Hollows remain bound to the human world by their chain when the soul feels too strong an attachment to someone or something, Orihime's brother knew he was all she had and so his soul stayed bound to her.

Just so you know the first 15 or so episodes are slightly changed from the manga. To the point where some things just don't come out the way they are supposed to at all. One of the changes in this episode was Orihime and Tatsuki's talk when they bumped into Ichigo. In the anime they are talking about food but in the manga they are talking about Orihime's crush on Ichigo.

These changes in the first 15 got so bad the creator of the manga Tite Kubo was getting sick watching it. So he asked to see everything before they released and gave his approvals. Of course things stayed censored like episode 1 the little girl spirit actually dies to the hollow and the dad is seen bleeding on the floor when the hollow comes to the house.

Thanks for the added context! I'm glad Kubo was allowed to have a say with the show.

@@PeaceReacts oh I forgot to add. Both episode 8 and 9 are changed for the worse from the manga. They take away from the story something that is supposed to be inpactful in favor of jokes and filler. So after you watch them you should see if you can watch the Memories in the Rain OVA which is the true manga canon version

It's probably worth it to check the manga chapters when you go through these episodes, not only to see the differences but also to appreciate Kubo's original vision. A lot of small details and lore get lost in the anime and make you feel it's not that well written. But i'd say about 80% of the anime is faithful to the manga, so not that big of a deal.
