Unless I am mistaken, yours is the first time I have seen a timestamp collection for a Command Zone video and I thank you greatly for your effort and wonder how it took this long for this to happen! These are really useful!!
You are amazing this could help me one day if I come back to this video for a card one day. I've had to rewatch a few episodes JUST to see a card that I wanted to add to a deck.
BIG thank you to Josh and Jimmy! Just got into MTG last month solely because I came across a random episode of game knights. I have now got my wife and 2 brother in laws buying cards and creating new decks like crazy. Thank you guys so much for the content you provide, and making it easy to understand for newbies. It is much appreciated!!!
it is great to see people expand the community out to friends and family. things like this show how much jimmy and josh help new players get into the game!
Same here. I originally got into MTG this past summer by watching a few episodes of spellslingers, then my friend took me to a open house and had me play some commander with her Edgar Markov deck and fell in love with the game. Actually just ordered my second commander deck like ten minutes ago, I am really excited for it.
so looked it up, the phyrexians were torturing sqee and made him temporarily immortal so they could kill him over and over, it backfired and he accidentally killed his captors. And to this day squee is immortal and known as the oldest and wisest goblin.
Apparently that wasn’t supposed to be the way it happened. I read an article where Mark Rosewater explained that originally he was just supposed to be extremely lucky to the point where he would survive when he shouldn’t have(not actually die and come back to life). However, a designer misunderstood what was happening in the books, so they ended up making Squee, Goblin Nabob. Then that ended up taking over the lore.
I really like the pre game deck build video. Definitely gives me a good idea of what the decks are wanting to do and a better idea of how well they work watching the game.
Just turns into a " kill target player " strategy, which there are more efficient ways of doing and not putting a target on yourself. 99% of situations where you could infect 3 people out are you producing infinite mana, and in that case you are winning with commander damage anyways.
I love mtg, whenever I go to prereleases everyone there is usually adults whereas me and my few friends are 13-14yr olds, but thanks to this podcast, we have just as much knowledge as others and sometimes win the prereleases and f&m, you guys are a great example and great role models to my friend and I
I think this is a really neat idea you guys. It will be fun to look out for the interactions/strategies mentioned here in the episode later this month. Cheers!
Yes! I agree with the sharing the decks before hand for two reasons rising hype and also knowing the generals and how they work before the gameplay makes for a better story.
Four years ago I made this deck. It became one of my strongest. I eventually was forced to sell it due to needing the money. 4 years later, I am rebuilding her and forgot most of the cards in the deck but thanks to this video being up still, I have what I need. Thank you
Dammit, and here I was building something similar around Malfegor. Two cards that I was considering myself that I didn't see here, either: Vicious Shadows - expensive red enchantment, but aristocrat effect on crack in playgroups that like large hands. Desecrated Tomb - Thought it was interesting since release, but I realized that Skeleton and effects like it reliably trigger it. Bats, everywhere!
I love it. Totally going to run this build in my play group. I also want to thank you guys for all the commander tips and tricks. You guys have made opened me up to commander and I am now having much more fun with more of my cards.
so something you missed in the new set is Priest of the Forgotten gods. Its price of 2 creatures is reasonable considering how much it does. Draw a card, each of all target players sacrifice a creature, they lose 2 life, you add 2 black mana. the card is just sick and something I'm considering heavily in my Alesha deck since it clears a blocker, sacs targets for her, draws a card. as well it deals damage for Spectacle triggers. Its really potent and you should have tried it out.
So I actually built a Judith deck too. Some other great synergies are Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble. The life lost and gained is a great way to stay ahead, and works well when you're sacrificing your own creatures too.
Iirc josh used blood artist in his cleric deck but this doesnt prevent him from using it here too, some redundancy wouldnt be that bad, and it would also give life gain to stall a bit while he waits to go infinite.
Doesn't really need to waste a spot on Blood Artist when he gets a similar effect with his commander ( I will admit Blood Artist has a better "ping " effect, but it is redundant, especially with Judith having a 3CMC). Zulaport Cuthroat is in the same boat. You really don't need it, when Judith is there doing a very similar thing. Yes it gives life, but when you already have the effect at will, there isn't a need to double it up in this version of the deck. Gravecrawler requires you to control a zombie. He only has 5 in the deck.
I'm not sure if I'm interpreting it wrong, but for Mikaeus @ 26:13, undying wouldn't take effect because all creatures that get undying also have +1/+1, but they only return to battlefield if they dont have any counter. Unless we can take away those counters from every creature that has undying, for example with Aetherborn Marauder.
BassB23 oh, I'm sure you'll see Vannifar a lot. You probs won't be able to find a lot of commander tables without Vannifar on it once RNA is out, at least for a few months.
It is weird how I used to dislike the singing and now that it was gone for a little bit the singing is one of my favorite parts of the episode. Thanks Jimmy and Josh for a great episode!
I like this new format/sequence. It gives a better perspective and I hope will let us root for certain strategies or cards each of you might also be thinking at that time.
This deck seems sweet! My favourite Game Knights episode was the one with the Shadowborn Apostles deck. This feels similar but with so many more avenues to win. Can't wait for the next Game Knights!
I think one of the coolest uses (not necessarily the strongest) of electrodominance is turning that "do nothing enchantment" into both removal and instant speed.
From what I recall from the original banning article for Skullclamp, the +1/+1 version was actually considered cripplingly weak, and the +1/-1 version pretty much slipped through unnoticed (causing it to be banned in standard within 3 months of printing). Small correction I know, but just confused me a bit when I watched the episode up to around 15:57
Black Market is a great include for this sort of deck. Also the various dinos with the "Enrage" ability since you can easily control how much damage and how many triggers you want targeted at those dinos.
What about abusing the enrage ability on Dino's...like "Silverclad Ferocidons." ping him with Judit 4 times per turn and each opponent sac's 4 permanents each turn!
It’s not a skull that Squee is holding. That’s Squee’s Toy, which was part of the Legacy Weapon. According to MTG wiki it was something called the Salvation Sphere.
One of my personal pet cards is Neko-Te, and I think it has place in this deck. Neko-Te will allow Judith to freeze creatures that scare you and also doubles the damage Judith deals to players. It's a fun inclution. Thanks for the video, seems like a fun deck.
Silverclad ferocidons is a great card to run, cause it's another great ping target for judith. Making people sacrifice pernaments after a board wipe is just brutal.
I love watching game knights, but as a new player I struggle to keep up with a lot of the end game combos. Releasing the deck techs before the episode of game knights is a great idea!
Door to Nothingness it was supposed to be the "destroy target player", but in the end they templeted as losing the game. Great content as always guys, big fan!
You guys should totally do more Kitchen Table Fables! THOSE ARE HILARIOUS! Obviously the ones you have are pretty old, so I bet the qualitiy has made it so much better!
To anyone who wants to play this deck or any other deck involving sacrificing creatures, especially newer players, this is some advice as a long time Meren and Teysa player. Learn the ins and outs of the Stack, Mana Abilities, and Priority. More than any other deck, aristocrats decks can make use of the complicated and usually invisible mechanics of the game to your advantage if you understand them. For example one of the most powerful decks in Modern, KCI, takes advantage of the generally uneventful cost phase to create its loop.
Reassembling skeleton put in work for me the other day and by work I mean nothing, opponent had thoughtknot seer with annihilator 4 so I just put it back every end step.
Funny enough I was listening to Mark Rosewater's "Drive to Work" podcast and he was describing how he had originally designed Door to Nothingness to say "destroy target player" but the developer on the rules committee said it had to be changed.
Watching your videos iv always said I wanted the deck techs before the actual game comes out but now im think is rather have the video, but only saying that cuz im always itching to watch game knights. Keep it up guys!! And thanks!!!
Hey guys! This really is the best way to go. First, present us with the decks that are going to be played on Game knights, so when the time comes, we know what each player is trying to do with their decks.
That was not what I meant. My point was that by presenting the decks prior to the game knights episode, we know what each guest is trying to do with their decks. I was not talking about the players in my playgroup :) But for sure that’s not a winning deck. Lavinia will also not be a winning deck, to predictable, old strategies, and just stops non creature spells. The strongest commander in this set is Vannifar. If you have a perfect starting hand you can win on turn 1. If not, that birthing pod ability is super effective.
A combo I really enjoy is everlasting torment,( all damage is delt as tho it has wither ) nest of scarabs ( whenever you put 1 or more -1/-1 counters on a creature make that many 1/1 scarabs and blasphemous act. I don’t have the biggest budget for magic and these cards are budget friendly for those people :) also some good cards for the deck I think are, rakdos blood witch and grave betrayal and some board wipe because all the creatures that die come to your side and they will have haste from rakdos blood witch because of the +1/+1 counters and all this is very budget friendly :) thanks for the awesome episode josh and jimmy, always enjoy it!
Jimmy, there is a enchantment that says "Pay a huge amount of mana, sacrifice this enchantment: target player loses the game" (It's from conflux or one of the other alara sets but I forgot the name)
if you want a combo option and have red, Godo and Helm of the Host. Infinite number of attack steps of a 3/3 on the ground, fetching out every equipment in the process.
Gratuitous Violence, Dictate of the Twin Gods, and Mogis, God of Slaughter. The first two lean heavily on the damage-dealing side of Judith with Mogis to help with damage and keeping the opponent's boards clear.
I like the deck techs before the game knights. It offers a sneak peek before the episode and kinda helps generate hype. When you watch game knights you see the decks in action then when the deck tech comes out it's like ehhhhh I already saw the deck why watch the tech.
I greatly prefer you guys doing the deck techs before Game Knights. I think it'll be more fun to know how the decks work so when you watch, you can see things coming together.
I think Bontu the Glorified would be an auto include. he is a sacrifice outlet that is indestructable, lets you scry, and then you can attack with him on top of it if you want. Synergizes with Judith and with the token producing effects since his ability is instant speed.
Judith's two abilities work together in a deck that wants to attack all the time. The creatures get a power boost so your opponent doesn't want to take the damage, but they also don't really want to block and kill your creatures either because they'll still take damage.
I have a lot of similar cards in my Sek'kuar, Deathkeeper deck, and I can attest that Reassembling skeleton is the probably most valuable creature in that deck! Also, a great sac outlet creature is Thermopod, get a red mana for sac'ing a creature.
May I also suggest trying Bankrupt in Blood from the new set as a sack outlet. The card is 1B/1Colorless card draw that requires you to sacrifice 2 creatures to cast.
Note: have not watched the full episode as of yet, due to heading to work ATM. So all my questions are based off of the deck lists. 1) why no flayer of the hatebound? You have several dudes that come back. Makes sense to get some extra value from them. 2) no jar of eyeballs? I consider this a highly underrated card, especially in decks that want stuff to die. It's kinda a pseudo tutor every turn. I consider it just as good as black market. 3) did you consider nim devourer? This is a pick few people think of, but hear me out. You bring it back on upkeep, then sac itself to its ability. Rinse, repeat. Even getting 2-3 death triggers just off of this upkeep effect isn't bad, and combos well with the cards I mentioned above, and several in the deck.
If you're running Mikaeus and Deathmantle, why not run Murderous Redcap and Puppeteer Clique as well? Especially Clique, who, by itself, can give you FOUR nontoken creatures to sacrifice.
Yes actually they dont make super powerful decks because they want interesting games for the show. Comboing off on turn 5 isn’t interesting Its why the guilds of ravnica is disliked more then others, josh is just running away for half the game
It’d be interesting to Judith Infect with cards to Phyrexian or Grafted Exoskeleton. It’d be cool too if you have around 10+ creatures and then Tainted Strike Judith in response and just straight kill someone.
Purphoros, God of the Forge and Impact Tremors might be cool in this deck since you would get to inflict damage when creatures enter the field then as well as when they leave. Another one that might be cool would be Erebos, God of the Dead. Not only do you get card draw, but you also prevent your opponents from gaining any of the life back that they will inevitably lose from this deck.
Goblin bombardment, Phyrexsis, and Grafted Exoskeleton would be great includes. Giving Judith infect means u only have to hit everyone for ten, really turns up the clock. Bombardment basically doubles Judith's damage output and you already want Sac outlets.
Rakdos would be so dope... I'm thinking on making a Showstopper deck that doesn't really try to win but aims to f up the board completely. Best loss is when you die happy.
HEY, Josh, I wanted to say thanks for all the advice you give on ur videos. I'm new to MTG and EDH, I've just made my first deck. It's with atraxa, it's A +1/+1 deck I've only have played maybe 5 games with lol put I'm having some fun

Draft’em MtG But that doesn’t rhymes
nice channel
Roses are red,
voilets are blue,
some things are just one,
but Izzet is the two.
That's a pretty interesting way to do it. Specially with new commanders.
May I also suggest trying Bankrupt in Blood from the new set as a sack outlet. The card is 1B/1Colorless card draw that requires you to sacrifice 2 creatures to cast.
Another combo that josh can use is gravecrawler and phyrexian altar. And make sure that josh controls judith and a zombie creature and tada.
Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, plenty of sack outlets and NO Walking Ballista? Trying to keep the power level in check?
Phillip Bouille Literally any black deck could run Mikaeus and Triskelion but that combo gets boring the more you see it
@@kuro_nogazaki True, but in this case, it fits with the rest of the theme. It's not just for the sake of having an infinite combo.
Yes actually they dont make super powerful decks because they want interesting games for the show. Comboing off on turn 5 isn’t interesting
Its why the guilds of ravnica is disliked more then others, josh is just running away for half the game
It’d be interesting to Judith Infect with cards to Phyrexian or Grafted Exoskeleton. It’d be cool too if you have around 10+ creatures and then Tainted Strike Judith in response and just straight kill someone.
Awesome video as always. I like the Judith deck tech quite a bit.
this came out at the perfect time. i was starting my homework when i got the post notification
Also Gorgon's Head is an equipment that gives deathtouch. 1 to cast 2 to equip. Not bad compared to gorgon's flail.
Wheres the murderous redcap? Mike and redcap go infinite with a sac outlet
Don't even need the sac outlet if Judith is out, just have Redcap target himself and machine gun everything down with her trigger.
44:15 Look no further than Unstable my friend, Count von Doom says "Destroy target player"!
Thanks for the deck tech guys definitely building Judith soon seems sweet
On the destroy target player card, MaRo said that Door to Nothingness was supposed to say destroy target player, but it didn't work in the rules.
they did print it though on the Baron of Count from Unstabel, which is a nice callback.
Goblin bombardment, Phyrexsis, and Grafted Exoskeleton would be great includes. Giving Judith infect means u only have to hit everyone for ten, really turns up the clock. Bombardment basically doubles Judith's damage output and you already want Sac outlets.
I need more wholesome cardkingdom stories plz
Rakdos would be so dope... I'm thinking on making a Showstopper deck that doesn't really try to win but aims to f up the board completely. Best loss is when you die happy.
I love that she says, non token creatures. It makes for a different build than every other deck like that. They need to do that more.
Judith on the field with ashnods altar, Bog initiate, and resembling skeleton.
Thank god you pronounced her name right, I don't know how but another youtuber couldn't pronounce such an easy and common name
HEY, Josh, I wanted to say thanks for all the advice you give on ur videos. I'm new to MTG and EDH, I've just made my first deck. It's with atraxa, it's A +1/+1 deck I've only have played maybe 5 games with lol put I'm having some fun
I'm pretty sure all the Gruul viewers prefer the old ways.
