You can use a sewing machine without thread to poke the holes as well.

These are so delicate and beautiful!! I think I might leave a loop of doubled over thread for the Stem of the leaf, to make it easier to attach a metal loop for using as jewelry pendant or earrings. I was thinking you would put it in water to remove the paper, but this way you can reuse the cardboard.

You could do snowflakes and use them for holiday ornaments too :)

Oooh clever! I wonder if you could do this on thin paper and go over and over with a sewing machine round and round....then tear the paper off the backs? I'm going to try I think!
I buy lots of individual miniature flowers like these, lacy appliqué type things or crochet ones....like the daisy type sewing trims that you can snip individual ones off of....and glue them on papercraft or sewing projects as embellishments. But with this idea....(and possibly if my idea works too)...I could make my own in different colours and sizes and shapes and thicknesses of threads!
Kinda cool to see a brand new decoration idea! One I've never seen before! I watch a ton of crafting videos, and to be honest a lot of them are just remaking ideas I've seen to death already! I needed to see something fresh and inspiring to get me feeling creative again! These will be cool in so many ways to use them, cards, journals, mixed media collage, even appliqués on sewing projects! 😘😘😘

Instead of thin paper you can use water soluble interfacing. Put it on a small embroidery hoop, drop the feed dogs on your sewing machine and do free form embroidery, then just wash away the interfacing.

@@scootermom1791 I know this comment's old, but in case you haven't had an answer - it's called needle-lace, and the best tutorial I ever found was from Michael Dennis. Hope that helps.
@@Elfdaughter Hi! Thank you for your help! I actually read a comment about it the other day, ironically, from someone who said this craft reminded her of needle lace, which I had never heard of before. She said she hadn't seen it turned into 3D stand alone objects like this before, though.
Anyway, I looked up a few videos about needle lace, and while this does resemble it, I actually couldn't find any other tutorials where they applied the craft to create objects such as the ones from this channel. I didn't come across the guy you mentioned, though, so I'll check his tutorials out as well.

I first learned how to do this about 7 years ago, and back then there wasn't much in the way of tutorials.

I have never seen this before, what a great creative idea! The leaves were actually my second try, i started with a christmas tree. Made a pattern from a cone it and used the cone to stiffen the shape after making it. Angel wings come to mind and wind twirlers and jewelry and ... oh my what a world of creativity you have opened up for us!

I was SO SURPRISED by the end--hairspray and cutting the back threads! I expected to have to soak the paper in water to dissolve it and gently rub it out of the threads. This is much easier, but wouldn't it leave little ends sticking off the back at each point? Won't that make the leaf fuzzy on the back?
And the hairspray was a huge surprise too -- I expected a big process to starch it.
Strong hairspray proved to be the most convenient for such work. It holds its shape, and the craft is easily separated from cardboard or fabric. I have not tried it with starch, but I think it should work too 😉
