been thrifting for over 13 years. Love it. I get so many compliments on my outfits. People can’t believe it’s thrifted. Loved that polka dotted skirt.
Kia, this is why I love your channel. Your content is fun, creative, unique and informative! None of your videos are fillers and I really appreciate the effort and time you put into each of your videos. I always look forward to your videos :)
You do a fabulous job re purposing vintage finds. One seeing hint...when sewing put the heavier side of material to the left of the needle. You have more control sewing and can use the measure lines next to needle. Loved all of this.
WHY IS THIS THE FIRST TIME I'M SEEING YOUR CONTENT? I'm loving your style; it reminds me of my own a little, my girlfriends tease me a little and describe it as "quirky grandma meets sexy" lol. Can't wait to watch more of your content!
This was so great and so helpful. I remember when you used to fabric glue everything and didn’t want to use your sewing machine now you out here. I see you girl! Clothing line coming soon or👀👀👀

If you tie a black hair bobble around your belt it creates an adjustable loop to tuck into rather than folding it over at the front! Love the video ♥️
