In an interview about 25 years ago, Fred Migliore asked Dan about the Last Nail and Dan regretfully informed Migliore that the woman who inspired this song had passed away at a young age. For those who are only familiar with Fogelberg's "radio" songs, they are really missing out. The Last Nail is just one of a countless number of gems that most have never heard.
The single most underrated and overlooked artist in the history of popular music ...and I have no idea why ! It's an absolute disgrace the way this late great musician has been treated by his peers . It s way overdue for a massive change in attitudes . Dan's whole body of work is quite exceptional .
One of my favorite Fogelberg songs, you cant go wrong any of his songs, all so good. Of course we all have favorites. Please go deeper, i recommend Tucson Arizona (gazette), this one will pull at your heart
Lovely choice Neal. It’s amazing to think that he usually played every instrument on his recordings and layered all of his own vocals and harmonies to create masterpieces of his original songs. Huge talent. So sad to lose him so early. RIP Dan F. Thanks Harri and Neal 🌺✌️
Love all of your Fogelberg reactions. This song was about a girl from high school and college who he had a desperate crush on (Donna Gibbons). He pursued her but she never really reciprocated and broke his heart. A lot of his early work was about her. She became an actress and was in a few shows but passed away in 1994.
There is never been a greater songwriter in the history of classic music. Not Lennon not McCartney nobody. Dan Fogelberg to the people who have listened to him is a legend. He is sadly missed. How he’s not in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame is a mystery and a crime Dan could do songs, like The Last Nail he could rock like As the Raven Flies. On most of his albums, he played all the guitars all the keyboards just a genius. I miss him.
❤❤❤ I’m so glad you’re enjoying Dan’s music. I love that new people are discovering him and his beautiful music! He has a song for every emotion! Love him and Happy New Year, Harri! 🎉
One of a handful of Fogelberg songs that niggled at my heart, mind, and spirit until I became a poet in an attempt to try and create something that affected other people the way his songs affect me.
Thank you for reacting to Dan Fogelberg, love his music. I wish more channels would listen to him he is so overlooked in my opinion. You can't go wrong with any of his songs but may I recommend a few to you. The Reach, Ghosts, There's A Place In The World For A Gambler and a deep album track he has only done live Don't Let That Sun Go Down. Give a listen and enjoy. Thanks again.
Great song and as always Dan's storytelling is beautiful.Such heartfelt lyrics, great vocals and instrumentation also. Always enjoy your reactions! Dan has so many great songs can I request a song called Face the Fire which has a really important message. Thanks so much.
Dan Fogelberg was an amazing vocalist. I love all of his songs. As usual, Hari, I loved your reaction. AND, I also think you are too kind to ever have this happen to you. 😊Thank you, @dentonflorian7405 for the backstory of this song. And, Thank you @pncombies for this beautiful song. 😊I love it!❤ Great selection!
Dan recorded this playing every instrument and every vocal on this whole project which he recorded while he was back in his hometown of Peoria Illinois and his father was dealing with serious heart health issues. Every song on this project is untouched with the exception of the addition of taking his drum tracks out and having Russ Kunkel replace the drums on the album. His music was performed many tours with just him on stage with his guitar and his piano and you could hear a pin drop during his songs, MTV went to his solo acoustic show and came up with MTV Unplugged because of his performance. Think about that… seriously.
One of my favorites - from when it came out. Here is some good footage from his 1997 solo acoustic show. He did this song and it was a very pleasant surprise. Just Dan and his guitar and piano. This song starts at 13:40 - even more poignant - it shows how great a talent Dan was. ruclips.net/video/ME5t8FtrNSM/видео.htmlsi=2bkPTudDAIigqwJk
Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light..... He was a phenom never to be duplicated! Makes my heart smile to read all these comments on the artist I spent my entire life listening to and seeing in concert! My favorite was Red Rocks 2002.
@@carminebokesch1279 I was super lucky, had tickets for a show on this tour at home (San Jose CA - at a great venue - Mountain Winery in Saratoga CA). I was traveling a lot to the DC area that summer and he was playing at Wolf Trap which was real close to where I was staying. I bought a ticket at the door and bonus, they just released ADA seats in the 4th row...so good
I've seen your reactions to several Dan Fogelberg songs and love them. If you haven't heard or reacted to them yet, you should treat yourself to yet, another side, sound of Dans. Two suggestions I have are Over and Over (a great bluesy tune featuring piano, old 60's 70's organ sound, sax, and a vocal track with soooo much feeling. Another is Road Beneath My Wheels, a blues acoustic guitar tune, again with his soulful vocals. Both are on Live at Fox Theater album. Enjoy, and would love to see your reaction to them
PS- Some Dan's other amazing songs include the entire Home Free album, the entire Souvenirs album, The entire Captured Angel Album (which you are listening now obviously), Scarecrow's Dream, The Beggar's Game, There's a Place in the World for a Gambler, Tell Me to My Face, In the Passage, Mountain Pass, Sutter's Mill, Believe in Me, Tucson, Arizona (Gazette), the entire High Country Snows album, The Spirit Trail, Mountains to the Sea, and The Colors of Eve. The Colors of Eve is probably his most moving song as it was a song he wrote for his wife before he died. The man's catalog is insane.
Now you've discovered a little known classic known mostly by hardcore Fogelberg fans. One of his best songs.
Such a minstrel. The industry back in the day, just didn’t get Dan. So glad he stayed true to himself.
One of my favorite songs. This song captures my heart.
Me too! You're an Angel!

Tucson is wonderful. Great percussion in that song with a long build and strong story. Layers and layers of music.
Great selection! Dan Fogelberg sure takes me back to a great time in life. RIP Dan
@t-bird Thank you!
One of my all-time favorites.
NO ONE wrote lyrics like Dan.

A favorite. If I could just pick one! Thank you for his remembrance!❤
I love his early stuff, and this is a favorite of mine from his third album.
Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!
Still missing Dan and his music.

Love, love this song
You're welcome, Agnete. I love it, too. Finally got it off of my playlist. 😂
That’s life. Life is about love and loss.

I was at the show in Nashville from that tour. This song got my tears flowing pretty well! GREAT GREAT SHOW!

Dan FOGELBERG 'S Another auld Lang syne is a perfect song for this time of year.
Same Old Lang Syne...I think Harri has reviewed that one.

Dan plays all the instruments except for the drums (and the 'String Arrangements'.)
With the passing of Less McCann how about a reaction to “Compared to what”
