Inkle looms are used for weaving narrow bands that can be used as belts, straps and trim. See how to get started warping and weaving on your Schacht Spindle Inkle Loom.

For heddles: If you take string and wind it around the main 4 pegs a bunch of times in a big circle, then cut them off at one point, you'll have a bunch of strings all the same size in no time. It's quicker than cutting them one by one. Just keep count of how many times you wind around for the number of heddles you need. Then store them like you would store a hank of yarn. Put a string through the middle of all of them, tie in a bow and twist the whole thing into a mini hank.
Thank you so much for your very helpful video, I have a Schacht inkle loom myself but have never got round to trying it out! Now I can thanks to you!
Instead of taping the thread in the beginning, you can also tie it between the end of the loom and the slot that the tension peg slides around in or you can tie to the tension knob and come around but tieing it to the end of the loom is handy if you can't be bothered by using tape.
Very helpful 😊
+Gabby Holmes The video shows using Cotton Warp for the heddles. You might consider the Maysville Cotton Warp, available on our website at dickblick.com. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!
waxed linen would be better/stronger & last longer.
Thanks
Great! I have that! :)
thank you for sharing this. so helpful
You're so welcome! Even a simple loom can seem mysterious until someone shows you how to set it up
Thank you!
Why in a video of yours which I got with this loom only goes around three pegs for the heddles, yet on here you are using four pegs, I am really confused as to which is right, please can you reply as soon as possible before I go any further with my heddles ?.
What are you using for the heddles?
Thank you enjoyed your video
Also could you please tell how to end working on frame!!
@piggylover368 - You do realize you can put one together with a 10' 2x4 and 4' of 1" dowel rod, right? I put one together that was a ton bigger than that with a slightly different design for around $10 with nothing but a 1/4" drill bit and a screwdriver. The only REALLY important thing is that your two top pegs and your heddle peg are lined up well enough you can get a good shed without fighting the next peg down in the front. I'll post a video of my construction up for you.
How much would this frame cost in pound sterling and do you ship to 🇬🇧??
Hi Lisa, you can see the estimated shipping costs on our website. You'll be able to see the final price before you place the order. Let us know if you have any questions!
What size thread are you using? It looks larger than sewing thread.
+Veola Sutherland She isn’t using thread, she is using a cotton carpet warp, which is a thinner yarn. You can find the product she is using here: www.dickblick.com/products/maysville-cotton-warp/.
Oh! That helps alot. Thank you very much. :)
Cotton crochet thread works well, any of the sizes depending on your preference. Just, in general, avoid yarn because it won't give as much definition to your design due to the ply being more "fuzzy".
thanks explains a bunch
