It took me a bit to learn all of it. The information was not easily found, nor was it easy to read. That was one of my motivations for posted all of those videos. But I think I can do a good beginner lighting video, and I may do so soon. I have an SD Gundam that is just begging for lighting, and it would be a good demo piece.
Don't let the lighting get to you man. Have a look around YT for some LED lighting vids. There's a lot out there and once you get into it you'll find it to be fairly simple. BadGrendels channel is a good place to start.
Instead of using a 9 volt battery. You could use a button size battery or two AA battery without a resistor up to three LEDs. Or you could use 1.8 led and still use a button size or two AA batteries.
Although I'm new to model building, my dad bought me this kit as a Christmas gift because we thought it would be a neat project we could do together, but reading through the instructions, I noticed it said to use only "styrene compliant" paint/gloss. Since I know nothing about paint/gloss, I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on what paints are OK to use and what colors you might suggest for a fresh-out-of-the-factory feel.
MAN this would make a sweeet hood ornament, with extra sweetness provided by the Knight Rider KITT effect in the visor.
Cool Frank. It's a really nice kit and should look awesome sitting on anyone's shelf.
Very nice, the LED looks great
Your circuit and lighting tutorials are always very helpful John.
I want to learn more about the timer chips etc that you demo.
that visor came out really awesome!
You're off to an excellent start Boyd!
very cool,I thought of dabbling in sci-fi kit but the lighting intimidates me.
I use Spies Hecker acrylic urethane. I mostly mix my own colors.
Just ordered one of these from Megahobby today. My first "figure" build. Taking notes here...

What paints did you use? I really like the look of the eye, it works perfectly for a static model.
No moving led?
This kind of lighting shouldn't. Maybe I should make a quick simple video on it?
