The Speed Era of NASCAR was insane. Going at almost the speed of a 1980’s Indycar with over double the weight is just astonishing. It makes you think how fast the cars would’ve gone after 1987 had it not been for Bobby Allison’s crash at Talladega that year.
"Rusty Wallace completed a 2004 test for NASCAR at Talladega in which he used an unrestricted motor to complete average lap speeds of 221 mph (356 km/h) and top speeds near 230 mph (370 km/h)." Wallace noted the cars would go faster in a draft, besides tinkering from the crews, perhaps 235mph tops. Today's cars could possibly go even faster, but are said to be harder to drive.
@@xxxYYZxxx Yeah, driving a car faster than 230mph would cause it to be incredibly unstable and tracks like Daytona and Talladega could potentially become death zones like how large ovals were for Indycar.
@@austinreed5805 Your point is why I think NASCAR is such an ideal series. Because it's not plausible to race much faster in any series, Cup cars being built like tanks can survive multi car wrecks that would destroy open wheel cars and kill the drivers.
220mph in a 3500lb brick on bias ply tires. All the firesuits back then had extra room sewed into the front of the pants to accommodate the enormous balls of the drivers.
That was awesome! I have been on iracing for 8 years and haven't done an Official Series race in 2 years, as I only run in League races. So, so much better. But this was like a league race. Very enjoyable to watch. Great Win!
I live 50 minutes south of Watkins Glen International & hearing 43 of those V8’s come flying down the backstretch before the chicane is fuckin awesome. The feeling you get on the first lap by when you get a whiff of high octane racing fuel & the sound gives me goosebumps every time. The cars exhaust pipes are also pointed towards the inside of the track so it’s much louder than on the opposite side of the track. 👍
As a felow European i understand it. in 1997 me and my parents visited Daytona racetrack and I have been a fan of Nascar ever since. I hope to see a race in person next year.
That was the quickest 42 minutes of my life. I watched it from beginning to end and enjoyed every second of it as per usual with your content. I'm very proud that you got that win in only your second iracing entry. Hopefully we will see more of this?
Oh my god, dude I was cheering IRL, that was exciting! That was amazing race, congrats on the win!!! Props to the entire field being so respectful, great drivers all around!
Was the 18 car in this race running up front with you until pit stops (forgot to change fuel amount and screwed myself). Even though I dropped back pretty far, this was easily one of the most fun races I've done on iRacing. Glad it's recorded in full on youtube.
I love the historical race car reviews you have are great but i have definitely like your random races you put on as well. It was exciting watching you go up through the field during my workout this morning. Kept me motivated to keep pushing. 💪
I would absolutely love for you to do a late 80s era NASCAR series. The speed, the looks, the technique; the speed era was unmatched. If you could do something similar to the “1966 season” series, that would be golden. This was an absolutely amazing watch, looking forward to seeing more like this.
much love from the 46 car. chris fleming2. was cruising around youtube and was like wait, i think i was in this race, low and behold i was. pleasure racing with you.
That was great to watch Jake. Great timing for me to watch as next season in iRacing I am adding the 87s to my Lotus79 and Kamel GT series for my team mates and buddies to join and concentrate on :) I just need to work out what the best day to race the 87s is when we have good numbers during the week/weekend :)
This is what i live for, just wish we had a good nascar game but thats never happening again. Damn good job on winnin the rarest race in icrashing man 🎉🏁
Man that was fun to watch. Took me until lap 10 until I seen your face on left top. Lol goes to show you in not a rearview mirror guy. Thanks for sharing vid. Was awesome
Hands down my favorite oval car on the service. This was an amazing race, and great win. Last time i raced these we had a caution at about lap 14 or so and went green after that. I would have to go back and watch the replay but everyone ended up spread out real bad. First and second was way ahead and i was in 5th coming up on 3/4. I figured if we could draft i would be able to catch them as i was already gaining on the leaders but 3/4 were bumper to bumper running about 190 lol. I didnt slow down for them but finished the race in 3rd. Would of been sweet we if would have been able to link up and make it a race at the end.
If you haven't seen it before you should look into the Mooncar league races with this car. Full field of up to 60 guys going at 120% the whole race, almost always 2 and 3 wide with the occasional 4 and 5 wide when things get wild.
Absolutely stellar racing for the full distance, hats off to everyone involved and congrats on the win, Jake! With the Pontiac having been announced, I really gotta give these 87 stock cars a proper go.
lots of corrections, too. go watch a mooncar race sometime, they wreck constantly in Mooncar Lite (the series you must win in order to get invited to the main series) .
you played that perfect on the last lap keeping your car down and forcing the second place car up top . There was no way he was gonna get around you seeing as he had to cover more ground than you ! well played Jake !!! 😊👌
Yeah unfortunately you need triple screens or VR to utilize the whole cockpit. Really brings down the immersion and difficulty of it without a proper mirror. I mean you could use a huge FOV to see it but who does that lol.

Don’t know how with all the downforce todays cars would be harder.
Never thought I'd watch a full 50 laps of iRacing NASCAR one day, and yet I gripped my seat for the whole duration. That was awesome!
Same here I just couldn't look away
I just did and I'm not a Nascar fan
I saw your comment before watching and thought to myself "no way I watch this all the way through too." Well here I am 42 min later...
That was awesome! I have been on iracing for 8 years and haven't done an Official Series race in 2 years, as I only run in League races. So, so much better. But this was like a league race. Very enjoyable to watch. Great Win!
As a european I never thought I'd be so captivated for 42 minutes watching an onboard of an iRacing race with 87's nascars. But I was
Beware, for once you acquire a taste for flat-out oval racing, everything else looks slow by comparison.

It's not something you can trusty my convey with words. It's an experience.
No one I'd rather finish second to. Great race, well deserved win.
Great racing with you! Was so surprised to get such a clean race like that. Fingers crossed for more in the future
That was an awesome battle!
I would actually get a new iracing subscription just to do the nascar stuff for banter streams.
That was the quickest 42 minutes of my life. I watched it from beginning to end and enjoyed every second of it as per usual with your content. I'm very proud that you got that win in only your second iracing entry. Hopefully we will see more of this?
You know it's a good race when you have to contemplate strategy at 200mph
This reminded me why I LOVED iRacing back 15 or so years ago...Craftsman Trucks Series...so much fun!!!
I absolutely love the car pulling a full Cruis'n USA wheelie @3:38. Haha.
Luckiest people in America this week :
#1 Jake with 50 green flag laps in iRacing.
#2 That guy who won $1.5 billion on the Powerball.
Having been at Talladega for over 25 years, the sound of the cars engines at full song as they speed by is spot on. Amazing job
Hey! I watch you and im in the Home Depot car! What a race with no yellows!
Hell yes. Not all NASCAR entices me, but the chance to drive a certain red Coors Thunderbird really gets my juices flowing!
My heart melted when I saw the Superflo #46 come around.
“Cole, next time by I want you to hit the Pace Car…you’ve hit everything else on the damn track, so I just figured you would want to be perfect…” 😂
Oh my god, dude I was cheering IRL, that was exciting! That was amazing race, congrats on the win!!!
Props to the entire field being so respectful, great drivers all around!

Jake: _"Hey. No need to bump me, Brough."_

8:22 running side by side…good stuff man jus bad luck an mistake on pit row but it’s got you on here miles well make a RUclips channel record racing
I could watch this type of respectful, good iRacing content all day, specially if we're talking about "Speed Era" NASCAR
“We’ve made it two laps without a yellow flag” love it.
I love the historical race car reviews you have are great but i have definitely like your random races you put on as well. It was exciting watching you go up through the field during my workout this morning. Kept me motivated to keep pushing. 💪

Amazing Jake! Loved it, thats the first iRacing race ive watched in full with no skipping.
Was never a NASCAR fan...until today! Amazing Race! Great job by the rest of the split as well.
As a St. Louisan, I incredibly appreciate the Imo's Pizza livery on the car that placed P2. Absolute legend! And congorts on the win! xD
Lmao I actually first noticed the STL flags and then I was like IMOS?? So funny to see outside of this city.
As much as I hate Imos I was pleasantly impressed with the livery. StL represent!
Last week gen 4 was at dega, and the week before the iR 18 was there. It is amazing how clean the races have been.
That was amazing. Not only did I just watch an entirely caution free NASCAR race, but you got the win. You had my attention beginning to finish.
Banger video bro... Like watching a real race. I remember watching NASCAR in 86-87... I was 6.. Good Times...
much love from the 46 car. chris fleming2. was cruising around youtube and was like wait, i think i was in this race, low and behold i was. pleasure racing with you.
This is by far the best single take iRacing video ive seen on RUclips in quite some time. Maybe ever. I've been riveted this whole time.
I still don't get any of the intricacies but was gripped from the start. Awesome job Jake, and well done everyone else for keeping it clean.
What an awesome race 🏁
Your race craft on all simulators is superb.
Amazing race, you could see how bad #33 wanted and was gunning for it in the final stretch. Fantastic stuff.
Great race!! That was definitely the best era for the sport.
Ha... that was an awesome race, I was fully invested. Congrats on the win, it was really great driving & great strategy for only your 2nd race 👍😊
That was so exciting! And because I never skipped forward, I didn't think until the very end that "we" would make it, wow, well done.
End of this race was amazing, you are the man for holding on thought that was epic driving
That was some great clean racing. Congrats on the caution free race win👍. That was fun to watch
WHAT A RACE! I enjoyed every second of it!
DUDE! You ran a caution-free race this? That's unheard of! And you won! Wow, congrats! Thanks for the content.
really enjoy the way you produced this. well done
That was great to watch Jake. Now THAT was awesome!!! Wish it was all like that. This is the new standard!
7:45, It's great to keep it straight. That really was a good job on all drivers, no spins by two drivers and you didn't panic.
Mesmerizing race, glad I found your channel, great stuff on here.
That was a solid race, nice job at the end there holding it down and picking the right lane.
Reminds me of the time we completed lap 1 of an MX Cup C race completely clean. They all crashed in T1 of lap 2 instead. Good race brother!
This was such a great race to watch! Congrats Jake!
I don’t watch nascar, watch tons of other Motorsports, but running nascar in iracing is so much fun
That was a damn good race, good win my dude!
When you get a good group of people, I don't think there's a better combination on iRacing than the 87s and Talladega. Best racing.
Best super speedway race I've seen in a while
Darlington and charlotte are great with these things too. winning a race with it at darlington is probably one of my fondest memories.
what a race, that was incredible. great win!
That was super cool dude, nice win!
Great race sat there and watched it all well done!
I usually hate watching iracing clips... but this was seriously entertaining...
Never thought I'd see a clean race on iracing, let alone in Nascar!
That was a hell of a race. Congratulations.
Just enjoyed your race 6 months later. Congrats on a fine win. 🏆 🙂
This is what i live for, just wish we had a good nascar game but thats never happening again. Damn good job on winnin the rarest race in icrashing man 🎉🏁
iRacing does a pretty okay job with the cup and xfinity cars. But, I know what you mean. A hardcore dedicated NASCAR sim would be incredible.
Fingers crossed for the next NASCAR game.
Beautiful pickup race. Top notch racing
Man that was fun to watch. Took me until lap 10 until I seen your face on left top. Lol goes to show you in not a rearview mirror guy. Thanks for sharing vid. Was awesome

I did eventually get to go to sleep :D
Awesome racing Jake
When I heard talk of taking 2 I winced a little bit but man you executed that to perfection
I fist bumped for you. A Dega win is always exciting. Great driving.
Good to hear some praise.
NIce win there kept the great work!
Holy cow that was incredible!!!
Holy cow man … that was AWESOME.
God there is such a calming aura with these videos.
Your finish reminded me of Greg Sacks' only win in the Cup Series when he did it at Daytona with DiGard in 1985
Dude that was awesome 👏👏
The right foot braking on a super speedway is giving me anxiety. But what a great race.
Awesome stuff mate! 🎉
Absolutely stellar racing for the full distance, hats off to everyone involved and congrats on the win, Jake!
With the Pontiac having been announced, I really gotta give these 87 stock cars a proper go.
nascar's best era for me (pure nostalgia as a spectator. quite dangerous though)
Great stuff, made me resub to iRacing after many years away, I missed some proper oval racing!
That was one of the best races I’ve see by far. Congratulations Jake. Are you streaming on Twitch now?
Not regularly, just for random things!
The unsponsored look is DOPE! What a fuckin' race, great job to all!
had a lot of fun in the one race I did in these, they are incredibly hard to drive on long runs
also whats ur mirror settings imma need em
Man at those speeds the cars gotta be tight as hell the whole race
lots of corrections, too. go watch a mooncar race sometime, they wreck constantly in Mooncar Lite (the series you must win in order to get invited to the main series) .
so you do race online i would love to see more iracing content
Amazing. I like to think the little unsponsored underdog beat the big boys for the unlikely win.
absolute favorite cars can not wait to run in my Leagues 5th Annual 87 500 in January
you played that perfect on the last lap keeping your car down and forcing the second place car up top . There was no way he was gonna get around you seeing as he had to cover more ground than you ! well played Jake !!! 😊👌
Watched his videos from time to time, but first time seeing his face. Bro looks like he stepped off the set of a 1970s car movie.
Fun video. That’s a tough cockpit view. Feels like you should be able to see The whole windshield and all of your rear view mirror not half of it.
Yeah unfortunately you need triple screens or VR to utilize the whole cockpit. Really brings down the immersion and difficulty of it without a proper mirror. I mean you could use a huge FOV to see it but who does that lol.
I also run an ultrawide montior, so i can see a bit more to the left and right than you can in the video
@GPLaps you have the chillest videos. Thanks for making them!!
@@GPLaps Ah yes ok.
@@GPLaps Ultrawide or Superwide?
Jake putting the 17 car back in victor lane where it belongs. You did DW proud.
Great RUclips action. Well done that man.
Now this was some real fuckin' NASCAR... This is what I was watching as a kid😢
If nascar drivers spoke like this during the race, and they broadcast it, I'd watch modern NASCAR. But alas, plus stage racing is an affront to God.
what an incredible race im so jelous
'87 Buick, Noice!!! I miss the racing in the 80s.
Nice job. You made that look easy.
Always nice to find a lobby where the trailer park hasn't shown up drunk
Wow! What a great race!
