You could also do virtual, sand boxing but that isn't necessary. The main purpose of these type of toolkits/programs, was to provide for unattended installation on multiple systems. I am primarily a Linux user, but I do have need to install Windows for others and on at least one machine of my own. That said, the biggest frustration are the new builds, and to have to redo this every time is an uphill battle. No one wants to have to reinstall regularly unless there would be some way to just update to your newly may stripped down version, even that's a hassle. But, I suppose if you must have Windows, then you have to decide to what length do you want to have control and how willing you are to strip it. The other option is to create a stripped out version and simply run it offline as in the old days of no internet if you need to run specific tasks that do not require internet. And, if you do need to go online to retrieve the occasional whatever, you can decide how much risk it would be to achieve your task. Either way, thanks for the great content here!
So, i downloaded the same version of msmg toolkit from the video in the alternative site and had no problem using it with a notebook. One thing i did is to not disable wifi services but with the rest i did the very same thing. Windows goes pretty smooth now, thank you very much sir and looking foward to the update since the toolkit is now on the 12.5 version and is pretty different from before.
Background Information: The USB3.0 stack is a special case. It contains a USB controller, a USB3.0 Root Hub, and, for Intel devices, an eXtensible host controller. The USB3.0 controller is connected to and available on the PCI bus, which is visible to the WinPE OS. HIIClient can see it and choose a driver for it. However, the Root Hub and eXtensible host controller devices are not on the PCI bus; they are on a separate USB3.0 bus. The USB3.0 bus is not visible to WinPE by default because WinPE does not have a USB3.0 controller driver by default. That means when HIIClient.exe asks WinPE what devices are connected, WinPE will not return information about the USB3 hub or eXtensible host controller. Because there is no USB3.0 controller driver, the bus (and any devices connected to it) cannot be seen. WinPE will return only information about the USB3.0 controller, even if driver assignments are made for the remaining USB3.0 devices. Resolution: The solution is to inject the USB3.0 controller drivers into your boot.wim image. This makes the drivers available in WinPE. Essentially, the USB3.0 controller device will be installed in WinPE, so when HIIClient runs it can detect the full USB3.0 bus that is controlled by the USB3.0 controller, and select the appropriate drivers for all the USB3.0 devices from the HII driver library. Sometimes it is sufficient to inject just the USB3.0 controller driver, and other times drivers for all USB3.0 stack devices should be injected. You can use the DISM GUI tool for Windows to add the USB 3 drivers to the Boot image file before using Rufus to create the USB install drive. THIS IS ONLY IF YOU CARE ABOUT LEVERAGING USB 3 SPEEDS DURING INSTALL. www.thewindowsclub.com/dism-gui-windows

Hey @CyberCPU Tech. Could you maybe do an Updated Version? There are a TON of new things which can be removed with MSMG Toolkit 12.5 and I am unsure which I can delete without doing it multiple times. There also seems to be no real documentation to figure it out by myself. I HIGHLY appreciate your work you put into this!!!
You should redo this. MSMG toolkit at the time of me typing this comment is v12.5 it has ALOT more choices and a walkthrough may possibly be helpful. If it works for Windows 11 as well other might appreciate that video too. Also, I’ve tried multiple Linux distros on an older laptop to attempt learning it so I can put it on my everyday laptop. However, I can’t find one I like as well as one that functions well out of the box with a laptop containing integrated and Nvidia graphics except pop os with fighting. The newer laptop is set up the same way hardware wise. Can you do a Linux setup video with maybe your favorite distro? Thank you!
Hello CyberCPU Tech, Would you mind in creating an updated video segment on this custom ISO Windows 10 topic? The MSMG Toolkit software version has been updated; Some of the numbered functions ( that you explain within the video ) have been removed and/or changed... while other new functions ( unknown as to what they actually do ) have been added into the MSMG Toolkit. Additionally, Whenever I proceed with the step relevant to the " Extract Source from Custom Windows ISO Image "... the MSMG Toolkit always crashes and closes; I have even tried to re-install a fresh copy of Windows 10, and the exact same issue repeats... time and time again. :( It is driving me bonkers ! Thank you for posting this video; It has been super helpful and very concise - straight to the point. :) - B
This is what i got after i selecting source from Folder " The selected source image build does not support custom component removal, However it supports DISM component removal. All the bloatwares are gone! That's amazing! By the way, there's a thing I'd like to know is the RAM usage between the Original and Customized Windows 10 ISO. Could you show me a bit about the difference bwtween them?(The RAM usage percentage)
I was chocked to see that you want Defender, Defender is the biggest SPYWARE there is inside Windows, mixed with the privacy of users and letting them to install or not what Microsoft wants! There are so much other antivirus software that you can control its behaving at will or? However, I enjoyed your video and explained well about how to make a Lite version of Windows 10 but I felt sick when you said, I will need Defender! my goodness!!!! If you are talking about Bloatware DEFENDER is the biggest of them all!

When something is this good I store it on a Rich Text Doc ( meaning your RUclips video). VIA Windows 10, unfortunately, Windows 11 doesn't have RTD, so I reverted back to Win 10. And I will make this ISO, As always this is another great video. Thank You
Very nice! Thank you for the simple tutorial. Works great on modern systems so far, but I’m unable to install on older computers without a UEFI bios. Is there a way to make these custom ISO’s a non UEFI version? I noticed it does delete the setup.exe file at some point during the stripping process. Some setting in the toolkit, perhaps? Thanks again!
I figured it out! You must select “MBR” partition type in Rufus and not GPT for the older, non UEFI bios installations. Once I did that, it’s a smooth install like the UEFI version. Thanks again, man!
How is this compared to NLite? Seems very similar except that NLite has a nicer UI. Oh, and you have to purchase NLite to unlock deeper levels of Wmdows 10 bloat removal.
MSMG Toolkit download link has been taken down and other downloads on the Internet DO NOT match the SHA1 Hash - they are compromised. You need to either update this video or take it down.
Hello! I did everything exactly as instructed in your video and succeeded. However, the original Windows IS0 that I downloaded from Microsoft (on 11-19-2021) was 4.28 GB and the custom ISO per your video increased to 4.44 GB. Shouldn't the custom ISO have a smaller file size? Thank you!
When you convert the ESD image to WIM it gets bigger because the ESD uses better compression. However, the tool is unable to manipulate the ESD image so it has to be converted to WIM.
EDIT: It seems it half worked, the store and Xbox stuff are you still there, but I don't see any office junk, nor the photos app. Using a VM offline btw. After doing everything in the video, when I booted the ISO up in a VM, Windows had EVERYTHING that should have been removed... I double checked the ISO file, and sure enough, it's the output from MSMG...

Is there a way to build Firefox or Chrome into the ISO so you don't have to have explorer or Edge? Thanks for the video by the way. Most people give a very complicated explanation on this.
@@CyberCPU You could download a copy of FireFox on a USB drive from a different computer then install it to your machine running your new custom windows install.

Very useful, will Windows Updates install those components you chose to leave out? For example, I cannot stand Edge and Cortana, would the toolkit leave them out permanently and not install them with the montly updates?
Simple way : Install fresh W10, install whetever you want, uninstall whetever you want. Install Macrium Reflect, and make clone of your current custom W10 installation to other HDD/SSD. Then make clone of W10 (from clone) whenever you want.
FYI, the latest version of MSMG Toolkit is severely bugged, as it cannot "Extract Source from Custom Windows ESD Image". I was able to download the 11.7 version from another host, and it works fine. Looks like the new version is 20MB whereas 11.7 is 90MB, so some tools have been dropped from the package itself.
I prefer using sysprep with an answer file to create a custom Windows image. The answer file can use "CopyProfile" to copy the profile settings to be used as the default settings for any new user. Customizing Windows is as much about debloating as it is about unhiding the system tray icons and showing file extensions in Explorer and setting dark mode and changing other defaults. WinPE can be used to capture the image after it has been customized. And DISM can be used to turn the wim file into an esd which can be copied to a USB.
I found the tool Anyburn to be far superior to Rufus. It can create bootable USB drives with just one partition and it has some extra capability for ISO operations like extracting files from an ISO
Thank you kindly for taking the time to show us how to debloat Win 10. I have been wanting to do this for years and now I can do it for the new gaming pc I am about to build once my psu & case arrive. Thanks again CyberCPU ✌️👌👍
Good stuff. Thanks for share with us. If future you also have Windows 11 version kit, I'm sure would like try it. Anyway I still good to continue use Windows 10.
There's a newer version now, VERSION 13. The App paks are gone, and some of the menu items are now extended with more options but your guild still works the same!! THANKS!
I know you said at the end any time a new version of windows comes out to redo the iso build but does that also include cumulative and servicing updates? Seen some other people recommend adding those updates to the iso as well or are you meaning that after installing windows 10 with the custom iso to just run windows updates for those updates? I'm a novice so I'm just asking your take on that specific step.
Perfect guide! I‘ll do some before and after testing compared to my regular Windows install to see how much gaming performance this actually gains. Considering how much better some games run on Linux it should be pretty significant. Thanks a lot! Quick question: Anything in particular that‘s different for Windows 11?
@DavidIsFrench That‘s absolutely no issue. I currently have 9th Gen and I‘m on the move to 13th Gen. What does that automatic gaming optimization do and is it any helpful? If it would strip the Windows install itself with that that would be great, but there‘s still way too much junk that gets installed I guess.
Ohhh yea! Now this is the tutorial I've needed but never found, and quite honestly gave up looking for. Hang on, did youtube recommended actually suggest something useful? Red-letter day!
Thank you so much. Great information here! I'm a little out of the loop, but still do some field work from time to time. So, I have to take a workstation back to Win 10 from an accidental Win 11 upgrade. It's also in a remote location with limited internet. My question is, what is the best version of Win 10Pro that I should take with me on a flash drive to install with minimal updates needed? Is there a way to know which is the latest/most up to date version?
I don't know if it will work on Windows 11 but Windows 11 uses the same installer as Windows 10 so it might. Once Windows 11 is released I plan to revisit the subject and do the same thing with Windows 11.
@@gamerking64 Cool thanks for letting me know. I followed your video and made a Windows 10 custom. I liked the way you put your video together, it was very organized and easy to follow.
Cool idea, but so is preparing a system debloated, with all programs, and ui tweaks, and then imaging THAT (eg via macrium reflect) and then having THAT to deploy as needed!
FRESH NEW COMMENT! FIRSTLY: I apologize to the Creator of video as I kind of rounded on him a bit! But it WASNT his fault. I was just a jerk. >.< Updates: The feature packs on MSMG toolkit site now require you to have a membership to download them. 90$ a month. (You do not need for instance VCRuntime and DirectX9c in the Iso as you can download them in post once your iso is installed; the creator assures this. So you can still do this, be mindful there are new options in the toolkit menu, number options may be different due to extra options being present) I realized the hard way that you cannot boot the windows iso via ventoy USB or flashed via Balena etcher. It HAS to be Rufus or a program that can flash windows boot media specifically.
Hi Buddy, I am new to your channel and have been enjoying many of the new and old videos, I want to ask a question, and forgive me if this has been asked before if you remove all the unwanted programs you mentioned, will this make the full size of the installation fit on a normal DVD 4.7 GB ? I am sure you will recommend burning on an 8GB thumb drive, but for certain end use, I need it on a DVD, thanks for anyone else who can answer the question

Thanks for the video. Helped me alot.
I encountered one issue during removal process. The script showed an error that the lenght of the file name was exceeding 260 letter.
So I unzipped the toolkit folder to the main directory and started over. Then it worked.

Yeah, I have to update this video.
@@CyberCPU Please do, Its in version 12.6 and its crashing when I try to extract the ESD
@@juim1j im having this exact same problem.
Background Information:
The USB3.0 stack is a special case.
Resolution:
The solution is to inject the USB3.0 controller drivers into your boot.wim image.

Precise and clear information, and above all a voice easily understandable for non US citizens, this is why I subscribed your video channel.

Great Video! Made mine today and works great! Finally a channel that is to the point and doesn't skip steps! Keep it up!
really liked the video but I had to wait painfully long to complete everything which was worth it
You should redo this.
Thank you!
Hello CyberCPU Tech,
Would you mind in creating an updated video segment on this custom ISO Windows 10 topic? The MSMG Toolkit software version has been updated; Some of the numbered functions ( that you explain within the video ) have been removed and/or changed... while other new functions ( unknown as to what they actually do ) have been added into the MSMG Toolkit.
Additionally, Whenever I proceed with the step relevant to the " Extract Source from Custom Windows ISO Image "... the MSMG Toolkit always crashes and closes; I have even tried to re-install a fresh copy of Windows 10, and the exact same issue repeats... time and time again. :(
It is driving me bonkers !
Thank you for posting this video; It has been super helpful and very concise - straight to the point. :)

You should get them. Depends on what you remove.

Thank you!

Where did you find the 11.7 version?
I love the shirt. IT Crowd is amazing!
This will do a lot for my coming Steam Deck, cheers!
And DISM can be used to turn the wim file into an esd which can be copied to a USB.
i use winreducer, more options and control what you remove. still need virtualbox to test image first
tbh i was gonna use sysprep after the bloatware removal
kind of reminds me of the slipstream days. The tool looks interesting, but some of the concerns/issues raised by commenters makes me cautious.

You should be able to install security updates but feature updates and new builds I would create another ISO for.
Very helpful to me. However, the process with the updated version of MSMG toolkit has changed. An updated video would be awesome.

Perfect guide! I‘ll do some before and after testing compared to my regular Windows install to see how much gaming performance this actually gains. Considering how much better some games run on Linux it should be pretty significant. Thanks a lot!
Quick question: Anything in particular that‘s different for Windows 11?
@DavidIsFrench
That‘s absolutely no issue. I currently have 9th Gen and I‘m on the move to 13th Gen. What does that automatic gaming optimization do and is it any helpful? If it would strip the Windows install itself with that that would be great, but there‘s still way too much junk that gets installed I guess.

FRESH NEW COMMENT!
FIRSTLY: I apologize to the Creator of video as I kind of rounded on him a bit! But it WASNT his fault. I was just a jerk. >.<
Updates: The feature packs on MSMG toolkit site now require you to have a membership to download them. 90$ a month. (You do not need for instance VCRuntime and DirectX9c in the Iso as you can download them in post once your iso is installed; the creator assures this. So you can still do this, be mindful there are new options in the toolkit menu, number options may be different due to extra options being present)
I realized the hard way that you cannot boot the windows iso via ventoy USB or flashed via Balena etcher.
It doesn't significantly change the size of the install unfortunately.
