My father in law was dying of cancer at the time this series played on TV. He was a farmer and always thought he was born 150 years too late. We watched Lonesome Dove together and it transported him away from his sickroom and into the west almost as if the pain of the cancer receded just to let him enjoy the show. After he died I’ve found it very hard to watch Lonesome Dove without reliving some of the last times we spent together. Mixed emotions of happy and sad.
