A ship is evaluated based on its place within its fleet and doctrine, as well as its attributes. *I think it needs to be pointed out that you cannot compare a medium cruiser to a battleship in firepower.* Of course heavier starships like the Galaxy and Sovereign are going to way overpower the Galors. They are much, much larger. *_The measure is how effective the Cardassian cruisers and destroyers are in their weight class in the Dominion War, and by your own admission they are plenty competitive._* Ultimately, aside for obvious political reasons of not wanting the Cardassians to build a lot of capital ships, the Dominion ran a Joint-Fleet. The Cardassians filled the gap between the Bug attack ship and the battlecruisers with the Galor IIs as destroyers, and IIIs as medium cruisers, and the Keldons as heavy cruisers. The Jem Hadar attack ships and Galors were great complements to one another. *_We see Galors doing exactly what they should be doing: One-shotting attack ships as heavy fire support for the Jem Hadar attack ships, and easily killing frigates and light cruisers. That is the exact role for a medium cruiser or heavy destroyer._* And in that role the Cardassian ships were perfectly adequate, and even ideal when one considers how quickly Galors can be built and the ease of logistics for a common platform. The Galors served like the Shermans or T-34s of the era, and the up-gunned Galors like the Sherman Firefly to be produced in large numbers. Cruisers were particularly valuable against enemies like the Klingons and Romulans who lacked lots of them.
I would hope a Sovereign Class greatly outclasses a Galor! But you are right. People do this all the time. The Galor 2 is a good destroyer. The Galor 3 is a very good medium cruiser. The Keldon is a good heavy cruiser.
So what you are saying is that the Dominion War Galors and Keldons were more than adequate against ships they were actually fighting? Like yeah, no kidding that Federation battleships outclassed cruisers 1/4th their size. I'm not so interested in how a Galor Type 3 rates against the rare Sovereign or Galaxy, but how they rate against a K'Vort or Excelsior, or Norway Class and the rest of the meaty curve of the Klingon and Fed fleets. i.e, other destroyers and cruisers.
Good video but I’d go back much to ds9 episode defiant. Gul dukat note the obsidian order ships were faster than any he had ever seen it was later revealed they had clocking devices when they joined the tail shiar to join the founders home world. This means they had Romulan tec in them and were heavily upgraded. Now yes that fleet was destroyed but the ship yard and the plans would have still been there so maybe they used those plans to do upgrades or better yet build the new ships to the new spec so I’d say the were more romulin
I do account for range but not too much .. there's not enough Canon information for me to make adequate data tables... So it's limited to torpedoes extra-long.. spiral wave long distance... Phasers medium.... Disruptors short
I was under the impression that the Galor I was a TNG era ship, then the Galor II was DS9 and the Galor III and Keldon’s were Dominion War upgrades (like the Galaxy II’s).
The kelton was around before the Dominion War. But the only version we see is the Romulan produced version. And the only other thing we know is cardassian military version is slower than Romulan version.
The Galor 1 and 2 were almost as big of a death trap as the Oberth when facing the Federation and Klingons. The dominion would be stupid to not upgrade these Cardassian ships. 👍
@@huginstarkstrom They have an interest in their fleets being effective. The Cardassian Fleet was a significant percentage of the Joint-Fleets during the first year of the War. Given Dominion success under Dukat, one infers that the Cardassians fought well.

One has to assume Central Command took over the Orias Yards. One also notes that the primary Cardassian torpedo by the War was the Plasma Torpedo.
Good point. Also Cardies make good tech in small amounts at times.
For the algorithm
Another great video. Do you account for range? Based on range shields are almost useless.

they were manned by Cardassians. I am sure, the dominion wouldn't care that much about losing Cardassians.
