It cost NYC $4 million. Lol. WM has been supplying them for years and years. They act like this is a whole new concept. Innovative rolling garbage cans. Wow.
Now after few pick ups and the sanitation staff tossing them to the floor they will have broken wheels...has always been the case....talk about wasting city money
I was thinking the same thing. But then I realized that it really is a new thing to NYC. Normally a large dumpster is shared or they just put bags on the curb
@@jinsu0504 yea I was thinking the same. My grandparents and parents have been putting out bins since I can remember but sanitation always just tosses them so they break. The majority of the homeowners in our neighborhood use bins instead of bags.
have you been to nyc? There are trash bins here. Where do you think private homes and apartment buildings put their garbage before garbage day? In bins! Some homeowners and landlords just opt to put the bags out instead of pulling the bins because sanitation workers just toss them after and they break.
there are trash bins in nyc. The only changes here is that NYorkers have to use these the city bins with wheels instead of the regular ones that we already have. Where do you think thrash bags are put before garbage day? In garbage bins!
I appreciate the efforts but those bins are too small for multi family. If we already have trash bins with lids, we should not be penalized in 2026 and be forced to buy new ones. More money for us to spend on. Not everyone can afford to buy new trash bins.
Question___ I live on a street where cars are parked tightly in front of my house, as most streets are like this in NYC. So I question whether these bins will have enough clearance for the workers to roll it out to the street. I don't know if they thought this through. We are going to end up having to use big garbage bags like now to put in the bins and then the workers would have to pull them out to throw in the back of the truck manually like now.
She described the problem perfectly - sidewalks lined with huge mounds of oozing trash, but in some neighborhoods, there are thousands of people who never understand sanitation and recycling requirements, no matter how many times you inform them, therefore, the bin requirement will cause exposure of sanitation workers to a rancid "ooze shower" on every route.
Where should my 81 year old father keep these inside of a building that was built in 1920's put these? There is no place inside for these. Can we tie this up to a bike rack to keep it from being stolen?
I pay $16 a month for 1 recycling and 1 regular rolling g-can. The county pays for the recycling and no fines. Why don't you take out the real trash, the i.i.s.
I won't how much cut they get for this rule. Adam gets1,2,3% of the sales $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. These trash cans cost $$$. People will be stealing them just like the car converter. $50 times 10 million, plus the right to issue more tickets. How is the city in deficit? Why are New Yorkers paying one of the most taxes in the country.
So all building with 9 or more units can still just use trash bags. That is most of the island of Manhattan. Not to mention that most of the city live in the larger apartments. This is just a cash grab from home owners and small building owners.
IT'S NOT LAW YET. You have a say in this. Vote no on proposition 2 on the ballot This proposal would amend the City Charter to expand and clarify the Department of Sanitation’s power to clean streets and other City property and require disposal of waste in containers. The ACLU reccomends voting NO on propositions 2 to 6. Yes on proposition 1
I just feel like this idea is wrong for the reason that how are the sanitation workers sopost to squeeze them between the parked car's. This idea would maybe only work with slim garbage cans.
If they don’t have mental lining or plates they are worthless. Rats and rodents have sharp teeth that threw through plastic. They act like rats carry keys 🤦🏽♂️
Oh wow thats crazy. Keep up with the times New York.. omg. Like wow.. over twenty years weve had trassh cans then bins. Thats crazy that your now just getting them. Do t they selk them like at hone depot or lowes. Wierd.
Since the city will be making money off these bins can you also tell your sanitation workers not to throw the bins around breaking the top and/or since they all look the same throw them in our neighbors’ yard. That’s 150$ for the three, can you give us debit cards like you give out free money to non taxpayers asking for my neighbor
What will happen during snow storms or other emergencies when sanitaion can not up garbage and compost for a week or more. Will people be allowed to use black bags for garbage and compost in those situations ??? Does DSNY have a plan for that? May be good to keep some bags on hand for those times. Also if food and soiled paper is in compost bin then there should be nothing in garbage that rats would eat in garbage so why the need to use containers instead of bags?
Are we supposed to buy them every time they get stolen from my home, cause this has happened serval times in my neighborhood? This is a shame cause other states provide you these garbage bins for free.
Several times ??? Where the hell do you live..???....I'm living in my hood 25yrs...nobody ever stole my garbage bin....think it's time for you to move to a better neighborhood 😮
What... They do not have trash cans. What!!! No thats crazy. Omg. What. We' ve in Oregon has akways had them.. What. This us crazy. How did New Yorkers ger rid of there trash before. Here the bins come with trash service but if you dont pay your bill they take them away.
Is this a new strategy from major/governor to get funding to support the immigrants. What is his next plan to get funds (Congestion Pricing). If the major/governor prioritize the funds (not on illegal immigrants), this wouldn't happen. The street will be a lot cleaner; crimes wouldn't be that high.

NYC just 40 years late using trash bins vs. all other cities in America...
@john_wick1 When I was a kid, they were used. The old tin ones. Which were probably would be better than the new plastic ones.

Amazingly, the sanitation workers leave the pails in the street and don't put them back on the sidewalk.
Exactly. Will the homeonwer/building owner need to buy a new one when these are stolen/damaged by others?
People gonna start stealing the cans
