    Great info! I've never looked into using the flowers before, either.

    My mom is always telling me to drink elderflower syrup, so this is super helpful to get the info behind what benefits they provide!

    Thanks for sharing Anja! My 5 elderberry plants are blooming right now. I had no idea you could use the blooms. We love to make elderberry jelly and syrup and I am hoping to make a medicinal syrup this summer, but never thought of using the flowers. Now I am off to research more!

    Thanks for the info, Anja! I never thought about using the flowers, too! We make our own elderberry syrup to stay healthy during cold and flu season. And you're right, people are VERY protective about their source for these valuable berries. I need to plant these bushes ASAP.
    I grew up in NorCal ... the Sierra foothills. Loved skiing at Kirkwood as a kid. :)

      Nice, Lourdes! You can find dried elderflowers in many good herb stores or at Mountain Rose herbs. Happy making 💛 ~ Anja

    Do you know the way of elderberry cuttage? I've had this now, but I'm not sure if it was a right way for elderberry and will go well.. some of them have gone already, but it was smaller one and not lively that much, i think. Now, Im laying them at the porch outside where they can avoid direct sunlight.

      Hoping I understand your question right: I would cut them right above the clusters of flowers and use them quickly as they will turn brown. Good luck!

    I have a question. I can see some kinds of elderflower, such as normal one, yellow leaf, narrow leaf and narrow black leaf. these have same flower and berries? any difference of them?

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  5 лет назад +1

      That's a great question! The variety that grows in our area is Sambucus nigra. You may want to verify what varieties grow in your area and if they are safe for consumption. I would assume they are all good but please double-check! This might be a good starting point: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambucus

    Aren't the elderberry flowers toxic?

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  3 года назад +1

      Depending on who you ask, the flowers and berries of the elder bush are mildly toxic. You should never eat the leave, stems, or bark. However, if you cook the berries or flowers, they are perfectly fine to consume. Elderflower tea is a popular remedy for colds. Hope this helps 😊 ~ Anja

      Yes, this tea can be good for anything with your lungs. I suggest you try this for a while, maybe drinking 2-3 cups/day and see how it makes you feel. And please remember that I am not a medical professional and I cannot give you medical advice. Hope this helps 💛 ~ Anja
