Element was "funny" getting on , yes everyone wanted to be on that team , Bam was honestly funding the the "whole thing" ( some one said he sold more boards personally than the whole rest of the board company per month) , but Element had tons of "shop flow" and would not do anything to move them to flow or sponsor AM. Eli Williams is my personal example of this. It's free marketing, local rippers ripping on THEIR boards . Eli left after he realized they wasn't doing anything more with him. Ok it's kinda known that if you are over the age of 12 (massive hate for posting this) you shouldn't be grabbing your board , back then and even now.. Air walks , blunt to grab in , Ollie grabs etc.. T.M. want flips , rails , ledge tricks , lines LIKE you said. Mike V. Got a "pass" because he's old , and probably would have whooped someone ass 🤷🤔🤣🤣🤣 RUclips honestly WAS the way to go in skateboarding, if you was going to make a living , career out of it . Myself including, hated on it because it was NOT legit , or guys who could not make it on proper skateboard teams, I was an idiot, kook thinking that. I still think there should be some gatekeeping? That's the reason why I realized even if you were to get on something, rules n politics would turn something you love into something kinda shitty.

Been skating for 20+ years myself and I think its so goofy how many tricks are looked down upon for absolutely no good reason, its all for fun and expression, all tricks are valid, all forms of skating are valid, it started with cruising and freestyle, we're just flipping wood, its for the art, some people act lame as hell though. I understand wanting the tricks to be clean, but theres a lot more restriction than that. Airwalk off a rooftop is ridiculously risky off a drop and valid, nobody complains if someone does an Indy off the drop tho. Airwalk is harder and I'd rather see creativity and expansion on the art with a variety of tricks rather than 1000 kickflip front boards/crooks, all skating is valid regardless tho. To me skating is about expression, exercise, community, art, and the lessons of dedication, perseverance, overcoming fear, and commitment.
People overlook the fact that skaters are doing shit that could end up breaking their bodies or worse. Nobody, unless they have that fire in their soul, would dance with danger as much. A skater isn't someone doing a pass-time sport, they are repetitive and consistent. It's not only a way of thinking, it's a total way of life. (Then there's the Karen's to put up with) Shred on peeps.
Feel like they just thought the reward wasn't worth the risk/time, given that you were capable of doing more tech non-grab tricks. Like you got rocked by that fall for an airwalk that was risky as fuck but the camera angle didnt do justice to showing the actual airwalk part in a cool way. Also mike v was basically near the end of his sponsorship of element around the time you started riding for element. Even if some skaters were able to pull it off and get lucky enough to build a career out of it, it was still easier to entertain people and sell more boards with "non-weird" impressive tricks in a video part in ur era. I think element only wanted a certain amount of weird skaters, and sadly they only brought u on to be a non-weird skater. Skate industry's fucked.

Fuck rules. Skateboarding, whether you consider it a sport, free form action art, hobby, whatever...it should be about being you and being creative and loving what you're doing. Element lost out when they did that shit. I think about how many great, creative skaters never even got a chance because the industry frowned upon so much awesome creativity, and it sucks. WE lost out because of the views the industry took.
