I'm glad Custom Reptiles is giving you this level of support. You totally deserve it! Looking forward to seeing things completed and fully decked out down the line.
Look at that deep V, we could have sold some more legless lizards for Mike if you were wearing that at the expo. The enclosures are looking sweet, great sizes. I can't agree more with the idea of a "small collection that is provided with exceptional care".
I just had a baby and I noticed I had so many people wanted to help me. While I was pregnant and after the birth of my daughter. I was so lucky having all this people in my life. Now that my daughter is 3+ months I notices I slowly getting full force again on my breeding facility. But yeah I noticed it had a bigger impact on my facility then I expected. Congrats on your baby by the way. 👌
Omg, that's the dream. I want to have a small animal room with my Chinese cave gecko (my first reptile) and whatever rodents and fish, all in even bigger enclosures than they're in now. I have two cats so having an animal sanctuary where the cats don't bother anyone is always important. But as someone who's also going to be acquiring some kids in the next few years (congrats on your baby!) I definitely want to have a room full of animals for my future kids to interact with
Wow, that room will look fantastic! The best enclosure I've used is made in the UK by a company called ViperVivs. It's made of polypropelene, in one piece, with a hinged front which has three locks on it. The company makes standard sizes, and also sizes made to order. Being in one piece, transport is expensive, and so I very much doubt that people across the atlantic will be buying them. I use the enclosure for my Brazilian rainbow boa, and it retains humidity brilliantly, and of course will not degrade with the passage of time. I am really looking forward to seeing your setups taking shape.
Dude, this is gonna look awesome! Excited for the next video. Also a big fan of the podcast and very grateful for what you do! Hope I get to be a guest one day!
I'd love to see the process of you constructing the inside of some of your enclosures. I'm always so fascinated by the ideas that people have on how best to do it!
I have thought, since finding your podcast, that Custom Reptile Habitats was such an appropriate sponsor. I'm looking forward to the amazing new background you'll have!
I'm really looking forward to the rainbow boa upgrade. I hope you stick with the pond idea. And out of curiosity (only because I didn't want to scroll through the comments) how did that enclosure work for you?
The enclosure you built for the rainbow boa with the fan and pond. I'd like to kinda make my enclosure the same as yours im currently in preparation mode for a brb just need to get more money
@@Chedderbob0613 ah that enclosure! It worked out perfectly fine, my only complaint is that it was a bit too small. 4 feet long isn’t quite enough space, plus it was only 16 inches tall, which was really annoying 😂
I have no idea about their availability outside of europe, but I use the HabiStat range of enclosures here in the UK :) definitely worth checking out if you can get them
You are so lucky in North America! In Europe it's almost next to impossible to find PVC enclosures.... you almost only get glass ones like ExoTerra etc....
@@AnimalsatHomePodcast Here in the UK vivarium's tend to be made from 18mm thick melamine, with 4mm glass "doors". Even with rising material costs the market is very competitive, and a 6' x 2' x 2' melamine viv is around £250, which given how bad the UK pound is fairing these days that's around $270 USD ($390 CAD).
@@AnimalsatHomePodcast PVC sheeting can be had in the UK (and probably in the EU too) however it's typically sold via sheet material suppliers in large 8' x 4' sheets and compared to melamine is a lot more expensive. There was one company in the UK (run by the same company behind Wrigglies based in Dunstable) who made vivs from textured PVC which looked like normal wood panels, but have no idea if they still make them or what the pricing is. Last I heard was they focused on providing a service to reptile shops fitting out with new enclosures
@@MalcolmCrabbe over here the only PVC I could find are Herptek. Very efficient but very expensive and immensely in my own opinion. I'm currently trying to find a pvc enclosure for my juvenile caulker cay BCI but it seems I'll have to stay on glass because melamine has a lot of cons...
@@AnimalsatHomePodcast just asking, me and my parents moved recently to the countryside for space so we could have chickens(I have more reptiles 'cause birds are reptiles) and a potbelly pig or two.
While I'm in a tiny apt w/no room, so you know I'm not asking for me...BUT, couldn't you find some kids you know to give the salvageable cages to? Kids of other keepers, neighbors, etc? What a great introductory package, for some kid who's been dreaming...
Oh yes, definitely! Once all the animals are in their new enclosures, I will have a couple left over EXO terra terrarium‘s, as well as a PVC enclosure that I will likely give away. I threw out the long wooden enclosures, though. The camera makes things look better than they are… Those enclosures we’re starting to fall apart, the melomine was swelling and crumbling and I wouldn’t have felt good about somebody using them.
Looks amazing dude. How do you convince your spouse on a reptile room? One day I want to get into a small species and keep it in an 8x3 or 8x4. I love the idea of a small reptile being dwarfed by a huge amount of space around it. But I'm sure my partner would be wary on it lol
Thanks Jason! Oh, that is a good question… Fortunately, my wife is very supportive of me keeping reptiles. Even though she is not keen on them herself, she knows how much I enjoy them, and is happy to allow me to steal a piece of our home for them. I would try and show your partner how important the hobby is to you. Also, I keep my reptile room, very clean and aesthetically pleasing… I have a feeling if the room was messy, she wouldn’t be as excited about it 🤣
Struth.... Whilst they look nice, $900 + $125 for the Acre "upgrade" for a 6' x 2' x 2' viv Plus the cost of the hood,(which seems not to be listed on the website) - I know building materials have risen for one reason or another, but close on $1200 for a vivarium.... ouch ! My only reservations is in large enclosures for strong snakes like Boa's having a clear polycarbonate panel may not be that secure as it could flex, and that glass would be my preferred medium which would be a further $100+. Having said that, there are few companies around that guarantee their products for 10 years - so in the long term over the typical lifespan of a snake that initial outlay may well be worth it. I would be interested to know what thickness the ACRE panels are, they look to be around 6mm or 1/4".
Yes, they are definitely premium enclosures. However, they are right in range with other similar products on the market. certainly an investment though! and Yep, you are correct the acre panelling is 1/4 inch
