Meal worms would be better, the little buggers eat just about everything, so literally feed them trash and if you can process them with a set up like this....
Does the food for maggots must be ground? in my case, I use food waste from restaurants, supermarkets. Maggots do not eat the food all up and some leftovers are in big pieces. Will big pieces be a problem for your washer?

It washer more than 1 Ton Worms. after the washer water is recycled by a water treatment machine,so there is not waste, worms can be animal feeders
