As someone who owned a Dumble for about 30 years That not only nails it perfectly but they vary in character, and what I'm hearing is the best of the best (subjective to some degree) but absolutely great Dumble Sound. Hats off to the builder.
Hey Bobby thank you so much for the comment. I agree, hats off to the builder. It thrills me to get your review since you have firsthand experience. I've never played through a real dumble, only clones, so your words mean so much. I'm simply obsessed with this amp!
Bobby I'm also from the Twin Cities did you sell your Dumble? I remember seeing you playing it at The Whisky Junction and other places around town. It was a combo. Didn't you have it made into a head & cabinet?
I tried a Dumble at Ace Music in Santa Monica back in '87 before I ever knew what a Dumble was. Very impressive tone, but it was the feel that really knocked me out. It felt very connected and had great clarity. I realized how ham-fisted most amps were after playing it. The amp's owner just wanted to show it off to his friend, the shop owner, who offered to buy it from him for ten grand. The Dumble owner laughed and said he wasn't selling it. Then he packed up the amp in his Porsche 928 and zoomed back to Brentwood or Beverly Hills or wherever he was from. He was just a wealthy collector who wanted to show off an exotic piece of gear the way he showed off his car collection. I can only imagine how much that amp is worth today. The reason Dumble's feel so responsive is because when Howard designed the amps he worked very closely with the professional players for whom he was building the amps. He wanted to create amps that complimented their playing style. He only made about three hundred amps.
Awesome I heard u do a roy Buchanan tribute. Was that a. Dumble ?? It sounded great. I saw roy live over 100 times and Danny gatton. If they were alive today they would be loving the new amps. I think they both had trouble finding a great sound. Back then not many options it was always hit or miss. No great pedals. To tame a wild amp.
I wish there was something we could do to get this Builder back on his feet. This thing sounds amazing. People like this deserve to have their tone heard worldwide.
Amp sounds great! I talked to Dumble on the phone in 1987 - he sent me a Spec Sheet and Order Form - and a Price List. An ODS Combo then was just $2150. I was just out of college, and in debt. But, recently I got the Warm Audio Warmdrive, and it sounds great! It captures the Dumble tone very, very well. I have tried a couple Dumbles over the years, and this pedal gets me there at the fraction of the cost for an amp. Am older now, and can’t afford expensive amps.
Nice stuff man. I have Ceriatone Overtone Special (2007) OTS. I got it several years ago together with the Klein-Later pedal. Klein later is a Dumble later clone of the buffer effects loop. The sustain and the creaminess of the overdrives are insane. I love it. Thx for sharing. You are a great guitar player. I love what you do that Telly. Cheers.
It sounds really great! my only complaint is - just slow down a bit man! lol it's sort of hard to capture the tone of the amp when you're playing a million notes a second. You play great, some more thought out slower phrases would have been really nice to hear with this amp to hear the single note bloom a bit more. I have an ods and they really love that. Sounds great though and props to the builder
Wow that's great you got a Dumble clone for such a good price. Seeing as how it's also unattainable like a real Dumble, might as well blue ball the rest of us poor Dumble sound enthusiasts like a real Dumble owner.
This could turn into a great crowdfunded endeavor of sorts. IF there is anyone relatively local to the builder that could help get him back into a shop, taking orders and building there's a tremendous amount of tone-seekers with cash looking to scratch itches that only a custom builder can reach. Lots of newer players in the past few years, many with the money to spend on quality gear, even if it never leaves their homes. Likely needs to start with some donated space to provide as the foundation of a workshop.
I love that idea and was hoping for something like that too for @amplifierExploder it'd be so cool to have the player community help him get back on his feet and build some more amps. I fall in love with it more and more everyday.

I played both many times. They both sounded great. One was a little more gainy and the other more harmonically rich. I was in the higher gain Eddie Van Halen stuff at the time still am, but I also like complex more dynamic all mid gain and low gain sounds. The thing I noticed about the Dumbles was there clarity. The feeling under the fingers is not like anything else, playable with ease, and there was no constraints between your fingers and the speaker. That is truly the only way I can describe it it’s not something that’s easy to describe unless you play it. That forever changed me. Hey Tommy, the amp is a one-off build by a builder named @amplifierExploder on RUclips, he has commented below on the details about the amp. The name plate is just something I did for fun it says Nelmore which is a fake brand based on my name Neil Morrison. I've used it ever since I started making my own guitars, boats, pedal boards etc.
Ok, sounds good, but I don’t think it’s any “better” than others Dumble clones such Bludotone, Two-Rock, Ceriatone, Amplified Nation, Fuchs, etc… That’s probably using very similar circuits and components. It’s just cheaper because it was done by just one not famous guy. We all know that the cost of a Two-Rock, Amplified Nation and else are not in the $4k or $5k price range. There are maybe for $1k of material at best, even with awesome components. What we pay is the extra for quality of assembly, guarantee, and the tone they spent time to develop. So it’s perfectly possible for an independent builder to get similar result for a cheaper price…. But it doesn’t mean it’s any “better”. It’s all subjective… just like $250k Dumble are not “better” than clones. Each amp is different and have their own tone. Maybe some will speak to you, some won’t… but at this level of quality, it’s not a question of being “better” or not. It’s like saying that a Custom Shop Les Paul is “better” than a Cusotm Shop Strat, or Private Stock PRS, or any high-end guitar of your choice. At this level, they’re all good. Just pick your poison. I have Two-Rock amps and I love them and plan to add the TS1 to the collection, even though its price is probably 3 times this amp. Is it 3 times better? Absolutely not… it’s probably just about the same. I just like Two-Rock business and I love their products, so I want to support them by buying their amps. And I’m fine if someone doesn’t and prefer any other builder. That’s the magical thing with free market. We’re all free to buy whatever we like the best…
Your amp is awesome. I can’t speak about Dumbles….but the blackface Tremolux’s have striking sonic similarities. Even tho they are appreciating rapidly…an original can still be found for appreciably less than a Dumble.
Sounds like any other amp, dumble is hyped up like much guitar gear in general. A Fender super reverb sounds better. If it wasn't for SRV I don't think Dumble would have been known very much. He used it because he could play ridiculously loud without breaking up. I saw SRV live, so I know how loud he played. He also used Fender and Marshall amps. And his tone didn't change that much!
In person, the amp is unbelievable. Hard to pickup the true glory on an iPhone camera. I've played a lot of super reverbs and this thing just feels better. But obviously an overdrive special is based on a fender circuit so there are similarities. And I agree that a lot of tone is in the fingers. I listened to Robben Ford play through a Bogner Shiva once at a guitar shop and he stilled sounded like Robben. I think the thing with the Dumble style amps is this combination of the overdrive still feeling and sounding like there's clean tone coming through it. You still get the snap, pop, glass and dynamics of the clean with this responsive sultry overdrive. For me it was Robben Ford and David Lindley that exposed me to that dumble sound. It wasn't until years later I found out that SRV players a Steel String Singer; which you're right is very clean and loud and you have to crank it for any breakup. This amp I have has the best feeling and dynamic response of any amp I own and have every owned, including vintage Super Reverbs and Marshall Plexis. I wish you could feel this thing and I wish I could capture it better for you. But I agree the pricing and snake oil of dumbles is a bit out of control. I'd rather buy a house and a dumble replica.. well maybe :) Thanks for watching
You say you overdo it regarding John Mayer having 16 Dumbles, but I heard from another youtube that listed them, and I think he mentioned JM had 14 Dumbles… so maybe even more from now. So you don’t overdo it that much I think ;)
For $1600 it's a great amp. But, if you think that amp measures up to a Two Rock, Welegen, or even a Ceriatone, you're dreaming and too influenced by the low price.
I've owned some of the best and most expensive two-rocks and they do not sound as good as this amp. Use your ears not your eyes. Two-Rock do not even use the best quality parts in their amps, not by a long shot. This also sounds way better than most Ceriatone's I've ever heard. Don't think we were even watching the same video, but you're totally incorrect.
@@jamesemerson4102 Is this a joke? You're either a dummy or a liar. I don't believe that you've owned or played any Two Rocks if that is your opinion. Why would Ceriatone clone a Two Rock if they don't sound good? Have you ever been inside a Ceriatone? I have. Steel chassis. Why, if Dumble never used one in an ODS? Because it's a few bucks cheaper. Heavier and cheaper. Some good parts, but a lot of mediocre parts. I bought a kit and had to switch out half of the parts. The transformers were great, but that's about it. I still have that amp and like it, but it pales in comparison to my Two Rock amps. Do you know that Nik consulted with Bill Krinard years ago to get tips on building Dumble style amps?
@@jamesemerson4102 Dude, you're lying. There is no way that you've owned "the most expensive two rocks" if you think that this amp measures up. Also, Two Rock uses a lot of proprietary parts so what makes you think that the parts are not high quality? They are very high quality. Do you know who designed their transformers? Of course not. Why are they not the best quality. It just confirms that you've never been inside a two rock with puts the lie to your claim about owning "the most expensive." All of the Two Rock artists, and there are many present and in the past, do not agree with you. You're basically a liar who probably cannot play a lick on guitar.
Thanks for watching. I'm working on some more as we speak. In fact I am launching my debut blues album here soon too. Any videos or topics you'd like to see?
I was just sharing how pleased I was with the amp. That's all, it's not really a sales pitch because the builder only built one of them. I was just trying to support the builder and maybe try to help him get some interest in case he gets a shop going again at some point. Either way, thanks for watching the video and I hope you at least enjoyed the amp and or the playing.

I need this in my life!!! It destroys the two rock amp, or any other clone I heard so far.
It really is an amazing amp, I fall deeper in love with it every time I play it.
I love how the notes just bloom when you hit a chord and let it ring out.
Me too!
Ceriatone is an amazing amp at a great price.
where can we contact this builder?
@@levigonzalez2498 I believe his business is now called blue ridge audio
@@neilmorrisonofficial Have you actually played or compared it to ceritone amps? if so which one specifically?
what is the name of the amp - the Crazy writing on the front looks like - Melmade - Melmoke ? - what is it ??
Do a search for Blue Ridge Audio. He is a one-off amp maker and so cool! The name on the front is something I added, it says "Nelmore" which is just a fun little brand I came up with from my name
The secret is the built in Loop.. Dumbles in general all sound better with the Dumbleator !
hi very very good-sounding amp indeed, do you know if the guy builds/sells other amps like that?
Thanks so much, I'm not too sure. I think he has built some other amps but it's more of a hobby for him than an actual company. @amplifierExploder is the builder's name.
@@neilmorrisonofficial Thanks a lot Neil !
Sounds amazing. Can I ask how high the drive setting is on the overdrive channel?
Thank you so much, I have the Overdrive and Volume at 7

Jesus man I’m so sorry to hear all of that 😔
Yea that amp sounds great, but holy GOD can you play!!!

That's as close to a Dumble tone as anything I've heard. I tried a Dumble back in '87. This is right in the ballpark.
Whats the name of the builder how can he be reached?

Fantastic.

Hey everyone ,we can't buy Dumbles , or This amp ,but the good news is , the Unobtainable pedal by Crazy Tube Circuits is Great!!
Just stumbled onto this: nice demonstration. I'm curious: do you try to showcase smaller builders, or what exactly is your niche? If so, I'd like to have a discussion at your convenience, please.

what is the clone amplifier brand that your touting in this video? are they still available thanks?
Have you tried the VHT D50? $1000 hardwired clone - new

Does anyone know the name on the amp or the maker? How I can get one?
What's the amp called. Nelmake, Nelmoke Nelmore? You never mentioned the amp company? Hard to read logo.
@@neilmorrisonofficial Thank you! Sounds great
where can I find one?
Incredible. I need one, Like NOW
I know right!!
Peavey classic 30 has a similar glassiness.
I played through a modded one a few years ago, it was super glassy. I actually loved that amp
Doesnt matter how good the video is, the title is clickbait and people will skip.
So is this the ODS version or HRM?
Hey Rogie, this is the Overdrive Special 100 Watt with HRM Circuit with 6L6 tubes
How do I get one of these amps?????
@amplifierexploder is the builder he's chimed in on a few of the comments and is starting to get his shop put back together
Your amp is awesome. I can’t speak about Dumbles….but the blackface Tremolux’s have striking sonic similarities. Even tho they are appreciating rapidly…an original can still be found for appreciably less than a Dumble.
Thanks for listening, and thanks for the tip! I'll have to check those out.
@@neilmorrisonofficial This is guitar tone: ruclips.net/video/4h_iujpSUqA/видео.html
Sounds okay.
It's better in person. It's just recorded with an Iphone. Hard to capture the glory on computer speakers. But thanks for watching
He lowballed me on reverb when I had car trouble and took the offer. He got a great price. The amp can hold its own with the best of the best.

A lot of the 50 watt heads and combos have a half power option
Good amp but not as good as a Two Rock in my opinion.
Name?
This whole this whole thread sounds like a sales pitch..... Sorry just saying... P
I was just sharing how pleased I was with the amp. That's all, it's not really a sales pitch because the builder only built one of them. If you read the comments you can see that builder is struggling from some tough times and no longer has a shop to build. I was just trying to support the builder and maybe try to help him get some interest in case he gets a shop going again at some point. Either way, thanks for watching the video and I hope you at least enjoyed the amp and or the playing.

What happened to his hair?
Really dude? You watch a video and of all the things you choose to comment on is someone's physical appearance? The amp is so awesome that it electrified my hair. But.... what if I fought cancer several years ago and lost all my hair through chemotherapy and once I beat it and stopped treatment it grew back weaker, thinner and discolored and this was the best way I could style my hair where I felt confident enough to make a video of my greatest love and passion and try to share it with people. You don't know what people are going through.
Goddamn it if you could only slow down a touch you'd be way better..
