  • This film was originally done using a cine camera in 1982
due to the film not being transferred to VHS Tape until the 1990's there is some deterioration to the sound and picture, but take that into consideration it is a marvellous piece of history

My Grandmother came from Cherry Garden Pier my father would often visit. Knowing Rotherhithe very well how it has changed. Thank you for posting. My Grandmothers name was Pritchard. she and my Aunt Edwina were killed in 1944 by a V2 rocket.

Thanks for this Michael - I enjoyed it a lot. I believe you went to St Pauls/Marys school. I think my brother was in your year.

Live on Rotherhithe street, thanks for this. Agree with other comment, the music was not needed, but what a joy to see the area as it was.

I've long been wondering about a small point about the Byfield organ at St. Mary's. in the early 1800s, say around 1830, where would the bellows "boy" have pumped the air into the organ? Have read a couple books where the organ is described and have the booklet St. Mary's has published, but no one mentions this. I'm trying to get a picture of the organ being used in a service around then, and this is the missing piece.
    If you can help, thanks!
