What this shows is all these musicians sat down one day and started as a beginner and practice every day (or night) and work the hours in. It is a beauty and sight to see the testament of the determination of all of these musicians. This is what the Hip Hop Rap culture doesn't understand. All of these musicians put the Lonnnnnnnng hours. Yes for all real instrumentalist musicians every where.
When JSU play Aint worried about nothing, it made me think about why SU dont play nun like it. The band directors think the music is too ghetto smfh and SU has the best writers in the SWAC. sad but true. They can write a damn symphony song if they pleased.
Southern had to play holy grail only because they knew jsu was going to play it. They thought that was all they had but got suprised by that aint worried bout nothing and just like power they had to get a holy grail
We don’t speed was actually a decent response to Ain’t worried bout nothing, but they should have been playing directly at JSU. The side angle lessened the effect
first of all, both bands were great. JSU was cleaner as far as attacks and releases. Southern was the louder band, hands down. The holy grail battle: Southern was louder, but JSU's arrangement was better, except for the final chord. Last but not least, I was hype listening to JSU's "aint worried bout nothing".. lol
If you had to honestly gauge the situation by SU runnin that Holy Grail back, its pretty obvious that they didn't see I ain't worried about nothing coming. It didn't destroy them or anything but JSU stole momentum with that change up. Way to close the show before leaving. If you were already favoring JSU then that might have sealed the deal for you. Good job both bands.
The best footage of the game. Better than bandtube & everybody else. On this video you can actually judge the holy grail battle. Su had a little more power of course but at the end of the day its all based on quality and the arrangement which gave jsu the win on that. Then su came back with the part after the drum break & as you can hear, southerns is in a higher pitch. so if su wasn't louder, which was the point they were trying to get across, they would have lost bookoo cool points/respect. When jsu came back with "Aint worried bout nun" that ended the show with a nice comeback. I dont think su would have known how to respond to that. Good job to both bands though. I'd call it a tie.
Shit not fair because for one they got JSU in that tight ass corner how can you get balanced in a tight ass space with a huge band like lets be serious if JSU was directly in front of them shit would have been way different
This is coming from a BCU fan jsu took this 1 by a slim margin.....But neither 1 is fuckin w BCU halftime show but both bands will fuck us up in the 5th quarter because our sorry ass outdated playbook
kkpsi i "know" Haymer said numbers would increase but I doubt if it's because of his ego or what people say , or because jsu had a decent outing for Boombox. I was there and the fact remains that SU is clearly on another level. What HBCU has the means to have a larger band for the reasons you stated ?
First off I love both bands! Whenever your challenging you got to put your best foot forward especially when your up against another power house. JSU for the win on this one and that's only because the SU messed up and I mean ONLY! SU has awesome articulation on them horns and musically well balanced.
I'm guessing this is SU home field since JSU is up in a cramp corner. Not a good way to treat the visiting band. You can't claim a win if they can't get balanced out like you. "100".
fo real tho! That echo though... It's another awesome one at 27:49 and 28:03-04. JSU rocked that ish! JSU-1 SU-(goose egg) Sorry southern... Much love and respect from one trumpet player to the next. #noshade
The first thing that came out of Haymers mouth was...."well...we're definitely gonna increase the SIZE of the band"...........you know why. Cause he has an ego....and he hates to hear people say....man J State got with y'all...man Taladega was blowing on y'all.......so he wants to leave no doubt...... It will be interesting...shiddddd he might try and march 250-275
jsu line up formation carry more power but over all im a fan of both schools southern the only university without quints very unusual but still sound good
Respect to both sides but the boom got it 2013! of course there's always doubters that's SU fans for you lol no when you been defeated. SU folk act like SU never looses battles. Its rare but it happens.
Both bands are certainly the Swac's best and I'm SU all day long. But I would have to agree BCU is one of the best I've seen these days! I think this classic should be moved to a neutral field!! Holy Grail goes to SU all the way!!
Who care about JSpoo gettin best HBCU? Lmao. Last I check the U was voted the # 2 marching band in the nation. Under The ohio state.. Take notes children.. -Human jukebox c/09 -SPHID SPR 2k10
Jsu needs to just do fast upbeat songs and leave the slower songs to su jsu is great they just can't do slow temp songs like su can with the power supply has to back it up not saying su can't do upbeat songs to because they can
You know whats funny to me is the fact that yall know so damn much about jsu and SU but was never in band all these old people talking shyt have yall don't even know what the hell yall be talking about anyway
Brothers jsu is cool , they just ain't on Southern's level. Jsu gets SWAC band of the year and that brief moment of glory was immediately trumped when Southern was named the 2nd best in amongst all NCAA schools. See what I mean by another level , I'm just stating ..........the FACTS......Hypeking. Lol !
Yeah but unfortunately until you get that brass ring and reach NCAA HALL OF FAME status....#2 band means nothing, so u got it backwards my friend SU is not on JSU'S level. ...#FACTS
Timothy Miles "hall of fame" is from an accomplishment a loooooooonnnngg time ago. The present band is merely a representation. There are a lot of great athletes, musicians, and bands that WAS good that hasn't made their respective HOF. The present Boom does not measure up to what they were back in the day. That's how HOF works !
C MAC hey, you may have a point there, but if you look at it like a resume` if you have #2 band in American on your list and I have H.O.F. band on mine.....which one do you think people will look at as more prestigious! True it was from past band history but it's on the resume.....and to say they don't measure up to past bands don't make sense this is one of the best editions of the band in the schools history (not the best, I think that was the 2010 edition was that) but this band...Taylor has built a monster.
Timothy Miles I respect your opinion, to me Taylor has added numbers and that's it. I take nothing from their past accomplishments and to answer your question I'd look at the #2 band 1st as opposed to the HOF band. A former member of the boom, also a VP with my company , from '72 has repeatedly told me that the present day boom is no comparison to the past. As I stated before jsu is cool , but they just made the band bigger and I don't think their sound (not their volume) compares to Southern's. The way SU has raised the bar with far less resources than Ohio St. Or any PWI really makes them the #1 band in the land in my book.
C MAC Hey same hey bruh, respect your opinion also.... (side note, it's awesome to have a normal conversation about rival bands and not trash talk or degrade each other) I can agree with the guy u spoke with, its just something about the ol' school bands that just screams classic, they played with a lot of emotion. I can say now a days the bands do play what's popular or on the radio. As far as sound, for a big band the boom has one of the cleanest sounds (again for a big band their size) around. I hate the fact that there are SU fans that say the Boom is trying to sound like SU when they are 2 COMPLETELY different styles and sounds. Now I do like SU and yes, I went to JSU but I will admit that the sound that SU produce is absolutely, ridiculously, amazing. To play at a higher octave on a consistent basis on numerous songs......nobody around can do it like that not even the Boom. And if all HBCU bands had the resources of these big PWI you would see a few hbcu bands on that list.
Good ass battle.. I see why SU didn't want any talk any 2014. Str8 to the point in dat gym. This year left to many open ended questions.. Aint worried bout nothing... Dumm.. Stranger in my house... Played with true Soul.. Holy Grail on both ends.. To many open ended questions...
Jsu was cool , I don't feel the hype over Ain't Worried bout Nothin, just a cool beginning. Southern's sound and clarity separated them from the opposition as it has always done . Good job jsu but .............
How do JSU sound like a high school band when they got the Best HBCU band of the year award? Please enlighten me about how you came up with this pitiful, invalid conclusion? Please. And JSU and SU the top 2 SWAC bands. So please tell me how JSU sound like a high school band cause I might be missing something. Honey Give me a list Of all the high schoolishness that you see and then I'll compare your list to SU and other bands to. Thank you.
Boy! I see why you call yourself Dope. MEAC bands don't sound better. Some of them some the same as SWAC bands. Most MEAC bands play with the balanced sound. While some don't. Some play with the screamining trumpet sound like all SWAC bands seem to play. SWAC bands play for power.
Everyone keeps talking about JSU last song. Powerful it was but the 5th quarter is not based on one song. Overall, SU showed versatility in their selections. SU lived up to their name, THE HUMAN JUKEBOX and JSU focused on how loud they could sound. Not degrading but JSU sounded much better in 2012 then they did in 2013. I shouldn't have to listen extra hard at what trumpets are playing due to French Horns, Baritones, and Bass Drums covering the voice of ther band.
Neither band really "focused" on power, they are both Powerful bands by default, the two most powerful in the SWAC, the only power tunes really played were SU's Holy Grail, and JSU's Ain't Worried (JSU's HG was not a power tune)...Both bands were pretty balanced and did what they respectfully do, these two bands are past competing over who's the most powerful, that's what sub-par bands still do, it's more on sounding balanced, clean, original, diverse and expressing their own unique styles in the stands and on the field...I think the problem with most people who criticize JSU particularly when at BOOMBOX is they 'assume' JSU is trying to sound like SU when they just being the BOOM...if you listen to the BOOM expecting to hear SU then you WON'T appreciate the BOOM for what it is...and 2012 was a good year for the BOOM but I disagree about them sounding better.
Who came back here from Boombox 23? ✋
Jsu came in with a Prince produced song by the Time...777-9311.. never thought I'd ever here that from a marching band. DOPE
Ain't Worried Bout Nun left SU confused
Naw bruh...Dazed and Confused
You ain't lying 😂
They're still confused !!
The Boom pissed all over that stadium. They deserve to sit on the Home side now!!!
😂
I loved the 2013 Boom

Aint worried bout nothing did it for me and im a hard core SU fan But that song SU played after JSU was weak.....JSU got em this time.

@@TDD07 they wouldn’t sound the same or give the same vibe the boom gives, lets bet honest
Y'all argue all you want...me, I'm going to just sit back and enjoy both of them!
it keeps going back to the first song Jackson played in the middle of the middle of their holy grail
Alicia Keys "You Don't Know My Name"
Alright JSU...
Southern had to play holy grail only because they knew jsu was going to play it. They thought that was all they had but got suprised by that aint worried bout nothing and just like power they had to get a holy grail
Cant no one this year touch tha Boom they too tuff!!!
We don’t speed was actually a decent response to Ain’t worried bout nothing, but they should have been playing directly at JSU. The side angle lessened the effect
That Shaft goes hard as fugg!!!! Well executed Boom

KristianRuffin That last chord is what sealed that W! That chord was perfect!!
If you had to honestly gauge the situation by SU runnin that Holy Grail back, its pretty obvious that they didn't see I ain't worried about nothing coming. Sooo why isn't it
SU vs JSU
At the Bayou Classic
That'd be a lot better than Grambling
Well first off "bayou" is only for Louisiana teams. Is JSU in Louisiana nah. I don't think so so sir down dumb ass
Well they're already considering other schools for the bayou classic... and Yes even some that aren't in Louisiana... so yeah
***** it defeats the name
I agree with you in that sense. But it is being considered... I imagine they would just change the name too.
Might be the dumbest comment of all time Lmaoo

Both bands were good. Most of these comments are from band members you aren't being objective.
Whats the first song jsu played????????
The JUKE ain't worried bout nuthin ! If anything jsu should be worried about Nathan ( as in Haymer ) being the new Director.
