I skipped 12 after 11 until v 12.1 was released, this is the only good explanation I’ve seen so far, looking forward to what comes next. So far, my only gripe is a bit of shimmering on the trees but I can live with it!
Thank you very much! And I'm sure you'll like 12.1. It's a brilliant update and still in beta so should still get fixes and improvements. Yes I've noticed the shimmering on trees too at times but it's subtle enough to be able to ignore haha. Glad you liked the video! :)
Good to see that XPlane is still being updated. What it needs the most is something like a dynamic ortho injector, so you don't have to download all these textures ahead of time. Another thing that makes MSFS look as nice as it does is the grass. Xplane does have nice 3d trees, but now it also needs grass. I think you only have to look for green ground textures, and have the grass grow there. That's what MSFS seems to do anyway. And while we're talking improvements: i couldn't help notice that lightning still needs some work too. Maybe they could apply the bloom effect to it, and have the surrounding clouds light up (IE make lightning an actual light source)or a more dramatic effect. Xplane is already ahead of the game when it comes to phsysics (even if that belly landing to demonstrate the particle effects gave me second thoughts for a minute), and as long as they keep refining those, it should be fine. Of course MSFS 2024 is looming on the horizon as well. I hope Austin and friends just keep doing their thing though, because that's what they're best at :)
Yes some sort of autoortho like addition into default X-Plane would be amazing but may have licensing issues with the actual imagery. Bloom has been implemented in 12.1 and looks really nice, just needs some tweaking as you said. Grass would also be brilliant and a nice addition :) Thank you for your respectful comment. I'm also looking forward to MSFS2024 :) exciting times for flight sim ahead!
Msfs looks weird. i almost never use civil sims anymore, just DCS. I have both xp12 and msfs and xp12 looks and feels better specially with auto ortho. When you fly low alt the buildings in msfs looks like dissolving milk cartons.
@@DrishalMAC2 IT's not very good at low altitudes, but from say 500 feet and higher it looks really convincing. You're looking at a 3d model of an actual city, instead of a 'plausible' one where everything is lined up to roads and everything is just generic. So while photogrammetry is not perfect, I do think it's a stepping stone that will eventually bring us closer to realism. Especially mountains and rock formations look awesome in photogrammetry. Just take a nice flight along the coast of spain anlong some photogrammetry areas in MSFS and you'll see what I mean. There's no chance you'll experience anything close to it in XPlane 12 (as cool of a sim it may be).
@payt01 yes I agree, photogrammetry would be great and I believe someone has done it using a third party mod. MSFS visuals are indeed unparalleled but X-Plane is slowly getting there haha. And for me the systems modelling and flight model in X-Plane is what keeps me there :)
