Powerfully Sad Words😢 Haunting Song...Even When It First Came Out - I Was Young But This Song Was One Of Several That Stuck With Me During The Year My Brother Served In Vietnam. Because Of The High Security Nature Of His Job There - We Weren't Allowed Communications With Him For Most Of It - Or Allowed To Know If He Was OK, Or...What He Had Become Involved In Or...What We Had To Be Prepared To Hear...All His Mail Came Back To Us - Opened - No Answers - No Clues - NOTHING - For That Entire Year!😭 We Didn't Know He Was Alive Or Where He Had Been Till He - Thankfully - Came Home...The War In Vietnam Left Scars On These Men, On Their Families, On All Who Served There, On The Country, & On The People Of Vietnam That Will Never Fully Heal - THIS CANNOT BE FORGOTTEN! I Hope All Veterans Share What They Know & What They Can Before Departing This World - People DO Care, They D Wan't To Know - And They NEED To Hear! And I Thank Them All For Their Service To Our Country!🙏🇺🇸

Maureen am truly sorry for all the suffering your brother had to go through and still could be. Your family not knowing for a year I was a teenager in the 70s. My brother was in the navy but he didn't go to war they sent him to the navy school. My father fought in the South Pacific Japanese. Right up to the day he passed away. He never talked about it asked him about it. Always the same thing you don't want to know. And once it was I want it out of my head why the f would I put it in yours. After he passed I realized what he was trying to tell me. He drank a lot of beer everyday he always had a beer in his hand. Thank you for the service sacrifice your family and brother give to us all. GOD be with you all

Although I never was in combat I did serve during the cold war from 1976-1979. Two years in Frankfurt, Germany 143rd Signal Battalion 3rd Armored Division, Company B. and one year stateside. I remember we had a 3 year calendar, the day that I would get onto the freebird back to the states seem so long away, I hated Germany, but I do miss the comradery between my brothers in arms. I was young then, I'm soon to be 67 the Good Lord willing, if I had to do it again, the answer would be affirmative, but I would have a different mindset, and I would have probably made it a career and retired at 43 yrs old. This song is so apropos mostly for us in our upper years. God Bless America, and Long live the Republic.

THE WORLD IS A BAD PLACE A SAD PLACE A TERRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE BUT I DON'T WANNA DIE. I'M CHANGING, EVERYTHING AROUND ME. SO IT'S UP TO US TO CHANGE AND MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE AND TO ACHIEVE THAT WE NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR CREATOR AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS AND OBSERVE HIS MESSAGE OF PEACE ON EARTH GOODWILL TO ALL REMEMBERING THAT WE WERE CREATED IN HIS OWN IMAGE{WE LOOK LIKE H.I.M AND HE WANTS US TO BE LIKE HIM. LIVING IN PEACE AND LOVE AND HARMONY THEN WE WOULD TRULY BE ABLE TO PROCLAIM-WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD. ALL IT TAKES IS THE DESIRE AND THOSE OF US WHO WANT IT NEED TO PROCLAIM VOCIFEROUSLY THAT'S WHAT WE WANT PEACE ON EARTH GOODWILL TO ALL. HAILE SELASSIE I JAH RAS TAFARI THE ALMIGHTY. SELAH.

No other song reminds me of the Vietnam War era here in the USA than this one does. While I didn't serve there, I served later. I had friends from HS who did serve there and thank God, they made it home. But they didn't come without emotional scars. The American people treated Vietnam vets very badly and I think the way they treat latter day vets is an attempt to undo that. Regardless, may God bless those gallant souls who fought and died there and may we all remember that in war, no one really wins.

Amen!...this is a very sad part of America's history ..... not to mention all the riots throug-out this same period.... And...I was in everyone of them except the last one in LA, Calif...I was out of the service but I watched it on TV...It really got ugly there...The Mississippi riot was by far the worst forour troops....This was our first encounter (riot) and our first chance to put into action the skills we learned...and.. how to reserve our anger and not think of our discomforts and somewhat reluctance to martial up our countries citizens. Read my in-put above

    Dean Ford - Wikipedia
Dean Ford, 73 (born Thomas McAleese; 5 September 1945 - 31 December 2018) was a Scottish singer and songwriter best known for his tenure as lead vocalist and frontman of the beat pop group Marmalade from 1966 to 1974. Ford (credited as McAleese) co-wrote the group's worldwide hit "Reflections of My Life" with fellow band member Junior Campbell. "Reflections of My Life" has sold more than two million units globally, and in 1998 the writers were awarded a Special Citation of Achievement by BMI for attaining radio broadcast performances in excess of one million in the U.S. alone.
    Death
Ford died in Los Angeles on 31 December 2018, at the age of 73 from complications relating to Parkinson's disease. His death was announced by his daughter, Tracey McAleese-Gorman, who described him as 'a gentle soul and great father'. His daughter died less than two years later in November 2020 in London.
RIP Dean Ford. Thank you for all you gave to this world with your beautiful voice.❤

My favorite song of all time. However, I feel guilty for the memories it brings back. I had a very low lottery number in the draft, but had a 4S student deferment so I didn't have to go to Vietnam. It wasn't fair and I admit it.
