Green Street 1 is a good film but I wouldn't of ranked it above ID. ID for me edges the others in that it's a pretty dark film that really gives you a feel for what the scene/life was like in 80's/90's England. The football hooligan films that came out this century such as Football Factory and Foot Soldier were good films but they were more about the international Box Office and glorifying it than they were about trying to put you there. They were really just high budget action/dram type films.

I'm an Everton fan, so usually I'd stick up for a film about a film set on Merseyside, but I've got to admit, it's a bit of a joke how all those skinny little lads in that film are shown beating the shit out of grown men. Even that older bloke, Steven Graham, who is in it, is a midget. It just wouldn't happen like that in real life. Not to mention the fact that Tranmere were never a top firm anyway.

ID, Football Factory, The Firm (1984) etc, etc. Green Street had a guy that was lead hooligan but spoke with a weird non London accent and I am not talking about that Lord of Rings guy. Storyline was a joke and it was so hard to take Charlie whatshisname (blond guy who was a PE teacher)seriously. Football Factory, ID and The Firm (1984- Gary Oldman ,Steve McFadden etc) piss all over the others in this list and are far better story wise and so more believable.

ID the clear winner - a great film. Football Factory second but would have been better without the dream sequences. I prefered the origional firm to the remake. cass was ok, not terrible.
Green street 1 was really badly cast i thought. Elijah wood just looks to innocent and childlike throughout, hunnam was really bad in this and at the time the only thing i knew him from was "queer as folk" so quite a change of character, even the reveal of the major i just couldnt buy the guy from hustle as being the leader of a firm, not a serious one anyway. Story could have been better, but wasnt terrible - but three really bad choices for the leading roles for me.

    • @j-boogiebrown9961

Yeah, Green Street was directed by a German woman, so I think she just was just looking for pretty boys. The real leaders of firms look like nightclub bouncers, with big necks. The same thing happens in gangster films, where they cast the likes of Johnny Depp to play feared gangsters.

Green street at number 1 ??? It’s one of the worst. I almost stopped watching when a cast iron red London phone box got toppled over during the first fight scene. That being said, that bit was more believable than Charlie Hunnam’s “cockney” accent ! For me, Nick Love summed up the culture with the remake of The firm, covering the 80’s casuals and The Football Factory covering the later Stone Island brigade. Joint number 1 for me. Number 2 would be the The Firm the original version for Oldman’s masterful performance and some of the one liner’s. In at number 3 is Cass. Authentically done and quite a life story Mr. Pennant has. Number 4 is and I can’t believe it never made the list above is Arrivderci Millwall, just because it’s a classic ! No need for number 5 and so on, the rest just don’t cut it in my book.
