Definitely good timing on this topic. Excellent guest. Funny, I've been reading The Ethics of Beauty by Dr. Timothy Patitsas and was just wondering whether Dr. Pete Patitsas was related. Thanks for answering that question without me having to ask.
I'm in pretty good shape. I am a little overweight, but I am active and eat fairly healthy. I had hernia surgery back in March, and the nurse who was prepping me for surgery seemed surprised that I'm not on any medication. I'm 37. You would think not being on medication would be normal.
Obesity is probably more related to food quality than consumption, at least thats what ive gathered. The average metabolism has been destroyed. Ive seen research saying americans used to consume even more calories than they do now. I think that bad health and diet will also be an inhibitor to fasting. It is harder to fast when it causes more pain than merely hunger. Eating consistently can help regulate things like hormonal balance and blood sugar. But ive read that fasting can make those things more resilient. Some health communities, like those inspired by Ray Peat, are very against fasting generally. It is hard to know just by mere science, or comparison of studies and infographics, what is the most beneficial. But fasting at times is prescribed by the church, so i know its necessary and i hope its beneficial. But my bodily health may or may not be a priority of the Church, especially above my soul. Although those priorities are entangled.
Food quality has gone down, but Americans are far less active than they used to be. So even if we used to eat more calories, we used to burn more as well. I think it's a very complex mix of issues.
23:20 Pete, there's a difference between public and private debt. Governments are not households. Households cannot print their own money. Think of governments like the bank in the game monopoly. When the players need more money to keep playing, the bank issues it. It even says in the rules that when you run out of money to create more. This misunderstanding is causing so many problems in our world. How can we do anything when our governments are "bankrupt" and "have no money"? See how awfully nihilistic and depressing that sounds?
Blessed Nativity Fast! Fantastic discussion of the way to true healing, you both are examples of philotimo and pray many are changed by it!
This was excellent. God bless you both

Yes you would. The medicine mind is more than just about medicine I fear…
36:14 yes addiction to consumerism, convenience, comfort. Those all flatten the understanding of the world.
Can we create enough relief? Unflatten it by just being present?
Just in time for the Nativity fast!
Also i have noticed elderly people having more difficulty after trying to IF. Slower mentally. The brain needs a lot of consistent and easy energy.
No coincidence- breakfast is to “Break the Fast” … the communion Fast after morning Liturgy.
Man imagine 100 days without food being a huge American moment.
Does Game B include human sacrifice? :P

Ya i believe that too@@joshw3010
Yes the research is all over the place! That’s why I like what you said… “the church prescribes….”
It’s kinda straightforward

Solid but perhaps the idea still applies? Obesity and debt image each other?
