Soil profile refers to the vertical arrangement of soil layers, also known as soil horizons. These horizons are formed by natural processes such as weathering, erosion, and deposition of organic matter. The soil profile is typically divided into several distinct layers, each with its own unique characteristics.
The top layer, known as the O horizon, is composed of organic matter such as dead leaves and plant debris. It is typically dark in color and has a high concentration of nutrients.
The A horizon, or topsoil, is the layer that is most important for plant growth. It is composed of mineral particles mixed with organic matter and has a high concentration of nutrients and microorganisms.
The B horizon, or subsoil, is composed of larger mineral particles than the A horizon and has less organic matter. It is typically lighter in color than the A horizon.
The C horizon, or parent material, is composed of rock fragments that have not yet undergone significant weathering. It is typically the deepest layer in the soil profile.
The R horizon, or bedrock, is the solid rock layer that underlies all of the other soil layers. It is typically composed of granite, basalt, or other types of rock.
Soil profile - vertical cross section of the soil. Can be seen on the basis of texture , colour , etc.
Horizon - horizontal layer of soil.
O horizon - organic horizon , only seen in forest area. Dark colour
A horizon - alluvial horizon , top most horizon of cultivated soil , top soil , mineral horizon / surface horizon

A2 elluviation - downward of mineral / washing out / leaching / E horizon also called.
A3 intermediate of A and B horizon
B horizon- yellow / accumulation of nutrients / wasting in
B1
