Thanks 4 the review and lunch Mike ily
Thanks for the opportunity bro. Had a blast! Can't wait for your next build ;)
I just wanna know how the hell you handle that much power in such a tiny car.. must be scary af.. they drive so well stock.. could do good with an extra 50hp on stock... But it's fun... But 700... Dam
How much you want for it
It's parted out already
Damn, 350hp would be terrifying in that car, can't imagine double that
It's exhilarating. Scary in a good way. Lots of fun but gotta be careful lol
I'm at 350 now, and it's perfect for the car for balance. Of course I'll be pushing it much further eventually as I get more comfortable with the car.
mr2 used to be called a poor man's Ferrari.
but now i think Ferrari is just a rich man's swapped mr2
LOL
Lol, the fact you tuned it to sound exactly like a 458 hahahahaaa
Different world sitting shotgun. Love my Spyder for the windy north bay hill roads up the coast from the Golden Gate Bridge. Lots of fun passing old & young tech money dudes in their supercars they don't know how to drive making their cars look like sad stallions locked up in stall mode unable to run wild. So many waste of cars up here.
As long as we enjoy our ride :)
How do you turn the power steering off with the key? I have a zzw30 and had no idea lol.
Very nice build. I have a mint, low miler 2005 TTE. Lovely little cars.
Agreed!
Just started a K24 engine on the shipping pallet check out the video 🤘 it is destined for an 1991 MR2 I picked up. Good video
Good luck with your build!
Dope vid man ! Tuned in
Appreciate that brotha!!
I'm with Dylan and his small car love. So far I have only owned Del Sols, but looking into getting a MR2... I also want an Elise but their prices and they vanished from the market.
Yeah Dylan is having the same price trouble with the Lotus Elise right now... just so damn expensive. Prices have shot up so much since we filmed this back in January... then again everything is expensive now so #fuckme I guess. Anyway, power to weight never gets old. I would like to get an mr2 spyder at some point now after driving one and I fully recommend it to you as well. Don't worry though, I'll have some badass del sols on the channel too!
How much does he want?, I've had 11 mr2 spyders only one had a swap and it was just a stock 2zzge with exhaust and intake, always wanted to scoop up a k swap
Car has been parted out. He was tired of the lowball offers. Subscribe and stay tuned because when he builds his k swap 900 hp lotus, you won't wanna miss it!
And WOW 11 mr2-s? You're a real mr2 enthusiast haha
how do you address the drivetrain weaknesses?
Build the transmission. Gotta get it done
@@MaxSpeedMike Yes but "how"?? Of course we build it. but if you go up to a shop and say "please build the transmission. I wanna hold 700hp" they're just gonna give you a blank stare.
What brand of drop-in axles are available to hold the power?? Are after market gears even readily available online or does this all have to be custom made and cost 30 grand? What other specific weakpoints do we need to address?? these are the questions I'm asking.
Gotcha. Hit up @dylanriha on instagram. He was the owner of this beast. He built it himself and is extremely smart when it comes to these k swaps, especially in MR2s.
My spyder has the looks, but not the power.still so fun to drive,& i loved that saying (its not fast but you can drive it fast) i feel that way when im driving mine! I've got 60k miles on my stock 1zz, the car is heavily modded cept mechanically the only thing ive done so far is precat removal with full stainless magnaflow exhaust.sounds great but its a tad quieter than i like,im thinking of straight pipe. Have been considering having mwr swap me out for the 2zz with supercharger & a tune, but at like $11k, I'd end up with around 240hp. I know thats enuff to have alot of fun with,it just feels like thats a butt load of $ to get 100 hp more. Im not a super mechanical guy but there are vids with step by step swap instructions on youtube.just kinda frightens me cuz this car is my baby. Any thoughts from any1 bout other suggestions or known mechanic shops that could do something like that cheaper would def be appreciated! Please check out my spyder on my channel & let me know if you think what ive done to it so far looks good or not lol. Thnx everyone
You're better off k swapping it for that price. Bolt ons and a tune qith a k swap will get you 250 whp all day. Naturally aspirated and less headache than boosting a motor. More reliable too! Up to you though. Personally i like the mr-s with some mods too. Slow isnt always a bad thing!
@@MaxSpeedMike thnx for the advice man! Im wondering if i pick up a k20a or a k24 myself what they would charge me to swap it.
@@bullfrogzbodyshop find out before you buy a motor. Ask them and do as much reaearch yourself as possible. You can also tackle the swap yourself. It'll teach you so much
@@MaxSpeedMike thnx man
What roll bar is that
Hit up @dylanriha on instagram
Also RIP spyder market. Now they're all 7k+ for a decent stock one
Yeah I've been browsing. It's insane!
I got mine for free in 2020. Finding a second one is gonna be rough. Lol
@@johnnyloveee shieeeet good luck my dude
So glad I've had mine since 2008 and never giving her up
@@Raisoko good buy bro. I want one after doing this video!
Great review. I am so glad to hear about the weakness in 1st and 2nd gear. I thought its just my set up
Thank you brotha! Just gotta get a good gear set
I need more videos of of mr2 spyders like this! I would’ve done something similar to mine by now if my sti didn’t blow the head gasket and I decided to go all out on it.
I'm sure your STI is really fun too!
I will get more mr-s builds on the channel. I wouldn't mind buying one myself
This is how to die epicly
LOL despite the deathtrap numbers with power to weight, the car was amazingly planted and felt extremely solid. Was very impressed. So much so that I would like to own an mr2 spyder at some point
@@MaxSpeedMike honestly deathtrap numbers mean nothing to me, I doubt these cars are really as deadly as they say. It's quite often the driver that makes the difference, case in point being the Dodge Viper, most of deaths related to it were because the car was being driven for the first time by rich folks with no car knowledge
I have one. It is scary af over 120mph because of the short wheel base and insanely responsive steering. With that much power it goes from 35-150 in like 4 seconds and the slightest touch of the steering wheel and it jumps. I spun doing 130 shifting into 5th because there was a slight curve in the road.
We went th speed limit during the video ;)
I agree with ya, at those speeds it feels as though the front is lifting. You don't get much control, but the sketchyness adds to the fun haha
Just gotta be safe out there
These cars were made for the twisties, not drag racing. The steering is very precise, similar to a Lotus Elise. Be careful man, lol.
@@vltruan always. But especially In a car that can chirp the tires in 5th gear that's extra heavy in the ass end
@@vltruan you right tho. An ideal power level for the spyder is about 350hp I was goin to swap to a smaller turbo and detune/returned it for mid range response. 350hp is plenty for straight line speed(your still destroying most nitrous vettes and hellcats) but not so much boost your dealing with excessive lag or hitting boost while trying to turn and change gears.
@@cyruslever586 I have K24 in mine, 246 hp at the wheels. and that little car is scary. I respect it.
Love the license plate lol ... Keep it up champ!
"Spooder" haha
Thanks brotha! I got more vids coming 😎
Love this guy, down to earth and seems like he couldn’t give a shit what others do .
He's got the Lotus build coming! Man of his word
Wow I wish I’m there with you
Love you Mike
From NY❤️🙏
I just bought a 2002 mr2 spyder for 9k and I don’t regret it!
Hell yeah man! Enjoy!
Another great review and cool car! Nice seeing something different and bad ass!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks brotha!! I try to showcase all sorts of builds here. Many more to come!
as soon as the modification came out
Wow ! , Wow ! , Wow! - 700BHP in an MR2 Spyder - OMG !. This car is incredible and that's an understatement. Well done that man 👍👍
Thanks for watching! Dylan built an amazing car. He is now building a 900 hp k swapped lotus Elise like he mentioned in the video. We'll do a video once it's done :)
700hp not bhp, dunno why you british use "bhp"
good jobba !!
Thank you!
How much did the build cost
What's an ass turbo?
Lol i said "big ass turbo"
Wish I saw this sooner
That would be to scary imo lol. That car must be a riot.
It is haha I loved it
Dylan is working on a 900 hp k swap lotus Elise now. Stay tuned cuz I'll have him on the channel when the car is up and running :)
Dam
Let's do a vid with yours ;)
Does anyone know where he got that 3-gauge pod A-pillar? I need a LHD one with 3 pods.
Hit him up @dylanriha on instagram
@@MaxSpeedMike TY! Big help!
@@MixMasterMaj you got it brotha
😳😳😳 insane
Right!? Loved this car!
Kyle from boosted boiz has entered the chat.
Haha that'd be sick if he watches this
I’ve been binging your videos and the more I watch the more I like the channel bro. The Kia stinger guy was full of crap and everything he said was bs but other than that video I’ve liked all of the other ones. I hope the channel blows up soon!! You deserve it
I see your comments, I appreciate you watching so many of them! Means a lot to me as this is something I truly, truly enjoy
Michael, owner of the stinger, was a really nice guy. He drove 15 hours from st louis. I never had anyone drive to me before. I always go to them to make it more convenient. The car was a good daily, that's about it. Trans is lacking, and fun factor is less because of how heavily and refined it is. Since you have an s2k, you and I obviously prefer our older, more raw cars. For me, a daily has to be fun above all else. Otherwise, everyday mundane tasks, will stay that way. Whereas getting groceries in my miata, or taking my ej8 civic to go to the office etc, makes it way more fun than it should be.
@@MaxSpeedMike it’s why I liked the guy that had the fiesta ST, I feel like those can be the perfect daily. You get all the dope turbo noises, it’s fairly peppy for what it is. You won’t be sitting in traffic mind numbingly bored you know?
Yeah Russ was awesome haha Definitely. I have to have manual for daily driving. For me, I got used to NYC traffic in my manual cars, now that I don't have to deal with that anymore, I get to enjoy manual cars daily. Auto/dct just isn't as much fun for me. Fun factor is #1 requirement for me in a daily haha
@@MaxSpeedMike it’s why I got rid of the A90 Supra. As cool as it was owning a “Supra” I just couldn’t with the paddle shifter. Maybe when the 6spd comes out at the end of the year I’ll get another one but I just can’t do the auto. I had a GTR and I hated it, my neighbor has a huracan and I’m like ugh! Why do they have to be auto? The duramax yes, I’ll take an auto truck all day bc it’s meant for it. But I refuse to even acknowledge that the huracan isn’t a manual. Lambo is just an expensive lawn ornament now
@@TheBigChad take a look at my skyline videos. My friend Imports them, think you'd be interested his old school jdm cars. I feel the same way about the r35 gtr, and the supra. When the manual drops, might look into one as a daily ;)
How much it cost you do do the whole thing?
He had it for sale at one point for $25,000. Maybe that should give you a good idea. It doesn't have to cost that much, but you should do good, high quality parts from the jump.
God I love these little cars
Me too! This was the first one I've ever been in and driven, i love em!
of course it's a florida man
Yeah. Florida has a ton of fast and well built cars. Tons of drag strips, autox and race tracks.
I'm so I love with mr2s
I am too after driving this one. I drove a stock one recently and still love it. Might have to build one for the channel sometime
Sick mr2, I really need to swap the engine on mine
You should! They're amazing
Sameee, now I dont want to go with a 2zz
