Very nice diy. I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to add a piece of clear lexan across the front as a lense to close it up? Would help keep water and dirt out, but was wondering about heat issues. Thanks for the great content. 👍👍
Thanks! The DIY approach is a great option here. It's not too hard, and you end up with a brighter light than the commercially available units. Win-win!
For those who are interested, the 3D print files have been uploaded to Thingiverse. The link is in the description. For now the files are uploaded as-is. In your slicer you'll need to change the orientation and for some of them you'll need to make a mirror image copy for the other side.
well my lightbar is about 120mm long and it gets way too hot for a 3cell lipo..so 11.1v is too much but anything lipo smaller it wont work..any ideas My smaller(60mm) bar will work off a 9v battery no probs and doesnt get hot.
Mine gets hot too, but not hot enough to melt the mounts yet. I tried a voltage regulator but it didn't help. I need to add a resistor to limit current.
@@BudgetRC_Channel thanks for yr quick reply bud..if u find what works please be sure to update..i mite try my local electronics store to see if they can help
Budget Rc , can you tell me where to find the boost controller you are referring too I am in the process of building a couple light bars I have the same ones your purchased the smaller ones that are bright as heck I am trying to hook into my receiver on my e revo as I do not want to drain one lipo more than the other is the main reason I don’t want to run off a pack and adding another pack just for the light bar will be too much weight, thanks man love the vids I’m trying to start a channel as well.
Thanks for the quick reply I will have another look I looked on eBay and AliExpress but was coming up with these great big power converters lol I will try again and try to narrow the search, thanks again.
Great thanks a ton I just ordered two different kinds to experiment with just need my c channel now, you must be Canadian ? eBay.ca love to see you tubers from Canada , I’m from Nova Scotia . Thanks again and take care hope your channel blows up as I’m hoping the same for mine in the next couple years .
Nah, I'm in Vermont. I grabbed the link from the ebay app on my phone. Not sure why it used .ca. thanks for the kind words on the page. Just as it was starting to take off, I completely ran out of time to make more vids. Hopefully soon I'll have some time again.
I'll try to get them up tonight. I wanted to get them mirrored and re-oriented first, but I haven't had time. For now I'll toss them up like they are. You can re-orient and mirror in your slicer.
Mine gets pretty hot, but not enough to really hurt anything. I've been meaning to try a buck converter to bring the voltage down a tad, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

The light bar is waterproof, so there's not much to be gained by adding it, and it could impact cooling. It would probably also melt.
Another great how too! Never thought about building a light bar with so many to choose from. Great video!

Very nice video man that light bar is better than any light bar I've seen on the market good job thanks for the information
Thanks!

Nice job with the light and with the video itself. I see you're closing in on 1,000 subscribers!
Thanks!
FWIW, the strip link doesn't work, but if you copy and paste the description into a search bar, it'll come up with a new link on Ebay that works.
Definitely worth giving it a shot that's the link that you had had expired just giving you a heads up for your eBay 12 volt
This is such a great idea! Unfortunately, some of the links for the leds are no longer available. I dont suppose you have an updated source for leds?
I don't. These things come and go on eBay, and I posted that video years ago. Look for "cob LED" in whatever length you're after.
I cried at the end 😢
Nice install and footage. Thanks!
What a fantastic video! Thank you. You said that you would show in a future video how to run a 12v light bar on 2s, I can't find it anywhere.
I haven't had time to do that upgrade yet. Summer is very busy with kid's sports, so I haven’t had time to do it. Hopefully soon!
Great how to man! Liked and subscribed
thanks!
Awesome video man!
Are you running FPV.This was awesome.Great job and thanks for the information.
I have an FPV rig, but haven't had time to install it yet. Hopefully soon! Thanks for the kind words.

I'm planning on making one for my 3 wheel tricycle lol but I'm not sure
I'm not sure where to mount it I mean and lol where could I buy one I prob just need a 10 or 15 inch led light bar if there is such thing lol thnkx
great video thanks
Cool, awesome video :)

Search ebay for "boost converter" and you'll find a ton

Here's an example, though not the ones I bought: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.ca%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F112468350952

How long are the bars?
Just found this....sadly, none of the links work, how'd U find the strips??
I bought them on ebay or Amazon. Try searching for "COB LED Strip" in whatever length you're after
@BudgetRC_Channel one other question, you used Alu for bar, why not plastic, do they get to hot??
@@longcrawler they get hot enough that plastic could be problematic, plus aluminum channel is readily available
@@BudgetRC_Channel ok...thx
The links to the light bars for ebay don't exist.
Stuff like that comes and goes unfortunately. This video is 4 years old, so it was bound to happen eventually.
@Budget RC Hey I have. a Jeep Rock Crawler from New Bright any ideas you can tell me on how to make mine look like yours?
I just picked some of these up for $6 on amazon. Super bright, but a little bit too long. Do you know if i could cut it down and still have it work?
I don't know. It depends on how the individual LEDs are wired.
Can u use lipo battery
Of course. I power it with a small 3S lipo.
What are you plugging the jst connector into?
For now I'm using a 3S pack until I wire up a boost converter so I can use 2s
Alright I'll have to look into the boost converter, I tried to plug it into a 4x aa pack but would not power up
I'll be doing a video on using boost converters soon.
Very nice, what state are you in? Looks similar to Wisconsin LOL
I'm in Vermont.
@@BudgetRC_Channel that explains it!
any link for the 3d print file?

thanks! im fan of your videos! keep going on ur doing it well!
Super ! Gruß aus Germany
No problem with overheating? My led strip gets too hot :(
Mine gets pretty hot, but not enough to really hurt anything. I've been meaning to try a buck converter to bring the voltage down a tad, but I haven't gotten to it yet.
@@BudgetRC_Channel voltaga will have no effect, only way is to change A.. Best should be about 12v x 0.2A, ill try this setting
@@johnyM128 of course voltage has an effect. The light bar has current limiting resistors, so less voltage will mean less power.
yep mine gets way too hot on a 3s and wont work on 2s
Hi, how do you run those on 12V or did you use 6 or 7 ?
I ran it directly from a 3s battery.
@@BudgetRC_Channel Ok. And how switch on and off?
@@sanderromer6490 on this truck I just unplug it. I have other videos that show how to switch lights with the controller.
@@BudgetRC_Channel I have seen a lot of those video's but do you also have a vid about switching 11 or 12V with the receiver?
@@sanderromer6490 it was the video right before this one. Here's a link. ruclips.net/video/_KeDSP5VlM8/видео.html
Are you selling these?
Nope, but all the info you need to do it yourself is there.
Links aren't accurate
You will be laughing but dont watch to often in this super bright Led (Cob lights) they can damage your eyes!
