I was a very young passenger on the Princess of Tasmania, older on the Abel Tasman, and then in-house entertainment on the early Spirit of Tasmania ships with my mate Mike Clennett. I grew my sea-legs whilst playing a keyboard by 1989. I was born after this video was produced, but it is way better than Saturday morning TV on TVT6. Love it!
Great incidental music . A degree of innocence and immaturity in this fascinating flick , leaves the viewer clinging to the past .
Omg! 😂 hahaha 😆 The history and development of Tasmanian transportation meets... an amateurish version of 1960’s Bond Girls with truly BIZARRE affected British/Australian accents, hilarious hair and fashion, “modern” camera techniques and a boring script. Loved the historical aspect though: the Southern Outlet empty and barely a highway; I’d forgotten about the Princess of Tasmania; and my family’s history is tied up with those Purdon shipyards in Battery Point. Thank you so much for publishing this.
*Tip:* if you get bored in the middle, don’t miss the finale. Skip to the 10:20 mark and watch those girls build up to the big finish!
This was made in the year of my birth and 23 years later I first arrived in Hobart as a 22 year old and turned 23 there! Fond memories indeed.
Cheapest electricity , maybe for large commercial industries, but not domestic power
Can't believe the accents on those girls. Trying very hard! A little bit of classic nostalgia and innocence from bygone days. I was 14 when that was made and remember most of what's covered very well.
Wow....pronunciation is very highbrow British on those girls...sounds a bit like Christopher Pyne!! Don’t think Australia manufactures like that anymore either. Fascinating look back to an Australia that no longer is....

The two women presenting this did a power of work but didn’t even get a credit at the end.
