- Music legend Edwyn Collins talks about the strokes which have affected his life. He's slowly rebuilding his life, and I hope everything improves rapidly.
As well as being known for his song "A Girl Like You", I particularly loved "Rip It Up", by his band, Orange Juice, released in 1983. I even had a T-shirt back in the day which said "Rip It Up"!

I knew Edwyn briefly in his youth, and I can genuinely say he was one of the wittiest, most articulate human beings I had ever met, a man with a genius for invention. Great to see him fighting back to health. Most impressed with Grace's love and dedication.

"Girl like you" was our song with my husband who died 11 years ago. Edwyn is a strong and talented man with a lovely lady by his side. Go on pal!

I'm sure you'll probably never read this but I remember listening to "a girl like you " whilst at work as a mechanic on coaches when it was a massive hit.

I have a high respect for his wife who stood by him and supported him when he had his strokes, which affected him mentally and physically and helped him on his road to recovery.
That to me is an example of a spouse who loves unconditionally and who is there in both the good and bad times.
I saw him in concert last night - it was beautiful. A stunning performance.
This is heartbreaking! I absolutely adore this musician, artist and incredible human being- So grateful that he has the love and care of his wife and son.
He still has a beautiful voice.

As someone who has had a stroke, this is sad, u literally don’t remember shii, speaking and how the brain works changes, it’s like when u see him stuggle to talk it brings back when I couldn’t do anything like walk and talk, dis vid moved me, I am 18 turning 19 soon and had my stroke just after my 17 bday, everyone should be greatful for what they have, I thought nothing like dis could happen to me n just my luck dis happened to me
I've been listening to Rip It Up every day for the past couple of weeks. It was written about me and a woman I know. The sultry in the rain bit, but she was engaged. Then years later she got in touch, but I didn't want her then. Literally written for me, divinely inspired.
Keep taking that medication.

This mans work means so much to me and I am truly grateful for all the joy his songs have given. It’s so sad that he is no longer fully self sufficient but his bravery and perseverance in what must be testing times for him and his family is admirable. God bless you Edwyn x

I remember hearing Edwyn Collins song A Girl Like You as a kid and hearing it at the age I’m at now it’s still amazing as ever from when I heard it being played as a kid. 😄😄😀😀. Such an amazing singer and songwriter. 😄😀.
Inspirational. I grew up as a teenager listening to You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever. It’s still one of my favourite albums. Every few years I pull it out again. It had a spirit that is uncommon now. A lack of fear to do it your own way. All the best Edwyn.

I’m always shocked when I haven’t seen someone for 30 yrs and how people change. Once you get to 45 you don’t seem to recognise yourself any more. When I look at eighties stars I think god they have aged then think god so have I where has 30 yrs gone. Hope Edwyn continues to do well.

This is a testament to the true strength of love and the Human Nature. One does not come back from an experience like this without strength and love surrounding you. I'm so glad that Edwyn was blessed with Grace - both in his wife, and in his circumstance.

What do you mean? He's recorded four studio albums since then, the latest of which was released in 2019. His talent is very much still here, and in brilliant form. =)

Sounds like stroke is a humbling experience. It's not just focusing on what you can do, rather than what you can't, it's about what you have gained.
