Well done the judge. Good sentences.
These so-called parents didn't care about their child, only themselves. They weren't even there to offer him support when he was caught, they chose to clean out their bank accounts and run away. They had many chances to help their son, but because of their selfishness they will always be known as horrible, uncaring people who raised a murderer.

This is how the government fools the low intellect populace (more than 80 percent of Americans sadly)into believing that it´s doing something about the problem of gun violence while doing NOTHING AT ALL. Meanwhile ensuring that the NRA´s gun sales keep booming. There are still several guns in each American household and the cycle of gun violence continues. This has nothing to do with parenting or mental health help. America is bleeding in dying need of gun control and affordable healthcare that includes mental health. Yet it will do anything to prevent any change in legislation to attain this including inventing charges to jail Americans for just being their usual dumb ole selves. I have never seen a dumber country in my life.

We had full access to hunting shotguns and rifles, but never would it have crossed our minds to go shoot up our school. We also were not ignored by our parents. Our issues be they physical or mental were addressed cause my parents actually raised us, unlike these people. It's sad for the kid that's never getting out of prison that his parents cared so little that this was the result. It's just that much worse that he clearly had mental health issues and in the parent's brilliance, they bought the kid a gun and left him to his own mental images. Just so terrible. I was very far from a perfect parent, but I sure as hell kept up with what went on with my kids...not every single detail, but by far enough to know what the hell was going on. This woman when presented with clear warning signs was more concerned about getting out of the school and not taking the kid so she didn't have to deal with him. Unconditional love...she should never be able to look at that kid again...ever.

Finally, some true justice. Mrs. Crumbley was more concerned about losing her job than the people her son shot, and was more concerned about her job than she was about her son. Mr. Crumbley apparently tried to do exactly the opposite of what should have been done at every step in the history of this sad case. Mr. Crumbley bought him the gun, took him to the range, and then did not insure that the weapon and ammunition was properly secured. If Mr. Crumbly had been doing that, this most likely would not have happened. I have owned guns all my life, and I spent 25 years in the military. The actions of the Crumbleys in this matter are indeed criminal, and due justice has been served.

I don't know about you but I've already six kids and trust me every one of them a fucked in the head when I was growing up my father had a liquor cabinet and he put a lock on it so what I did I took the hinges off drank the liquor and filled the back up with water he didn't find out until New Year's Eve when he brought the liquor out and realized he had no liquor. The way he secured that liquor didn't they how do you secure a gun from a kid who secretly snapping wasn't openly snapping because a kid was never in trouble in school never in trouble with the law maintain good grades never had disciplinary action held a part-time job was fed everyday clothe everyday had the things that a kid needed shit he sounded better off than 80% of American kids but yet he snapped I'm sorry Don't tell me you were in a military and you know how to lock up your gun but there is no such a thing as locking securing your gun good enough for kid wants something they're going to get it let's get real here your criminalizing something that shouldn't be criminalized

"She wouldn't do anything different". Nope that can't be out of context. If I was called & saw my daughter drew that. The school wouldn't need to give me 48 hrs. I'd be taking her for emergency mh treatment. The school did more than the parents. But when they wouldn't take him out of school, that drawing literally showed his plans. The school should've informed parents they need to contact 911 for mh emergency. Or at v least when they refused to take him home, told them they'd be calling 911. But in no way should he both been allowed back in the school. Saying "within 48 hours" this was an immediate emergency & they don't check his bag. These 2 knew he'd a gun when they saw the drawing & did NOTHING. Accessory to murder forget involuntary manslaughter. 10 - 15 yrs was def less than expected esp with judges words before. Was expecting to hear above the 15 yrs expected.

I don't understand why the judge made the statement, "This is not a case of bad parents". Yes it is. Before the school incident happened, Ethan sent text messages to a friend. He was telling the friend he asked his parents for help. Also, according to the text messages, I believe he asked his parents to take him to see a doctor because of the delusional thoughts he was having. Instead of getting him help like he was requesting, they did not. I'm astonished on so many levels! Most teens are too embarrassed to even tell their parents about having such thoughts, and even more teens are concerned that if they do tell their parents about it then their parents will take them to a doctor. But here we had a teen willing to confide in his parents and WANTING them to take him to a doctor. That breaks my heart. And then, as if you can't think it can get more worse and outrageous, the father gets him a weapon. This is just shocking. It just floors me. And THEN the parents fled the city after their son was arrested. They were willing to abandon their son in the city where he was being held in jail instead of being there for him and checking in on him while he was in custody. Who does that??? What parents do that??? I mean, come on... In my opinion, given the facts of this case, these two "parents" deserved WAY more time than this judge gave them. I'm so saddened for the parents of the victims and so angry at these (seemingly) MALICIOUSLY neglectful Crumbley "parents".

@peacenow42-- Unfortunately, children and teenagers don't always do things in a way that makes logical sense. We ALL wish the son had asked the school for help, but the greater responsibility was with the parents.
And the son was smart enough to reach out to his parents multiple times, and to text and talk to them about his hallucinations -- but they only laughed at him and ignored his concerns.
When a child's own parents have made him feel embarrassed and ashamed for asking for help from them, that child will almost always also be reluctant to ask for help at school .

As parents we are supposed to be looking out for our kids and getting them care, and then includes being able to figure out some stuff that children might not be able to express yet on their own, even as teenagers. These parents had a child who had such insight into his own disease that he asked for help directly. They ridiculed him. You should understand why he might not have asked for help at school.

Well legally you can find one person accountable for murder and then charge additional people as well- as accessories - or in this case, charge them with negligence resulting in manslaughter. The state could have done this even if their son was over 18. This is similar to you or i knowingly giving a drug addict a weapon and letting him or her drive drunk while firing it out the window. The addict could have been 30 years old and convicted of murder but you can still charge the owners of the weapon with manslaughter since they knew the addict was intoxicated and that harm could result. Ethan, in order to go to a mental institution, would have to have a mental illness that inhibited his ability to understand right from wrong or be cognitively impaired at a fairly extreme level. This is not the case here. All three are eligible for prison for different reasons. 😊

    • @MyLifeInTheDesert

False equivalency. The parents of the GM would have to know their child was in a gang, they would then have to buy that child a weapon, and then they would need to be notified by LE or members of the community that the child had stated they intended to use the weapon to harm someone, and then that parent would need to do nothing to prevent the crime. If all of these conditions were present yes they could be charged with manslaughter. There are lots of cases where this happens. If you knowingly allow an intoxicated child to drive and they inadvertently drive into a family on the road, you can be liable. You can even lose your house. The lesson here: be a good parent and do the right thing.

These parents are criminally negligent. You’re acting like they were normal, good parents. They are not.

We don't have any idea what he "would have' done if his father had not purchased him a weapon and left it accessible. Any parent who leaves a gun unsecured that a child uses to shoot someone is held liable for that shooting. It happens all the time- some little toddler finds a gun in the living room and shoots his baby brother, and the parents are charged.

It’s very difficult to have compassion for these two! I agree that the school bears a lot of responsibility and if not criminal at least civil charges should have been brought, however, that has absolutely nothing to do with the culpability of these parents. I mean, asking for time served… The audacity that she could ask for time served is beyond my comprehension and shows that she still after everything does not believe she did anything wrong.

She predetermined this sentence weeks ago. Everything will be appealed. The trials and the sentence will win on appeal. Everything will be a do over because this judge is incompetent and made many errors.

Well, let us hope for the victims case? You are wrong. But, an appeal usually always gets requested. I knew the first day they were going to file one. Most convicted idiots do.

if other parents are as negligent as in this case, than rightly so.
