😎👍 Now that you've seen this and "Interstellar," the third one to watch is "Gravity" (2013). 👽 Then you will officially be able to say that you've viewed the three greatest films of the 21st century that revolve around working in outer space. 😉
Dear boy I was a paramedic and I served briefly and I do many other things because you don't give up you, yes can fuck up, you don't ever give up. I have lots of issues diabetes auto immune ostiio arthritis. I still have a brain abd willpower and im a stubborn Dane
Going to call that out. Any potaro poo or a potato can referitate even a crop on a dead biome if you can make water you can regrow and harvest 3 or 4 times a year I do
I was cut off from the supply line for 4 months in warfare. my first was a shower, the second was steak and potatoes, a big thick cut of chop, the third was 24 hours of sleep. everything a person needs to be happy, the best day of my life
Been there did that and got the t shirt, twice in my 26 year career. First time was way back in the day with the crappy MREs, but by the end I was even craving the omelette! 😂 Luckily Iraq was the second time food wasn’t a horrible issue but doing dry chem showers and “leaver wipe” showers for 6 weeks sucked so I can’t imagine 4 months! Good on ya bro!
I don't know if it is in the not seen material of your reaction, but I saw that now on several Martian reactions, that the people do not realize the moment when he hears them over the intercom what that means. This is not about "hey i am being rescued" this is about: This is the first time he hears a human LIVE since the incident. He would have even cried if they just would have a fly by without picking him up, alone the human contact is SO FREAKING valuable, alone hearing someone over an intercom that you can reply to instantly and get instant feedback. This is what makes him cry.
@NewfieMovieReactions Finally watched it, and your company is as always a pleasure! Happy you enjoyed the movie 😊 Also did you do anything with the camera? The quality looks really good in this video!
He didn’t make a mistake. It was fatigue in the material, a small manufacturing defect that didn’t get detected during preflight inspections, and the airlock being used many more times than its expected lifetime.
He didn't cause the breach. The entrance chamber is under stress each time he compresses and decompresses (enters and exits the hab). The material at one of the attachments to the main chamber finally split due to wear.
The mostly-fabric airlock chamber was only designed for one month of use (the duration of the mission on Mars) plus a generous safety factor. He definitely exceeded the terms of the warranty!
@@NewfieMovieReactions According to the book the fabric on that airlock had a tiny mistake that got bigger over time since Mark only used that one airlock since it was the most convenient. That small error got worse and worse the more he used the airlock until it just couldnt take it anymore. After the breach NASA instructed him to switch between the remaining airlock to reduce the risk of that happening again. I belive there were overall 3 airlocks? not 100% sure on that anymore though
Its funny that both Interstellar and The Martian have Matt Damon trapped on a planet, as well as having Jessica Chastain in both movies. I think they came out one year apart but its really funny to think about it. I love both for different reasons
Love this movie so much. Probably in my top 10 all time movies. Great mix of drama and comedy. The inner dialogue and video blogging make this movie really good. You really get in his head.
I already know that I'm going to love this reaction. 😊 I love this movie so much! This is one of my favorite, feel good movies. It's always a must-watch for me whenever it's on tv. And it's good that you watched this after "Interstellar". It keeps up with the 'Matt Damon in space' theme. However in this movie you're rooting for his character. A couple of other movies that you might enjoy(which are two of my favorites), is the 2013 "Now You See Me" and the 2016 sequel "Now You See Me 2". Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Probably one of the only unrealistic things about this movie happens right at the very beginning. The Martian atmosphere is so thin compared to Earth that it couldn’t create winds that would cause that much damage. Since the gravity is only 1/3 of Earth the storms can pick up a lot of dust, but the actual wind gusts themselves would cause very little damage. But I guess they needed something to kick off the emergency.😉
at 19 minutes, the crops. In the book he explained that he double layer planted the potatoes for max yield but it kills the nutrients in the soil way faster. 29 minutes: (in book) Mitch is talking to Vincent "I think my supper had an eye ball in it" Vincent "it didn't have an eye ball" Mitch "the engineers made it special for me" "ok, there might had been an eye ball, they hate you cause you are an asshole" at 30 minutes: "hopefully no storms" in the book there was a major one and almost died if he didn't act in time. 34 minutes "he will want a nice meal" he never eats a potato for the rest of his life, at the end of the book he meets up with his commander and at a restaurant and orders a burger and when the waiter asks if her wants fries or tots he gets upset and tells them he wants NO fries at all, even when the waiter says "but they come with the burger free"
This video just popped up on my RUclips page, and I love this movie, and I don't see a lot of Canadian reactors, and definitely no Newfie's, so I had to subscribe. Matt Damon is so good in this, and the dedication to loose as much weight as he did, is crazy. The balance of comedy to drama is perfect, and you feel like you are living the adventure with him. I think his video log and the way he talks to the camera, pulls you into the story more. Loved you're reaction and I'm looking forward to more.
Regarding your question about the food running out. Technically speaking he could keep going for a full five years on the amount of space he has but after that, due to the intensity of his farming efforts, the soil would be ruined and be unable to grow any more. But even with the effort he'd put in, there simply isn't enough growth to sustain him. Think of it as a bucket of water with a hole in the bottom. The water leaking out is him using up his food supplies. He can add water back in but the amount he is able to put in, in other words the amount of food he is able to produce, is less than the amount of water draining out, him eating. This isn't something clever I thought up, it is the explanation from the book as detailed as I'm able to remember it.
Computers can only talk in 1/0 So Z is 0101 1010 . Instead of that sequence Mark would use 5A (I.e 0-9 and A-F) - As to china steping up. During Apollo 13 the Russians called up America and pretty much said "What do you need us to do?" and they even stayed off the frequencies that was being used.
Great reaction as usual! Found it interesting that your comments at 28:56 about different nations and cultures stepping up for one another were just before you quote Star Trek at 31:10.
Um...Mark IS the mission's mechanical engineer. I love both the book and the movie, but I wish they hadn't changed the rescue from the book to the idiotic Iron Man thing. In the book Mark suggests it but Lewis vetoes it immediately. Mark stays put in his seat and Beck goes out and gets him as planned with no issues.
Re: Going to Mars... Imagine living in an research station at the South Pole for the rest of your life, then recognise that Mars is MUCH colder, plus you can never step outside without wearing a suit and you'll either have to live underground to escape the radiation or cover your structures in many meters of regolith, so limited external views. Oh and... You'll be there 'til; the day you die as you're never going to be able to justify the cost of taking a return trip. I love the dream, but the reality actually sucks.
Spoiler from the book about the airlock incident/china - The fabric has been stretched a little bit more each time he went in and out. Then it reached the critical point and let go. Yes China would step up. China getting to rescue an American in space and showing that China is just as good as America?
He could have maybe still grown more potatoes even after the blowout. I think he was planting whole potatoes. You don’t need to. Just an “eye” of a potato will grow another one. Here on earth anyway. The extra part of the potato would have MAYBE provided more nutrients or st so the potato had a better chance of growing. Not sure. But technically u don’t need the whole potato.
Hey good job finishing the movie? Can you not watch the whole movie I mean you channel is about watching a movie but you don’t finish it? Weird get better at this “job” you don’t leave a job before you finish hopefully they don’t pay you in full this check

24:29 "thank you for being my mom and dad" that line always makes me cry..
To quote from the book "Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshiped."

Matt Damon marooned in space back to back.
At the risk of sounding like Captain Barbossa, but after all that time eating just potatoes, I'd go CRAZY to bite into a nice juicy crispy apple.
Matt didn't make a mistake, the airlock was just way past it's designed lifespan.
Soooo happy to see you on my front page again! Don't have time to see this right now, but I can't wait! Welcome back ❤
Thank you!! 😊 Let me know what you think when you get around to watching it. :D

@@helga_Thora Not the camera no, but the movie quality yes. I created the movie copy in a much higher format. :)
Yo! Love your reactions, hope your having a wonderful holiday season!
Thanks so much! You too!

They had a body double for the "Skinny" Mark Watney. He looked a little like Matt, and keeps his face covered as much as possible.

Add in Saving Private Ryan and you've spent a significant amount of wealth and lives in order to rescue Matt Damon in just three movies.
Love this movie so much. Probably in my top 10 all time movies. Great mix of drama and comedy. The inner dialogue and video blogging make this movie really good. You really get in his head.

I cut out a bunch of cat in this one during slower scenes. lol .

34:00 - I always wondered if he ever ate a potato after this or if he had enough for a lifetime.
It's not just Bucky!Mordo is in this too, as well as Wong and the greatest storyteller - Luis! 😂
Great reaction, as always! The Martian is a great movie, and I highly recommend you read the book. The audio book also has a great narrator.
38:03 LOL🤣🤣
@34:02 I'm betting you could probably get a huge sponsor deal if you picked their food/restaurant.
1st meal. Stop at an In n Out!
I've never had In n Out before. I don't think they are here in Canada.
@ they are not in Canada. Most of the states don’t have them. Mostly in California. Maybe Nevada and Arizona. But that’s it.
Also Jessica Chastain was in Interstellar as grown up Murphy
Red Green uses duct tape for a reason.
So much money the government has spent on saving Matt Damon. 😅
