That would be a great idea! With WWE being the only competition for the genre that would be a good move. They would be able to offer something that WWE 2K games don't offer.
@@edwardgaines6561 Yeah, I never really got why his moves are more martial-arts than wrestling. Never saw a proper explanation on anything I've read about him.
I remember seeing this one at an arcade in a Mexican bus terminal. Of course what caught my eye was the fact that Haggar was in it. Please do the sequels.
Alexander the Grater was inspired by real-life wrestler, Big Van Vader. They have very similar appearances and if you take the time to watch Grater's intro you'll see he wears a helmet bearing no small resemblance to Vader's.
It would be cool if they make a Remake, I would like to see more Wrestlers and Capcom fighters returning like El Fuerte, Hugo, R.Mika, Laura, Alex and Zangief from the Street Fighter Universe and even characters from Darkstalkers like Victor or Gunrock from Power Stone
Ray D if I’m not mistaken, I believe Sakura is the link to the Street fighter universe as she is a student and friend to one of the female protagonist.
Ray D Sakura is in the first Rival Schools game, she’s a childhood friend of Hinata. Hinata and another character make cameos in the Kanzuki beach stage in Street Fighter V
Excellent review and insight into the Street Fighter World, and Prowrestling. I was bummed you didn't mention Ryu, Chun-li, and E. Honda are spectators in the crowd. Eddie Guerrero was not Tiger Mask. He was Black Tiger II.
Vader was really popular in Japan as SNK based Big Bear and Capcom based Sheep on him. It's shame that Saturday Slam Master hasn't been in a Capcom collection yet along with Red Earth.
Actually, the exception to the rule of punches and kicks in Street Fiughter is Zangief. It looks like he could easily fit into the game, but usually when there's a Haggar, there's no Zangief and vice versa. It begs the question... Are they one and the same person? Doubtful, but you never see both of them in the same game, even in Slammasters.
Scorpion is also based on the Mexican wrestler (and pop culture icon)Tinieblas, right down to the mask, as well as Tiger Mask. Great video! Also, Guerrero played Black Tiger, not Tiger Mask. :P
Great video and clear to see you were quite passionate about this one ,rightly so as SNSMs is a very underrated game. I had the privilege of playing this beauty in Arcade form back in the early 90's and what a game it was. Back in the time when WWF was part of my staple diet of cartoons and mayhem. Some very cool factoids about this game ,my favourite being the Tetsuo hara link as i am also a big fan of Fist of The North Star.
Wow! This has been my favorite episode so far! And that is saying a lot because all of your episodes are awesome. I would love to see you cover the sequel, I was playing that one not so long ago with friends online on Fightcade!
A relaunch with stronger wrestling aspects like custom creator and ring, belt creator would be awesome..... and for the love of god no.... 3D animation.
very nice. played this on emu. what makes it interesting is that it’s part of street fighter universe. i’d like you to have a go with the sequel for more background on characters.
I love Ring of Destruction as well. Especially when you can do a super move so powerful, it literally drives your opponent through the mat! Yes, do a Slam Masters 2 video. 😎👍
Scorpion looks like mexican luchador Tinieblas. He was popular in the 70s, 80s, and 90s,. He even had his own comic in Mexico. His son is still wrestling Tinieblas jr and uses the same mask.
I introduced the SNES version to my son on our Rasberry Pi, and he's hooked on it. One of my favorites in my teen years. Super fun game, and a great job covering it. And NOW I know there was a sequel!!
the fact that u brought up Jack veneno, made me so happy as a dominican person. and thank u for this in depth breakdown, i loved this game on SNES but never knew much about it.
Actually I believe that Astro (The Scorpion in the NA version) is a reference to the mexican luchador Tinieblas Jr., specially with the vest he wears in the art.
Great video. Never heard of this game, I had a Sega Genesis at the time but don't remember seeing this game in stores. Wonder if a video was ever done for WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game?
I loved this game on SNES as a kid. Team Battle Royal kept me and my friends busy for hours. I always pretended Grater was Vader and would commentate the matches as I played. Throwing the table into the ring to use as the final knockout blow leading to a pin fall victory was absolutely dastardly!! Or using the beer bottle. Great times. Thanks for the great flashback. Really enjoyed this video!!
Mike Haggar pulling a Jesse Ventura, lol! Slam Masters is WAY underrated! If memory serves me right, a sequel was made, but either didn't sell well making it a rarity, or it was never released in the west.

My uncle, who was a luchador, got me Saturday Night Slam Masters on the SNES. It was definitely a sleeper because I never heard of it before, but I loved it!
I had this on the SNES and loved it. The English wrestler looks like a clone of T-Hawk, I always thought they should have just put T-Hawk instead. I haven't played the sequel but I have seen videos of it and it's a downgrade from what I can see. it's a linear fighting game without the ability to move around the ring, which is stupid if you are calling it a wrestling fighting game.
I still have this game in my snes collection, is funny to think that In Mexico it was very hard to get games, but my older brother found this one alongside Castlevania IV and Super Soccer. I love this game from top to botrom and I hope you do the sequel as well :) Great work ln the video man :)
This was always a favorite game of mine. As a fan of street fighter and still a loyal player I really want to see more crossover between this classic and street fighter.
Titanic Tim was also probably inspired by El Gigante also known as Giant Gonzalez, who was pretty limited in the ring just like him. To be fair, he was a basketball player first.
I couldn't understand why Capcom didn't add Zangief onto the lineup of the other wrestling characters of this classic wrestling game, it would've been cool. I wish Capcom would produce a sequel and given a Street Fighter update/upgrade treatment that has more familiar wrestling like characters from all Street Fighter and Final Fight series, Rival Schools as well, maybe put a few Marvel characters in the mix, the same characters from both Saturday Night Slam Masters games, and introduce some newcomers onto the sequel...take my money, now..great review and video.

Super Muscle Bomber is great, specially that intro.
They made it into a 2-D fighter. Not worth it if you were expecting a wrestling sequel

Tetsuo Hara ( Fist of the North Star) did such a great job with these character designs! This is probably Capcoms MANLIEST game ever made!
Yeah. It was the main reason I played it. Hokuto no Ken is the greatest
They should've kept Tetsuo Hara on the payroll, no disrespect to Ikeno, Bengus, and Nishimura.
Trivia fact: It is entirely possible, even likely, Capcom doesn’t own the characters.
I love seeing Slam Masters getting so much love.
The Scorpion is actually the spit image of the luchador Tenieblas. I believe he was a contemporary of El Santo.
he looks more like Junior, with the silver mask.
Definitely Tinieblas. mask is 100% his and even the shoulder accessories
Really? I thought Scorpion/Astro was Guy in disguise.

That was the impression I had as well. Grater/Vader, similar body type, face, hair and smoking entrance helmet. How could this be anyone else?
I wonder if Raiden/Big Bear over at Fatal Fury, who is also Australian, took inspiration from Vader as well?
@@theblocksays That seems quite plausible.
yea I was about to say this. How did this guy miss the obvious inspiration.
I was just going to say Grater looks a lot like Vader did in matches in Japan.

And Captain Commando.
Ray D if I’m not mistaken, I believe Sakura is the link to the Street fighter universe as she is a student and friend to one of the female protagonist.

Ray D Sakura Kusagano
And DarkStakers trought The Wrait.
YAAAASSSS. Now all we need is Dungeons and Dragons Tower of Doom & Shadows of Mystara
Those games rock!
Got one minor detail wrong, Eddie Guerrero never portrayed Tiger Mask, he portrayed Black Tiger.
Doooooh!!!!!!!!
As did Marc Rocco. Rocco was the original. Eddy was Black Tiger II
David Young I believe Rocky Romero was Black Tiger 3 or 4?
The scorpion is based on the mexican wrestler tinieblas who fought in japan in the 90’s the mask is basically the same lol
