I've always thought of it as elastic girl's parents have dark hair and she just got ginger gene(idk what its called) and violet got her grandparents haircolor
It might also be because Violet was originally going to be adopted in an earlier script. Edit 2: Okay this comment DOES NOT deserve 8k likes- mind subbing to the channel while ur here?-
That really would make more sense, especially when it comes to the power dynamics in the family... Everyone else have abilities based around their physical bodies. Super strength, body elasticity, super speed, and even Jack Jack’s main power imo is manipulating his bodies chemistry… So the original script would really fill the puzzle as why Violets powers are the anomaly in the family. Since hers are mental based, completely reliant on brain power so to speak.
I dont know about that, in the DVD box with extra features, theres an early storyboard and there we see a baby violet, although, she could still have been adopted there, bit i dont remember they mention it
Someone theorized that Violet’s biological parents were supers that were killed in action. Bob and Helen were their good friends so took baby Violet in to raise as their own.
One of the original concepts for "The Incredibles" was of Violet discovering that Bob isn't really her father. Instead, she's approached by an older man who lets her know he's her real father and that Helen ran away with her, not letting him know. Helen and Bob are both trying to keep him away from her, but she goes with the guy after a big argument with her parents. It's only when she's around her biological father for a prolonged period that she discovers his relationship with Helen was emotionally, psychologically and (finally) physically abusive just before they found out Helen was pregnant. It's only then that she discovers Bob made a promise to protect and love Violet as his own, leading to a reconciliation, and the family taking him down since he's had become a supervillain. Brad Bird changed the entire story because he thought it was way too dark for Disney, but kept the character designs. Here is the video I was referencing: ruclips.net/video/4SgBUs3dljo/видео.html
Wait dark? DARK?!? HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAMN WAS COMPLETELY DARK AND ALMOST RELATED TO A REAL THING WITH KILLINGS ETC !!! AND IT STILL ENDES UP GOOD!! WHY WOULD HE DO THAT!!! I miss the old Disney, they would never turn down a good dark story like Aurora, Pochahontas and Hunchback of ND. 😒😤 Edit: though whatever they choose it's alright 😌
People keep saying she’s emo just because she’s shy 💀 wearing sweaters and being shy doesn’t equal being emo, and she doesn’t wear black, she wears purple. A bright purple most of the time. It’s because of her powers, hence her eyes being literally purple
I relate to Violet even more now! I am the only one of my full biological siblings to have dark hair, they all have really light blonde and red hair. No, I am not adopted and my mum did not cheat, black/dark hair can in fact be inherited from earlier generations in some family lines (I got my dark hair from my grandparents). Some of the comments on this video are just straight up wrong.
I mean, I know they are I just don't know *how* they are wrong exactly Except with people saying she dyes it, those ones just forget her hair dye would be visible when she uses her powers But like, c'mon people, just admit you're using highschool education to accuse a significant portion of the world population of cheating or being adopted, which also means you're probably wrong Cuz some of the highschool stuff is *proven* to be wrong, yet it is still taught, like the atom models Not to mention, education plans are updated very slowly, so there are actually lots of recent stuff that could be basic, but will never be taught at schools cuz it doesn't have over 50 years
Fr though, i and my parents have dark brown hair while my sister is a blonde. She got that from our grandmother. It's called genetics and most of these comments clearly don't know what that is😀
The only reason it is blue is because animating completely black hair is extremely hard so most artists will throw in some blue tints. You can see this a lot in anime and animated films
No, it's that jet black hair looks bluish or purplelish with the reflection of the light in real life. I saw Ravens that looks blueish under the sun. A relative has such a dark hair that also looked blueish. It takes effort to add that effect, "it's not easier". It's easier to just add one single color without reflection or contrast.
My hair is black (Well, a very black brown hair since it is said there's no such thing as an actual black hair i guess) and i noticed one day that under the light, it gives off a faint blue hue, it was so weird since I've never noticed it before. And out of curiosity, i took a pic of my hair, opened it in an art program and used the eyedrop, which got a dark blue color lol
@@dinodare1605It might not be as obvious but afro hair does shine and a black afro does reflect blue light- I know because my mom has 4c black hair (+ you can look at pictures in google and notice it)
Originally, she was the child from her mom's first relationship before Bob. The original movie was gonna be the family fighting Violet's biological dad, who was suppose to be the main villian.
If you look at a deleted scene from they incredibles, you would see that Violent was going to be adopted by Helen and bob parr and was the daughter of the original villain that was scripted from the series, making her adopted. It would have been great to get a sequel about Violet that dives deeper into her backstory.
Her hair could also possibly be the result of a phenomenon in genetics called epistasis. Epistasis is the overtaking of dominant alleles by a separate set of genes that determine whether the dominant alleles for hair color are expressed. In Violet’s case, it may be that she isn’t the one with a suppressed dominant gene (hence her dark hair), but rather one of her parents. If her hair is caused by recessive genes according to the director, it could be that this is a case of dominant epistasis, which would mean that the color repressing gene needs one dominant allele to activate color cancellation. Either Mr. or Mrs. Incredible most likely have this dominant gene that blocks any dark hair color gene expression. This leaves a chance for homozygous recessive genes in the cancellation department, leaving Violet with dark hair. So it’s possible for her super dark hair to have skipped a generation or two before popping back up again. Genetics are friggin awesome lol
You said it amazingly! Literally the same thing happens in my family. My family is born with short genes on both my mom and dad's. But on my dad's side we have some very tall family so every so often we get family members who are 6 ft or taller sometimes even with auburn or red colored hair.
My father's siblings flock, have three hair colors. The older brother was jet black hair. Dad had ginger hair. And the little brother had blonde hair. Both of my father's brothers inherited their hair color from their parents, while my father inherited his hair color from one of his grandfathers or great-grandfathers, who was a ginger.
I had a similar case happen in my family, my siblings are blonde and red heads, I have really dark hair. My red head siblings got it from our grandparents, I got it from my other grandparents.
Remember that, originally, the movie's villain was supposed to be Elastigirl's ex-boyfriend. What if the plot went into the direction of him actually being Violet's real father?
Genetics is just how they justified it for story purposes haha from a character design point perspective, using really dark colors is a fun way to portray black hair in your art, making the hair pop and staying in line with the color scheme. So VIOLET who goes ULTRA VIOLET has VIOLET EYES and dark VIOLET hair. GOOD CHARACTER DESIGN!!!!
I really like it when they go into the actual bio of a character. I have a recessive gene trait with my eyes, both parents have brown eyes but because both were half white I came out with eyes that change colors. Ranging from hazel to blue and green, and they're the same eyes my papa has.
Some people think it's because elastagirl had her/got pregnant with her before she married Mr incredible. In the scene where elastagirl orders a jet from an 'old friend', she has a picture of the 2 of them that she holds up to the camera with her and a man with black hair. This picture is also among other important pics of elastagirl and Mr incredible on their bed stand
You mean Snug? In the deleted scene with him where he joins Helen and the kids in the plane (and ends up getting killed), he's an old man. I think he's just actually an old friend rather than a lover. Iirc in the deleted scene, he has his own photo of himself, Helen, and Bob (the photo is also in black and white, so its hard to tell what his real hair color is)
Wasn’t the original story about the main Villain being Violets father? Like Helen had a previous toxic relationship with the guy and she left him and Bob comfort her and supported her later marrying even though she was pregnant from the other guy. I remember in one storyboard Syndrome appears at the beginning but dies same scene like the ending in the movie. They had various drawings of this tall dark looking male and he was trying to get Violet to his side. I remember a video covered this whole storyline. I think they found it too dark so they changed it.
@Negative Hind Not necessarily. Previous relationship or they temporarily broke up and got back together later. Don't remember timeline so don't know if this is possible just saying it is possible of timeline matched up.
Dark hair is a dominant gene, not recessive. She could have blonde hair with everyone else black, but not the other way around. Because if either parent had the black hair gene to pass down they’d also have black hair
It’s not that odd. My mom was born with blonde hair that darkened to brown as she got older and my dad was brown a redhead, my sister (and most my family) was brown with blond hair, but I’ve always had dark brown hair (though now it’s more darkest brunette), so I relate to her!
My family members have black hair and I have brown, however I am not adopted. I too just have the recessive gene of brown hair since my grandmother has that hair color too
Given that Violet's eyes are, well, violet, it could stand to reason that the recessive gene is violet pigmentation. Hair and eye colors are a result of melanin production at varying degrees of intensity, and two separate melanin types cause the difference between brown hair and red hair. As a result most hair colors are just variations of one type of melanin, but a recessive subtype of melanin could produce the "violet" color. It would also explain her pale complexion as the pigments produced in her hair and eyes may not be readily produced in her skin, much like gingers often have pale skin but red hair.
It's also just as likely Helen dyes her hair. If Violet could be dying it from middle/high school then Helen could have been dying that color since her twenties.
To all that say black hair is the a dominant gene so that's not the reason, Brad Bird, the screenwriter and director jokingly said "No, it's a recessive gene. We will be creating the genealogy on the website someday. Stay tuned. It's a very complicated genealogy." in response to someone asking why she had black hair while her parents have blonde and brown hair. This video's description is copied and pasted with slight shitty edits from Violet Parr's wikipedia page.
I always liked to think that she was adopted. The daughter of two superheroes who married before they were killed by Syndrome or missing. Elasti-Girl and Mr.Incredible adopted her and started their family. I thought this would make for an awesome story to explore in a trilogy. Part 1 was about Bob reconciling his past. Part 2 was about Helen finding balance in the present. Part 3 would be about the Parr kids and the future of the super world.
Genes working a way that there's dominant and recessive genes Mr incredible probably had dominant blonde and recessive black (Bb), while Ms incredible probably had dominant ginger and receccive black (Gb). Dash's genes were probably Bb While violets genes were probably bb Thus violet's hair is black and dash is blonde.
@@bananaforscale1283 Did you consider that Bob and Helen recieved recessive genes for their hair and eye colour and that Dash recieved those same genes while Violet recieved the dominant genes from her grandparents?
@@Kalani_Saiko You receive your genes from your parents and dominant genes are the ones that can't be suppressed meaning one of the parents have to have dark hair like Violet.
@@bananaforscale1283 Except I literally recieved my dark hair from my grandparents, not my parents. Basically, the dominant genes can't be suppressed BUT were set aside for future generations. Bob and/or Helen may have a parent with dark hair but they managed to get lighter hair (entirely possible) but the dark hair gene is still relevant in their genetics, their first child happened to express that gene while Dash received the lighter hair through recessive traits. Jack jack isn't being mentioned in this equation as baby's hair might not necessarily be the same when they're a bit older.
Dark hair is dominant, yeah. But there's more to hair color than just a single gene, it's quite complex. I think it's either that or the fact that lighter hair colors is more dominant for the family, thereby making Violet's dark hair "recessive" for all intents & purposes in canon
It is, Thought, in a nearly impossible scenario, a child can be born with black hair from two light hair parents because of their families' genetic. But again, it's nearly impossible.
It could also be because there's a deleted Incredibles scene, where a villain reveals himself to be the true father of Violet, meaning that she's adopted.
It's not just her hair, she just looks really different from the rest of the Parrs in general imo. The other Parrs look like regular white people but to me Violet looks like she could be East/Southeast Asian or Hispanic based on her facial features, even though she has pretty light skin. I think she could be adopted. Another possibility is that Helen Parr is a white-passing Hispanic with more stereotypically-Hispanic-looking family members, and Violet looks more like the rest of Helen's family. I'm Hispanic and there's a lot of phenotypic diversity in my family. Some of us have pointy noses, and some of us have round noses. Some of us have light skin, and some of us have dark skin.
@CriticalthinkingpalNative Americans have physical similarities with Southeast Asians and East Asians because Native Americans come from Asia.........
I thought she dyed her hair in the first movie she looked pretty goth but mostly just a shy girl. So yeah that probably just recessive. Plus I’m also very recessive myself as I don’t look like my family, mostly my grandmother. So feel like we need to normalize to people that skips and genes are a thing, looking different is possible in a family.
But Bob and Helen may have recieved recessive genes from THEIR parents which Dash later recieved (Jack jack's hair could darken out later, he's still a baby).
@@Kalani_Saiko They receive the recessive *blonde* gene from both of their parents, but to express the blonde gene both of Bob's phenotypes should be for recessive blonde. Black is *dominant* always, so if either Bob or Helen had the black hair phenotype, their hair would be expressed as black, never as blonde or ginger. That's how Mendel's law works, black hair and brown eyes are never recessive traits.

Oh wow. Yeah, that actually makes sense since she is the oldest. I kinda wish that was canon now.
Honestly they could still go with that it would explain a lot
That really would make more sense, especially when it comes to the power dynamics in the family...
Everyone else have abilities based around their physical bodies. Super strength, body elasticity, super speed, and even Jack Jack’s main power imo is manipulating his bodies chemistry…
So the original script would really fill the puzzle as why Violets powers are the anomaly in the family. Since hers are mental based, completely reliant on brain power so to speak.
I dont know about that, in the DVD box with extra features, theres an early storyboard and there we see a baby violet, although, she could still have been adopted there, bit i dont remember they mention it

The only reason it is blue is because animating completely black hair is extremely hard so most artists will throw in some blue tints. You can see this a lot in anime and animated films
Jotaro looks kinda yellow-ish
No, it's that jet black hair looks bluish or purplelish with the reflection of the light in real life. I saw Ravens that looks blueish under the sun. A relative has such a dark hair that also looked blueish. It takes effort to add that effect, "it's not easier". It's easier to just add one single color without reflection or contrast.
@@lagopusvulpuz1571
This only happens if the hair has a certain sheen. A black afro won't look blue in the sunlight.
My hair is black (Well, a very black brown hair since it is said there's no such thing as an actual black hair i guess) and i noticed one day that under the light, it gives off a faint blue hue, it was so weird since I've never noticed it before.

Originally, she was the child from her mom's first relationship before Bob. The original movie was gonna be the family fighting Violet's biological dad, who was suppose to be the main villian.

Parts of it is still left if you pay attention to the picture of her old friend she called a favor on.
Wow that should be Incredibles 3
I love the movie, but I wish I could have seen that original plot as well
For your Approval:

Final Form has her hair strobe colours like fiber optic lamps
This is exactly what I've been trying to tell people but I couldn't put it into words
what do u major in if u don't mind me asking? your explanation reminded me of a biology lecture i used to help out in lol
You said it amazingly! Literally the same thing happens in my family. My family is born with short genes on both my mom and dad's. But on my dad's side we have some very tall family so every so often we get family members who are 6 ft or taller sometimes even with auburn or red colored hair.

Both of my father's brothers inherited their hair color from their parents,
while my father inherited his hair color from one of his grandfathers or great-grandfathers,

Iirc in the deleted scene, he has his own photo of himself, Helen, and Bob (the photo is also in black and white, so its hard to tell what his real hair color is)
And the postman is the only other person with black bluish hair😁
Unrelated but she is so expressive and that's why I keep watching
Jack Jack's got as many powers as Sun Wukong. He's basically this world's Superman.
You think that elastic girl's friend who has a jet was just a friend. 😂
There was a scrapped villain who is basically Lex Luthor. Just imagine that villain as Violet’s secret dad.
@Negative Hind Not necessarily. Previous relationship or they temporarily broke up and got back together later. Don't remember timeline so don't know if this is possible just saying it is possible of timeline matched up.
@Negative Hind adoption entered the chat.
Dark hair is a dominant gene, not recessive. She could have blonde hair with everyone else black, but not the other way around. Because if either parent had the black hair gene to pass down they’d also have black hair
How the animators have to justify their creations
It’s not that odd. My mom was born with blonde hair that darkened to brown as she got older and my dad was brown a redhead, my sister (and most my family) was brown with blond hair, but I’ve always had dark brown hair (though now it’s more darkest brunette), so I relate to her!
She also has purple eyes in the sequel which is really cute!!!
Oh, I didn't think of that!!
Everybody knows that purple/violet eyes means you're a wizard.

I always theorized that she was a natural redhead like her mom, but would get teased for it so she started dying it black.
It's also just as likely Helen dyes her hair. If Violet could be dying it from middle/high school then Helen could have been dying that color since her twenties.
The color of her hair is so pretty tho it looks like black hair but when you look closer it’s blue!

Lucius showed Helen why he was Mr MORE Incredible while Bob was at work.

Or maybe she has a different father
Genes working a way that there's dominant and recessive genes Mr incredible probably had dominant blonde and recessive black (Bb), while Ms incredible probably had dominant ginger and receccive black (Gb).
Dash's genes were probably Bb
While violets genes were probably bb
Thus violet's hair is black and dash is blonde.
Dark hair is dominant.
Dark hair is dominant, yeah. But there's more to hair color than just a single gene, it's quite complex. I think it's either that or the fact that lighter hair colors is more dominant for the family, thereby making Violet's dark hair "recessive" for all intents & purposes in canon

It could also be because there's a deleted Incredibles scene, where a villain reveals himself to be the true father of Violet, meaning that she's adopted.
Or elastigirl was being an elastihoe
or Mr. Incredible isn’t her bio father?
I always thought that's because they created Violet as a daughter of a supervillain and they just kept her original design when changing the plot
Interesting. Violet could indeed be Asian-Hispanic and adopted.
@CriticalthinkingpalNative Americans have physical similarities with Southeast Asians and East Asians because Native Americans come from Asia.........
i can't believe the director had to even explain it in the first place lmao
Some people went to school to learn literally nothing 💀
I thought she dyed her hair
in the first movie she looked pretty goth but mostly just a shy girl.
So yeah that probably just recessive.
Plus I’m also very recessive myself as I don’t look like my family,
mostly my grandmother.
So feel like we need to normalize to people that skips and genes are a thing,
looking different is possible in a family.
In the original Script Bob was not Violet father, there was supposed to be a twist that the villain and Helen were her parents
OMG was not expecting... that.
COOL!!!!
Oop-
it’s actually that black/brown hair is dominant and blonde hair is recessive. Science 101 guys
