Seeing how nice that tiny bit of silver trim makes the box look, I really wish Hasbro would update the Black Series boxes. It’s been pretty much the exact same design for five years now. It’s time to change it up.
I really enjoy his articulation, and the sculpting. But I agree, he could be a heavier. It goes great with my black series empire display. Can’t wait to get the cloud city Luke, and atat driver. They are both being delivered, next month. I already have all of the bountyhunters from Empire, snow trooper, and general vers. Hoph Luke and Wompa. Plus cloud city Han and Leaha, Chewy and 3PO, on his back. And of course the original Lando and Yoda. The only thing I don’t have, that would go great with the display. Is the Han and tantan, just too darn expensive on eBay. And I need to finally break down, and purchase the spirit OB-Wan. Sorry for the long comment LOL, thanks for the review.
I actually told my 84 year old mother i wanted this. And she had it delivered. It took her 3 days to figure out how to attach a picture to an email last month, but she got this AWESOME figure to show up on my birthday. I had the original Kenner version when i was a kid. Then lost it in a move about 4 years ago and as a grown man, i was devastated. This is quite an upgrade though. The first thing i did was check to see if the antennas extended and was not disappointed.
When I first saw pics of the droid with other figures I booted up Fallen Order and force pulled one to me and it seemed to be the same sort of scale as the figure ingame.
I think the scale is pretty accurate. This link has a few photos of the actual screen used model and it's huge. www.themodellingnews.com/2018/05/in-boxed-112th-scale-imperial-probe.html?m=1 There's another picture of the Probe Droid on location in Norway next to the film crew that you can google.
La Rascasse indeed, I think the scale is accurate. I think the head section is slightly disproportionate like Mike said, but it also more closely resembles the original Probe Droid toy, which I’d wager lots of us remember better than the actual film prop!
Ok, it looks like you’re spot on about the scale. Like I said in the review it’s tough to tell from the images I searched and the clips but these images definitely show what it should be.
@@MikeKaess I actually thought it might be too small. The dome looks good, but based on the picture, it shoujld have a bigger curve. But overall, great video and fun humor.
Mine is sitting at my local EBgames in Canada. They received them the day that the order for retail to close came. Looking forward to finally getting it. Thanks for the review Mike. always appreciated.
I finally found one at my local Target (huge shocker considering my area sucks for collectors) and I couldn’t resist. Came back to watch your review because I needed another opinion on it haha! Awesome review!
Mike Kaess for the most part I believe so! I do really like the size of the figure though, it’s quite huge but I think it’s accurate to the size of a normal BS figure. I just had to get it once I saw it in person!
Awesome review Mike! I wasn't planning on getting this figure but after spotting several in Target, I caved and... I have to say, this thing is amazing. It's a nice departure from the humanoid figures and it makes the other Hoth figures pop on my display!
Hey Mike nice video, you know your the second person that I'm subscribed to for the black series videos usualmiketelevision (also a mike) has black series news and updates I watch his channel for that and yours for the reviews. Again thanks for the video I hope to get this guy soon.
I was in the market for a Probe Droid and stumbled upon one that was slightly larger or “elite series” and I bought that one. Since I do not collect one series or another like the Black Series I really only wanted a nice displayable Probe Droid for my desk and the Disney store Elite series won the quest!
Glad I picked one up before these get scalped. Really hope they give us an imperial protocol droid like we saw in Rebels since we've pretty much got every other imperial droid now
Figured they'll eventually have one on Mandalorian and I'll kick myself for not buying one otherwise. We really need more of the larger droids in the line. Astromechs are cool, but I would like to see the larger scale ones made more often
Personally I love this big militaristic feeling Probot (why, incidentally, didn't they use the Probot name I wonder?). The stop motion model did indeed appear to have a slightly more bulbous head, but it also didn't feature the antennae so I think they did the best thing to go with the big scale prop. And if you turn it the proper angle, the hatch (?) On top gives it that more rounded appearance. Incidentally I think you missed the antenna and the unique way they rise in the stages albeit slight steps (accurate tho now that I've reviewed the film, sometimes I think we confuse old toy features with what happened in the actual films, or at least I have at times!) but the mechanism feels very intriguing, any one know how it works? It has a unique pull/self-propel feel to it. If I had to say they missed an opportunity/feature/gimmick itd be the subtle inclusion of a light pipe"eye" for the one eye that absolutely shines bright white even in the glare of snow covered Hoth. And I know Black Series have never included electrionics but that insecty "zabble dabble girblleee" sound it makes always comes to mind when I think of this Droid. Surely they could throw in a cheapo sound effect like they do on $2 keychains? I may take it apart and add a little LED there, and also so I can see how the antenna mechanism works. I have no idea why it fascinates me so. But yeah, now I need a Hoth Han to go with him, hopefully they'll do another carded empire wave and include him?
NewtonDKC I took mine apart to mod it and the antennae piece slides along a series of small notches which allow it to extend/retract in stages. Been taking apart Star Wars toys since the 80s and have discovered lots of tiny engineering feats like this :)
Evan Snyder Awesome dude! Thanks for sharing and totally respect that: when I was a kid I used to drive my parents bats by taking apart pretty much every toy they d get me to see how it worked, sometimes building other toys or incorporating parts in with other toys. This mechanism on the Probot antenna has such a subtle and nearly unique feel that I have to see it... It seems like it reminds me of something else but I can't remember what else had that "pull it and after a point it feels like it moves the rest of the way itself" lol, hard to describe it, hopefully I'm not the only one who thinks it feels odd and keeps popping those dang antennae up and down trying to envision how it works!
NewtonDKC right on man, I encourage you to take this guy apart too! It’s pretty easy - just need a small Phillips screwdriver! I added a little sound card and LED to mine. Simple engineering tricks like the mechanism for the antennae may seem trivial but sometimes the simplest mechanisms are the most ingenious!
yeah i totally missed the antennae. It pretty cool how they're one piece so they raise at the same time. But it does feel like a missed opportunity to have some simple electronics in there. We're long overdue for Hasbro to re-release the Hoth Han and/or Luke.
I received mine last week. I’m very happy with it overall. I agree with you, it would be nice to have some extra explosions or a voice chip like the SDCC Obi Wan set. My biggest gripe is wishing that the hinges/joints had a little more resistance to them. My friend and I run a toy photography Insta account and we don’t use Photoshop. So setting this guy up without the base was almost impossible. But yeah, happy overall with this. 😎
Aaron Geis I added a tiny sound card to mine. Hasbro left so much room inside the mold it’s almost like they were considering adding electronics during the design and left the space they might need for it.
Great review. Big Probe Droid fan here. I don't own the black series one yet but seeing the relative size with other six Inch figures I think it's actually on the small side, more in scale with the 3 3/4 figures. Check out the photos of the actual prop on set and in the shop next to the crew people and the Probe Droid is quite big.
I have the 3.75 one too and I’m not convinced this one is worth 30 bucks. I saw it at Target and I almost pulled the trigger but held back when I saw the price.
Hehehehe 'widest stance'. Still waiting on ours. It'll be going on the Hoth shelf.,and the Force Link one will be moved to the background to try and replicate size/distance. I agree about the scale.,it looks 'just a bit too big'.,but then the Force Link one looks 'just a bit too small'. Cheers Mike

I think if the black series was made of metal like the Disney’s elite die cast collection, it would have a better feel of wait and more realistic metallic look versus the rusty dried brown paint job on it. But overall it does look great.👍🏻
i normally wouldn't agree with this, because i think the die cast in the elite series didn't hold up. But i think in this figure it probably would have been ok
It is accurately sized if you look at pictures of the probes next to troopers online from the set you’ll see that it is huge and way bigger than a person.
