Great video! Hot take, i think if tyler smith shows everything he can do, he can be considered a lottery pick or early first rounder. He's 6'10, hes atheltic, if he can show hes a consistent shooter, that instantly boost his draft stock from already being a 6'10 atheltix forward. Hes definitely shown his defense and understanding. And i think his feel for the game is underrated. When you watch him play in the games he makes pretty good reads for someone his age and and position. So with being 6'10, atheltic, defense, shooting, feel for the game, easily could be considered a lotto pick. Like i said tho, hot take

Thanks for watching! I like Tyler Smith and like I mentioned in the video, he's on my round 1 watchlist. He has tons of things going for him NBA-wise in terms of size, length, pop, and skillset.
In theory, he could be a great 4 to have next to a paint-oriented big or even someone like a Zion Williamson or Scottie Barnes who needs the floor stretched out in order to rack up touches on the inside.
Just waiting to see how he develops playing against higher level competition than what he's used to so far. That's not to disparage OTE since I've never had a problem with that environment (in fact, it was great for Ausar and Amen Thompson, now Izan Almansa and Tyler Smith with the G League Ignite, Alex Sarr in Australia, even Jaylen Martin who's with the Westchester Knicks) but Tyler needs to prove to me still he can make high level reads on both ends.
I've really liked what he's shown offensively so far. Very willing shooter, even when the shot isn't falling, can play above the rim to crash the boards and finish lobs. But he can look a little lost on defense still, both guarding smaller players on the perimeter but also when he has to make rotations as a big closer to the rim.

@@isidro5461 It's a pick that would make sense for the Pelicans, but I think a long-term view would be needed with it since Smith is still pretty far behind defensively in terms of development. It's especially obvious when Ignite goes to him at the 5. He's just not ready to make those defensive reads at a high level right now.
Down the line, though, a Zion-Smith frontcourt with size+athleticism (both), shooting (Smith) and ballhandling/creation (Zion) is interesting. I like the idea.

It is difficult for me to assess the quality of the Ignite players given the disastrous season they are having.
Their defense is a joke and on offense there doesn't seem to be any criteria. We'll see if with the return of London Johnson there will be some consistency, at least offensively.
