One of the reasons I love Robin Mattison. She put so much work and care into redeeming Janet, only for the writers to completely demolish it by bringing back Kate Collins years later.
This was some of McTavish's most lazy, plot-driven work ever. First, Pine Valley hospital & Joe Martin colluding to cover up that Brooke went on the run... and then this, these pictures, which miraculously persuaded a jury to find Brooke not guilty for murdering Jim (whom she shot in the back as he walked AWAY) - would later turn out to be manufactured evidence courtesy of Tad. SO much out-of-character writing for everyone I just mentioned, all in the name of an underwhelming, anti-climactic storyline. Sure, McTavish would go on to do worse to AMC a few years later - but after this mercifully short year-long return stint that was such a clusterfrick - why on earth did ABC ever consider bringing her back to AMC?
I agree! 1) the Brooke we know would never have handled Jim on her own. She would have coordinated with the police. 2) Since she did opt to circumvent the police and then shot Jim in the back out of irrational fear, the old Brooke would have chastised herself and wanted to take the blame. 3) the story would have been a lot more interesting if she did get convicted. 4) I could go on and on, LOL. Every one in this storyline was acting out of character, except maybe Dimitri.
McTavish was just a accident waiting to happen! Her and Ron Carv or whatever his last name is should never write for a soap or a prime time show. And they went to school for this?? I was in school but didn't take the kind of courses that are required to be a headwriter but I sure as hell would've wrote 5x better than those 2 combined!
@@nothingbutsoaps2674 I agree! She steered the show into a pit. Also, I don't think it's solely writing technique or talent that makes a good story line. I really believe the character of the writer themselves comes through in their characters. From the scuttlebutt I've heard, Megan McTavish is arrogant and a bit shallow. She actually knows quite a few effective writing techniques and can be good with dialogue. BUT it never could make up for her lack of overarching compassion for the characters. She always sacrifices character history and motivation for short-term plot gains. Agnes Nixon and Lorraine Broderick had compassion and love for Pine Valley. When you have headwriters like that overseeing a talented writing team- you get gold. Megan couldn't do it. She just doesn't have that in her. She's kind of a petty jerk who yearly got more arrogant and lazy until we got really wonderful actors wading around in unconvincing story lines.
When Janet sees Amanda..... I remember being a kid watching this and I was like BOOM!

Brooke didn't have to kill him. If he'd gone near Amanda, Janet would have served him up like Thanksgiving dinner.
I wish Dimitri and brooke had gotten together
I always loved Alfred Vanderpoole's appearances over the years

Roman Seano I agree. AMC sucked this year. The only story I liked was Trevor and Janet.
