I actually never knew you had to lower the ingame resolution. That makes sense why I wasn't seeing any difference haha. Great tutorial, thanks a bunch!
Holy crap, this made a HUGE difference in ps2 emulation. 2x native with FSR enabled at max sharpness makes the game look more like 4x resolution. Thanks!
Something to add: on certain games you'll also need to switch the window mode. I tried the steps you've outlined here on Ion Land's Cloudpunk, but FSR wouldn't active until I switched the window from Fullscreen to Borderless Window. Whereas in your video, I noticed it doesn't seem to matter which mode Elden Ring is in, it'll just work. Something to keep in mind if FidelityFX won't kick in.
I use FSR 2.0 in Red dead redemtion 2 together with the Steam OS FSR and its amazing. The game looks way less blurry when you use it together with the Steam OS FSR
This may seem obvious to most people, but to be clear, only use FSR if you aren't already getting a solid 40-60fps from your game in native 1280x800 on the Steam Deck. A native picture is going to be superior and artifact-free, whereas FSR can introduce some visual defects, some less noticeable than others. I would be curious to know how much FSR affects battery life versus Native resolution though, and whether there are any major bumps or benefits there, even if you're getting an ideal framerate.
i disagree, I use in almost all games with 60FPS the resolution 1152x720 with FSR and the games look much more less blurry and more clear with that instead of 1280x800
IM PLAYING GOD OF WAR AND TITANFALL 2 ON MY STEAM DECK AND LOVING IT IF YOU GUYS WANT TO PLAY WITH ME ON MULTIPLAYER LET'S DO IT A LOT OF PEOPLE SEEM TO BE HAVING TROUBLE USING THE FSR FEATURE SO NICE VIDEO
Isnt fsr supposed to upscale from 720p to 1080p because every time i use fsr it looks like blurry garbage with ps2 sharpening black outline around everything
I'm late to the party but if you force 1080p resolution then do all the following steps you can use OS FSR to upscale to 1080p/4k ( you lose fps but looks great)
Elden Ring has almost no performance change with FSR because their performance bottlenecks are in the code not the hardware. You get like 3 or 4 FPS at best. But in a lot of other games you can get a massive performance boost. In Path of Exile I get as much as 50% (60fps) increase, shooting from 120 to 180 fps. Not that it matters since the screen is only 60hz. But that's just an example of it working.
Uea Elden ring just refuses to give frames lol. But was a good example for using decks fsr when the game doesn’t have it built in. Fsr2.0 is doing great as well in games. Cant wait to see it used more.
Really is cpu limited Even with fsr 540p the jump in fps is minimal from 800p, Zen2 likely be the culprit here Here's to hoping zen4 rdna3 APU coming for steamdeck 2 be atleast similar to 12100f+6500XT🥂
Yea this games isnt great for gaining performance with fsr but it served its purpose tp show how it works and how to use it. Ive been reading about the next apu from AMD for the steam deck amd its gonna be a beast. It probably wont release till fall 2023- spring 2024.
Hey bud forgive the ignorance but regarding the process for FSR scaling, do i lower the resolution in the steam perfomance menu as well as in game? Or just one or the other? I dont think i have any games with built in FSR scaling but i would like to clearly understand the difference between what the settings in the steam menu do vs anything id find in-game yaknow? Regardless great video and thank you
I have the problem that the Steam FSR doesn't always turn on. I follow all the steps, sometimes it turns on, sometimes it doesn't. I reduced the resolution, window mode on/off, reduced the resolution in the Steam OS, but it only switches on sporadically. Is there a solution for this?
Hi, I also have a steam deck oled but when I try to turn the resolution down like below 720p and in the window mode as well as fsr filter switch on. But my fsr does not written as on at all. Could you let me know why doesnt it work?
Ok I will try to explain as it's confusing. To turn on FSR in elden ring you have start your game set resolution to 1280x800p full screen, go to Steam OS FSR turn it on, close the game, go to general settings of elden ring in steam force a 1080p resolution, turn the game back on lower your resolution to 1024x576 switch from full screen to borderless window FSR should now be on, now go back to full screen mode select 1280x720p resolution and you are now using FSR to upscale properly (there is a chance this is up scaling to 1080p if you have worse performance lower the forced resolution and repeat the steps) , idk why it's suck a game to get it to work, steam OS FSR can be tricky cyberpunk won't turn it on until you toggle hdr many games have one weird thing that will make it work, good luck hope it helps.
No. In game fsr does all that automatically. Your resolution the game is set to becomes the target upscaled resolution. Only manually lower resolution if the game has no fsr and you are using the built in deck fsr option
Considering that it requires at least some processing power, yes it will run worse than lower resolution without it. But the FSR algorithm is tuned pretty darn optimally so you will only see a negligible difference of slower performance while getting a massive visual boost. That's been my experience with it.
The performance overlay built into steam deck? Your quick access 3 dot button and go to battery icon where performance options are and u can adjust 0-4 for your overlay
Had the same problem with Cloudpunk, apparently FSR won't kick in for some games until you adjust the Window Mode setting, too.Try adjusting that from Fullscreen to Borderless Window and see if that don't help any.

its very clever that they implemented it like this.

The probis deck onboard fsr is fsr1 and it’s horrible. Also its not just 720 to 1080 its all types of resolution. For instance 540p to 800p on deck

More frames aren't irrelevant because it reduces input latency
