I made up my mind. But going full EV. I'm going for the latest 6 seater Hyundai Santa fe. The new interiors are with abundant features, INTERIOR COMFORT, BUTTONS, and remind of the BEST parts of the top of the line specced /fully loaded Volvo models from 8 -15 years ago.
The only compromises will be power, and the hands off, eyes off highway pilot that I will have to give up from upcoming xc90 //ex90 models.

Strange that prices are quoted as the same. In the UK the EV9 starts at £64K and rises to £78K. The EX90 starts at £96K, so a minimum of £30K difference, or £18K if I go for the most expensive EV9. Not what I would call roughly the same price.

In Sweden it’s 997k for the base Volvo and 869k for the launch edition EV9. If you want a similar spec Volvo it’s 1,1 million Swedish kronor for the Volvo.
And I’ve driven my EV9 in cold weather and really bad weather, there’s no problems with the EV9 preconditioning of the battery. If I activate the preconditioning 50 min before charging I get maximum charging speed every time. To compare with my tesla that starts preconditioning about 1h20min before in the same conditions.

When I compare the Volvo EX90 (non-performance, but Twin Motor) to Kia EV9 specs in Finland, I get 114.000 EUR price versus 89.000 EUR. That is +25.000 EUR. I will miss amazing B&W, fancy Pixel lights and perhaps some quality in EV9. I will miss electric captain seats with relaxation mode and the spacious 3rd row in EX90. So, in the end, I'm down to material quality between the two. Can I justify spending 25.000 EUR more? Is the quality in Volvo really that high compared to EV9? It is a rhetorical question, I think.
When I asked for a quote for the Volvo, I got the price of 116.000 EUR, including winter tires with rims and a towing bar (with all possible discounts). When I asked for a quote for the Kia, I got the price of almost 90.000 with everything included. I couldn't find a reason to spend 26.000 EUR more and went with EV9.
Not to mention 7 year warranty from Kia. I bought EV9, and with the current interest rates, I will pay ~800 eur/month for the principal loan for 6 years. In five years (my plan to keep the car), I will repay at least 48000 EUR. Will I be able to sell EV9 for 42000 EUR after 5 years? I'm sure I will. What extra risks might I have? With 7 years warranty - none. Even new buyer will retain two more years hassle free ownership.
With Volvo risks are much higher after 3 years warranty, including Air Suspension, Pixel Lights, and more.
Kia will offer LiDAR (available in Korea) with EV9 GT (EU approval pending). But LiDARs are still very limited and need more time for users to benefit from them, that is not an advantage for me.
Being practical - EV9 is the obvious choice. Money is not a problem? Well, for that, we still have first-class tickets 🙃
Still, Volvo is a great car. I had S90 (latest model) for 4,5 years and was willing to switch to EX90 as I was in love with Volvos. But Kia made something unique by all means and took me away to their camp!

In many markets the EV9 comes with a Meridian sound system, is that available in Finland?
The problem with LIDAR, is the sensors get dirty and stop working. Volvo doesn’t appear to offer any sort of cleaning for their sensors. It’s not really a problem in warm snow free countries but with all the crud cars in Northern Europe get covered in the LIDAR sensors stop working until you clean them.

I thought the EX90 was going to be available 3Q 2024. I think it is in the USA but it is being built there as well. It's ridiculous that volvo doesn't have an EX90 for journalists to drive. Polestar managed to drive people around in a Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 during the recent Polestar Day in California. Volvo needs to step it up in terms of getting this car to market. I understand wanting to get it right. But it was introduced a year ago and 3 years to customers is way too long after any introduction.
As for the comparison, well done. But it's clear that the Volvo is in a different rung as a car. Functionally, the EV9 is better, seems to have more room.

At 8:25 I would SERIOUSLY want to know on what actual fact is the poor preconditioning of EV9 battery pack is based on? I have factually just 1½ weeks ago done charging test on a EV9 in -4c degrees and pulled a 64.04kW charging session at a Ionity station in 21 minutes from 17% to 78% maintaining a 182.97kW average and 216kW peak charging speed. My experience on -25c degrees on a EV6 I've still managed to get all the way up to some 215-220kW peak power and 25min 10-80% sessions. Would not describe that poor. Would describe that absolutely world leading in this price range.

I know Kris Rifa is a sucker for Volvo but this video is more biased and incorrect than what I've seen before. Also the price comparison is just stupid wrong, at least in Sweden where I bought my EV9 for 870 000 SEK incl tow hitch electric, 6 seat version. The EX90 with the same equipment somes in at around 1200 000 SEK.

@@KrisRifathere’s no problems with the preconditioning of the EV9. I’ve got the same results many times with my EV9. I activate it 50 min before charging in -10 degrees and get full charging speed.
Also you will only get 250 kWh charging speed from the Volvo at a tesla supercharger. Otherwise it peeks at 200. You need the higher amps to get the full 250 with the Volvo and today it’s only Tesla that delivers that with a 400 V system. So for you to get 10-80% in 32min with the Volvo you have to charge at tesla, otherwise it will most likely be around 40 min. The EV9 have delivered an average of 180 kWh on all 800V chargers that I’ve tested.

Thanks Kris for the comparison between the EX90 and the EV9. I frankly love the design and aesthetics of the EV9 and the space is strikingly huge! The EX90 to many who have said is very similar to the XC90, with some significant tech changes which I think is a good sign. However, after having driven a 2004 XC90 2.5T FWD for 18 long years without a single accident or a major incident “safety” by far is an absolute critical feature. Most EVs nowadays have their center console displays, multiple IHUs to make the entire experience a bit more personal. At the end of the day, I am all for sensors and cameras and radars if they are well integrated, user acceptance tested and works reasonably well. I’d love for you to compare these two models with the Lucid Gravity. I am finding the Gravity to be an absolute bad assery SUV in its genre! 😄

Much better interior for the driver in the EV9 -- climate controls and other important controls outside of the main touchscreen, and MUCH better design and layout of instrument panel and infotainment screen in the EV9. Volvo has really lost their way big time. Having driven most of their line up since my boss loves Volvo and we only have Volvos as company cars I have to say:
Yes they are really really safe. They are probably THE vehicle I would most like to be in when I have a crash at any given time. The differences compared to other cars arent that big though.
They will get a certain market with the safety aspect, sure, like my boss who owes his life to a Volvo back in the 90s.
Buuut, especially here in Germany their proposition just doesnt make sense. They are priced on Mercedes / BMW level but limit the top speed to 180 km/h. You can have a beast like my bosses XC90 Recharge with like 450 PS and it can only go 180 km/h, slower than my Mazda MX5 could go from the 90s. In literally every country on the planet this could not have less of an impact, but in Germany of all places. I have had friends with little front wheel drive 3 series BMWs with much less power just leave me for dust on the Autobahn because they could hit 220 and I was restricted to 180 km/h. If I had bought that car Id be fuming. I was fuming even though it was not my own car.
Other stuff too. The infotainment screen is a joke in 2023. Its literally the same design as the XC90 in 2017. Lazy. I can excuse lazy if the car is cheap. I can excuse features been given over updates then taken away again. I can excuse Apple Car Play only over wired. I can excuse cheap sensors which go crazy all the time and see ghosts everywhere.
On a cheap 20k car. Not on a 60-100k Volvo.
Volvo lives in a world of their own, where they are the cool guys and on the same level as Mercedes and BMW. These guys laugh their asses off to Volvo. Its not even close.
They need a reality check, and fast. I really love the brand in many ways but they are currently their own worst enemy.

Well, Volvo is much less safe than it used to be because of the emphasis on using the touchscreen while driving for so many things, including climate controls. Driving a Volvo is like using a smartphone actively while driving. That is NOT safe. Volvo has lost their way in terms of safety. It seems absurd to make a car have strong safety features in its structure (metal shell) but then fail miserably in preventing preventable accidents by taking away physical buttons/dials. Makes zero sense to me. (Oh, and I'm a current Volvo owner, '22 XC60, so I know pretty well how unsafe Volvo has made these vehicles, and the EX90 looks to be far, far less safe than my XC60 is. And, no, voice commands do NOT make up for loss of buttons! Especially when your infotainment screen is out, as if often the case in modern-day Volvos, when you can't even ACCESS voice commands at all, never mind whether voice commands work, or if you need to interupt phone calls or in-car conversations or listening to radio/music in order to have to talk to TRY to get the car to do what you want it to do!)

in my country the ev9 is cheaper than the Volvo e90 about 25k € ...with the difference of price i can afford a cheaper ev . and in terms of specs between the ev9 and the Volvo ex90 in my opinion worth more the ev9 mainly for the comfort that it has ... I own a 2022 model xc90 t8 and I notice a big difference in terms of comfort and drive experience in comparison to the kia ev9. I decided to order the ev9 long range because I have financial benefits due to VAT recovery and I´m going to keep the xc90 and sold my c40 .... I have a big family and its important for us have big cars because our daily life is to pick up the children several times a day and for that is important to have space for school and gym bags , musical instruments (like guitars) , and for too much things its the perfect car for a family can have. the big travels that we made ,its only in vacations so , for that we're going to travel in the xc90 because we don't need to be limited to the time wait to charge an ev. too much electric cars for a few chargers across the country. Portugal is insane. lol... btw and you mentioned in the video , the situation here is the same....almost a year to wait for the ex90. that's the time for the brands develop a bigger battery with more range. So it doesn't worth at all to choose the Volvo ex90 instead of the kia ev9. too many years with Volvo but for sometimes we have to admit that there are other great solutions.

My honest thought on EX90 being so late is that Volvo is seriously pressing the panic button here. En even by pressing it they still cant seemt to bring the car to the marker bith some basic 10 year old tech ready like carplay/AA ready in cars software. Kia made such a mad good product that Volvo is having haaaaaaard time selling that EX90 for actual families. Families value practical space, trunk space reliability and when you got the sweet children to hande and you wanna stay stable in finances that warranty is a dealbreaker. 7 years vs 3. Kia easy choice here.
1st Kia customers have had their EV9 almost for a year now and Kia has learnt in terms of campagns as well. EX 90 will be RAW i mean seriously RAW experience for the 1st 6 months at least untill they get major stuff fixed while their 100.000 spent customers work for free as test dummies and test techs. Ridiculous.

Unless you know the exact nature of the acquisition, you're not in a knowledgeable position to comment on the nationality of the company. Sweden is Volvo's home and what they operate out of. Not China. China is Volvo's second market. Europe is Volvo's first market. And Volvo is not full of Geely personnel, they're full of Volvo personnel regardless of where they are.
