Imo for chapter 1-early 2, this is the strongest class and i bet it'll hold up until later chapters. Agreed that it fills alot of roles. My setup currently: equipment: shortbow and shield spells: sparkstrike, heal, instill fire skills: bow, meditate, constitution, concentration have my denam as a rune fencer. actually not being too tanky is a boon imo for redirecting threat. The issue when i had the knight as my tank/healer, the enemy avoided hitting him. the cleric is too squishy and gets targeted alot. The rune fencer is kind of in the middle so they dont get focus fired too much and they can heal themselves easily. My build is pure ranged for action economy. The rune fencers missile spells help offset the bow's issues with armor. While the bow's arcing offsets the missile spell's targeting issues. Technically, they are my main striker units but they're really more of striker/healers. The bulk of my party's dmg comes from the wizard's and their charms+indirect spells.
I grew up during the SNES days and own all previous Playstation consoles. I can't believe I missed out on this back then. Loving the game so far. Thank for the build guides!
Magic Swordsman is my fave class genre in any RPG. Rune Fencer, Red Mage, Spellblade, whatever name they got, I love the mix of martial and magic in both hands and Rune Fencer is much stronger in Reborn than compared to earlier versions.
For late game people, if you got a dedicated wizard/enchantress/warlock/ witch, and you finally got access to the summon spells, whether the tier 1 ones in PotD or the tier 2 in Floating Ruins, swap your mages with high Int/Mind to Rune Fencer as they’ll really benefit from summon magic and have high magic damage by then 😊
I love Rune Fencer / Valkyrie. I try to use two all the time. I like that they can also use Ease if you're dealing with some mobs that debuff you (if I see a cockatrice in the scouting map I put it on both my fencers) I use Cistina and Cerya to fill that role. Since they have the spear trained up, I can also have them fill in as a Dragoon if I need one. I'm playing around with them using a 1h Sword and Cross bow right now. I'm really liking it, but I don't think anything can top the Spear finishers.
Those are my Valkyries too. Been boosting their Int and Mind for some respectable summon damage. I have one using sword for Vile Wound though or to use Oracion when I'm in PotD (Exercism 2 weapon skill). Don't sleep on Rending Gale either. Laskar's Beloved is also an amazing weapon I use outside the Palace.
Yeah my denam also a rune fencer since chapter 2... probably that until post games when I can get my lord class. My build is very similar but main thing different is I use a shield instead. I find that help somewhat with the defense.
This is one of my favorite games. I played the ps1 version on and off until this game on ps5 came out. Vandal hearts, Final Fantasy tactics, ogre battle and crono trigger are other greats I would love to see remade. As for the fencer I like versatility so I went sword n bow but may try hammer. I have a hammer on my beast tamer and he hits like a truck. Im doing the lawful route you get 26 characters instead of 24 in the other two routes (not including CODA). In the ps1 you could get the forbidden powers if you had the four sisters but it doesn’t look like it’s in this version so lawful seemed like the best path to take.
Since psp version lawful route become merry route lol In ps1 version more balanced because more restricted class systems, neutral got terror knight which kinda hard to make one, chaos route got almost every generic class
@@luckmanyo yeah definitely different from the old days. I am enjoying it. I always wanted my favorite type of games remade. I’m not a fan of the newer type games like call of duty n stuff I like these classic tactical rpgs. Hope this game does well enough for them to remake more.

I thought they sucked until 30. Once they get the 30 and 40 finishers it gets wild. They take damage that priests wouldn't take at low levels because they have to be close to cast stuff. Also once you get the 2~3 range spears they can just stand behind stuff and hit things.

In reborn RF stat growth sucks big arse. Personally, i don't recommend you leveling up as RF, just lvl up as knight/terror/warrior/dragoon plus wizard in 2:1 ratio. Knight/warrior for hp, dragoon for stat, wizard for mp only. Another tips, make your cleric into RF when heal efficiency start dwindling
Stat growths aside from hp/mp doesn't seem matter on lvl 1 to 20ish, but when hit lvl 30 ish you should really consider specific stat like int for mage, def for knight, atk/dex for dual wilder/archer. Because the variation started to become clearer.
For generics, i don't think RF is that good, but RF is a very good class for Denam. MP cards are very rare and RF is the only physical class that gets decent amount of MP growth per level. All the other stats are more common and you can auction dragons or beasts for the steaks etc. None of these boost MP, at least i don't think i've seen one that boosts MP...

I think you're exaggerating the cleric's value. Lots of people, including faized, do well without using clerics. I do too and its my 1st time playing tactics ogre reborn with a no incap, no chariot run. Never found the need for clerics. The key is to use items and make rune fencers the boon of swiftness bot. With that said i agree, they're not really going to stay as your main striker for all periods of the game. The summon does help but the rune fencer is really best equipped to be filling in gaps and a support role instead of a striker or blaster meant to kill things.
