I like your straightforward approach, and like the Apoxie Sculpt for attaching stones to the base. But, I think the 10 square inches per amp is wrong. It's more like 100 mA of current per square inch of surface area: if your ring (or whatever you are electroforming) has a surface area of 2 inches, the amperage should eventually be 0.200 (on rectifier) or 200 mA.
2 volts should be enough for electroforming, and higher voltage doesn't make for good results.
One thing I found to work as a great anode is copper grounding wire from the electrical department of the hardware store. It is approximately 6 gauge, and it lasts through several electroformings. It needs to be rinsed off after each use, and the oxidation can be cleaned off with a wire brush. The anode wire produces better results if you start without oxidation (shiny wire).
Looking forward to seeing more of your creations!

Thanks, this was a nice quick video to get the idea of what electroforming is. Also, I believe patina is pronounced like "pat-teen-a", at least thats how people say it in my jewelry class.

I have a couple questions for you if u wudnt mind I’d really appreciate it!!!! First, i bought the protecta seal that u recommend, when do i se the crystals? Before i bathe in the electroform solution or before the patina dip? Also how long do u leave in the patina for ?

I know this video is old but this is my first time watching never done this before so I have a few questions. 1 How long can I leave the solution in the jar/how many reuses do I have? Can I do more that one ring or piece St a time? Also how would I adjust amps to suit more that one piece at a time? I really appreciate this video it's a great starting point for me. I really hope you see this and are able to respond thanks either way. 🤗

    Good vid.
I personally optain much better results using copper conductive paint than with a graphite one. but also i am only coating plastic objects. mainly ABS. only drawback is you cant see the coat building up that good.
my brand is using a super fast evaporating solvent. usually i do only one coat. Best option for this is probably the silver paint.. but also the most expensive.
For you crystal problem.. just add a bit distilled water and boil it some time. the cristals will dissolve again. Filter it and the solution is new again.

I was just getting ready to write the correct pronunciation and I saw your. When someone mispronounces a word you should tell them how it should be pronounced. It is not admonishment but being helpful so the person will say it correctly and they should not be insulted but happy that they now correctly know how to say the word. An intelligent person would want that.

I'm having trouble getting my electroform shiny. Any tips?

    • @SweetCheekZ
      @SweetCheekZ  6 лет назад

Hi Brooke! I've noticed a few factors contributing to how shiny the copper turns out:
1)Always buff the copper once it starts to look dull after use.
2)You can add in a brightener to your solution to give your copper an extra shine--
      www.riogrande.com/Product/Midas-Replenishing-Brightener-for-Electroforming-Copper/335065
      3) When the temperature is around 80-90 degrees, I seem to produce the shiniest and and most solid pieces. My pieces turn out really dull and bumpy during wintertime, which is I pretty much stop my electroforming.
      Hope this helps!
