I wonder if our Guardian's past life has anything to do with how powerful we are compared to guardians around us. Ex: It would be really cool if there was a twist in final shape where it's revealed that we were chosen to be a disciple of the witness but were struck down by the traveler in the collapse, eventually revived with no memory of the past. It would explain why we've been able to kill almost everything thrown our way, while also wielding darkness (almost)flawlessly.
I mean tbh I don't really know what a disciple of the witness would be doing in the cosmodrome presumably trying to escape cause where we get revived is by a bunch of old cars that were queuing to get away, near launch pads.
@@Cappy_Cat ah good point. Wouldn't make much sense. Just hoping to maybe see some actual dialogue between us and the witness in fs. Maybe he'll approach us to offer a place as a disciple(food for thought)
@@cameronfischer9227 Yeah, hopefully we do lol, I mean the witness is the big bad that's been hyped up all this time, I hope we get a moment like that in the game
@@Cappy_Cat By that same token how could our character be an Awoken on Earth? The Awoken are created after the Collapse. It doesn’t make any sense for our guardian to be presumably someone who died during the Collapse when the Awoken are created from a ship of civilians running from the Collapse. Our character doesn’t have to be a Disciple of the Witness for a similar story beat to occur. If I remember correctly there is a lore card about Savathun teaching her song to a group of humans before the Collapse. Our guardian could have been influenced by her in some way. It would align with Savathun’s goals and would explain why we have faired so well against the Darkness and specifically Hive. If we don’t kill Crota, Crota destroys the Traveler. If we don’t kill Oryx, Oryx destroys the Traveler. Considering the work Savathun put in to hide the Traveler and her role as a traitor, it wouldn’t surprise me if Savathun did something so that humanity would be capable of protecting the Traveler in her absence.
I remember when the exo stranger "we always had it in us" in beyond light. so I think the ghosts connection and our connection to the darkness is a thing.
I think the reason why we dont have our memories is to spare us the ptsd of our death. Theoretically with our awakening in the area we wake, leads you to believe that you were probably a figure trying to save people in the event of the witness' collapse. Where as some probably got wiped out instantly with no sense of the death, we probably witnessed it. We probably felt the pain, fear and emotions of our death as well as others. I also think thats why the Witness took a liking to us. We have retained that emotion in our very core and still we continue on. We come to terms with all our emotions and understand them. We first died overcoming and since we continue to live to overcome.
Its always been my opinion that loosing memories upon resurrection as a guardian is something the travelor designed to be. Not just an unfortunate happenstance. They WANT certain kinds of people to get a redo with no memories and magic powers. But -- memory magic as we now know is a darkness thing. So ghosts being able to rez- wipe memory-- then continue to rez but keep memory? Ya-- i think theres a weeee bit of darkness in them. Think yin-yang. All good has some evil and all evil has some good.
It just occurred to me that the ghost itself is a sphere surrounded by moving almost pyramid shapes, almost like the "final shape". Not sure if this has been acknowledged as I'm not that knowledgeable about it, but perhaps it leads somewhere.
It’s been kinda pointed out… sort of. The cutscene from Lightfall where the pyramids surround the traveler actually resembled a ghost. More specifically, Sagira, but a ghost nonetheless.
The last lore entry shows that Ghosts can only infer what someone was like from their physical attributes (e.g. scars). It literally says it doesn't know about the morals of the person they're resurrecting, which makes sense when you look at the lucent hive and Finch in particular.
I always think that Our "Guardian" is presented as We as player being ressurected, and all this time we Play as fictional future self, saving the universe
The Light and The Dark are tools that take on the attributes of those who wield them. Warriors who have no memories have nothing but what is given to them. They are tools more apt to do what they are told. They are good soldiers.

I think it stands to reason that both the Traveller and the Witness can use light and dark, maybe not fully, but at least partially. It might be because they are physical entities and perhaps not the same entities as the primordial Gardener and Winnower, or perhaps it's a side effect of their transformation into physical beings.
Symbolically I think it's similar to baptism, Christian baptism is not only a ritual of entering a church, but it also is meant to symbolize washing your past sins away and starting a new. The Light forgets while the Darkness remembers. My theory is that the Veil is a sort of hard drive for the universe, except instead of data, it saves memories and secrets of the universe. The traveler used the Veil to create the ghosts so they could access it and the memories within. And since it is a relic of darkness, the ghosts are then born of darkness and that is why the Witness can hijack them. Or, the traveler used memories of the Veil to create sentient AI to stuff in the ghosts so they can make the right choice with all of the morals needed but in doing so, it made them forget their past lives as the Light forgets. And when they resurrect us, we forget because the light overwhelms us and rewrites us. But thats just a spit ball theory that I came up with in about 5 minutes. I'm sure we'll have our definitive answer sooner or later.
Watching Zavala talk to Anastasia is kind of weird him being the same guy not willing to go after uldren then crying so hard about his wife. While the bunker actually did belong to her. They all seem kinda jealous.
I have said this before. My theory on why our ghost is connected to the Darkness is because we are still connected to the Shard of the Traveler, not Traveler itself. Sure we still wield it's Light, but we also wield Darkness abilities because the shard that sits in the EDZ was touched by Darkness (presumably the Witnesses doing) and the Traveler cast it off. It sacrificed a piece of itself so it could eventually produce the Ghosts. Reply to me on what you think of my theory.
Great idea, that could be ONE reason of we as light bearers can use darkness, since or rebump on D2 vanilla, we may get a little connecti9n with dark, i think that made stasis easy for us to understand it and wield it, the same for strand
@@arielfuentes2577 True, it makes sense when you look at Destiny 2 beginning to end. Connecting to that shard was way more important than just getting our light back to defeat Ghaul. You make a fair point, I dont think we were ever explicitly told if we relinked to the traveler or not, so if it's because of the shard in the edz, that would make sense. But because i saw earlier today a supposed leak of a cutscene for this season or next. im not so sure now, but it would be interesting if it's because of that.
It's nice to finally have answers to one of my many questions about the lore of Destiny. I for one am going to stick to the story that I've given my hunter, where something went wrong during his resurrection causing him to retain his memories from life. Now that I have that information, I can now say that that's something was my Hunters ghost was damaged by the darkness during the collapse.
Yeah I know there's a lot that wouldn't work with what I'm about to say but I like it myself. I always wondered if the reason they made the choice to have our guardian not remember anything from their past life was it would be a way we could actually BE that character. Could have been some random person just living their life long long ago wiped out by any number of things that happened over the years and ghost found ... me in all that wreckage and resurrected me to help. Storywise all those memories would be nothing but a source of pain. Game building wise it lets every one of us be ourselves and a guardian at the same time.

It’s a lot easier to influence people without prior experiences to draw upon. That’s why most extreme political/social/societal opinions you see online are espoused by teenagers and early twenty-somethings.
I mean people can use dark powers without being or have being guardians so maby the explanation of our guardian is that we were a human who had figured out how to channal light or dark already. Maby we were acting as a guard. Or maby we were made directly by the traveler and left for our ghost to find
The only thing that bugs me about the memory thing is that we're totally capable of remembering our previous lives when we die and have our ghosts revive us. So are we really dying, or what the fuck is happening there?

I wasn't a crucible fan but I love the rush it give you the same with gambit. When you click on them, it load up one time to the march. I don't agree with what Bungie is doing to them to the game on the hold. They are removing all what makes the game that makes the game
I mean, light abilities aren't really physical, and darkness powers are. So yeah, they could be the same thing, just depends on how you interpret them.
The Vanguard prohibition regarding a Guardian delving into their past is policy...NOT law. Which calls into question whether any such law could be enforceable in the first place. The hierarchy or leadership of the Vanguard is by common assent/acclaim of the rest of the Guardians. There is no real formal or legal basis for whatever authority they may wield. Guardians as such...cannot have their "guardianship" revoked by the Vanguard since that status was gifted by the Traveler. Those corrupted guardians who have been otherwise...retired by the likes of the members of Shin's group or members of the Hidden and other as yet unidentified "enforcers"....those killings were extra-judicial and really have no legal basis beyond whatever need was used to rationalize or justify the action taken. Things are done because they can be done. Not because of any real authority legal or otherwise.
I still think our past self is Dr. Shim - a scientist that worked on the Vex project in the Ishtar Collective. The Collective Archive facility recognizes our Guardian as Dr. Shim when we walk in during the Archive mission in D1, and our Dinklebot says "Dr. Shim? Ahhhhh. Nevermind that." A lot of people have stated that the bodies are those of Dr. Shim and the others who were trapped in the archive, but there are Grimoire cards and lore that point to scientists making it out (such as the Winterbite Exotic lore), so it is very possible that Dr. Shim made their way to Earth after Venus.
We don’t want to see what we were doing if we weren’t killing gods and dying by our own stupidity. Also what about shin malpher the golden gunner how does he have his memories.
Our Guardian’s memory will come in the Final Shape remember we were there when the first collapsed happened. I think we stopped the collapse by sacrificing our self’s something happened on the cosmodrome that we ended there. I think we will do it again we are the last hope by sacrificing ourselves Destiny 2 ends and a new Guardian Rises. O man so many questions 😊. Let’s hope we get a epic ending for our Guardian.
Are you the kind of person who would continue on far past what anyone else would be willing to endure? Are you willing to put your life on the line repeatedly for those around you? Would you die for your people if it came to that? Are you the type of person to actively lookout for the people under your charge these are characteristics that many good men and women display repeatedly. In other words it’s the Captain’America thought process. would you jump on that grenade or lay down on that wire for your fellow man would you pull a tony stark and snap your fingers. It’s why I like Destiny so much cuz at my core I know I would even if it went unnoticed or unappreciated.
Why is it no one is touching on the fact that the traveler looks like a giant ghost when the darkness finds it, and that it may actually be one. Another thing would be that the traveler has always shown us the path to take, we start with light so that we are pure and develop in a way that we wont become corrupted by the darkness when it appears, slowly getting us closer to remembering our past and being able to wield the the darkness and light together, olmost like a mother letting her child take a first steps seeing it falter then helping it try again. The collapse may have been a trial that we failed and the traveler created the ghosts so that our frail species would have a chance to learn from it. Maybe even have been a mistake by the traveler, which if it is a ghost, who is trying to find its partner in the universe itself.
What if the witness’ species created the ghosts and they would spread out when the right civilization got the traveler and somehow send a beacon to the witness while creating an army. But we were left alone too long
It’s an absurd character conceit. My son woke me one night complaining how grandpa was bothering him and wouldn’t leave him alone. While he was still standing next to my bed the ex-wife, his mother, called to explain Poppy died a few minutes and miles away in another town. If that nasty, cruel, petty awful man can cross-over and tap-back to my son, then I pay attention. There is more than what science has measured.
I went ahead and made my own backstory. Like my exo-Titan I cast as Lost Astronaut and wears spacesuits and I try to use only the older conventional weapons. Bungie could have tapped a rich buy-in exercise for players to invest in and make their own. No need for templates and list of characters to choose from, just riff on player imagination the way radio stories let you use imagination.
I've really always thought of it as a more realistic biologic concept. Even if you can rebuild the cells to return the body to life total brain death ussually mean those memories would be lost even after revival

What if we get to find out who our guardian used to be after the Light and Darkness saga ends?
Cayde 6 remembered the long slow whisper. What’s up with that?
Because he was an exo and had it recorded in his subconscious
I always wondered about this topic
Is it possible that the Ghost creates a "backup" that resides "inside" the Traveler until it is brought back out when resurrecting? That might explain Cayde?
Get this!! It’s called A GHOST which are a symbol of darkness.
Take a closer look at the gost and at the travler when it is surounded by the piramid ships, put the picture of the 2 next to eachother and tel me what do you thinc is bungie hinting at .
Correction. Crow/Uldren DOES remember. Savathun took down the wall. Ana however does not remember, she just knows through research.
do people in this universe not carry around an ID in their pockets?
0:45 little face in the mask visor?!?!?!
I have a feeling my guardian had a heavy relationship with tequila. Probably explains it.
Does a guardian's past life of how they were like, what life they lived and their personality determine their class. Titan/Hunter/Warlock?
I think the traveler does it on pourpse. To manipulate you.
Wow very very very cool
HELLO GUARDIAN
so if the light cant remember how can it ever winn considering it cant remeber its old mistaks?
I’m just going to throw this here. I am extremely facilitated by the way you put these things together. Bungie SHOULD be reaching out to you to pick your brain about where the story could head. I don’t read the lore much but hot damn you make it interesting. Thank you! 👏
the memory wus erased for the guardian to survive the brain tended to shut itself down otherwise it wus so with the exos anyway so im sure itäs the same way here
Missed the red war miss visiting titan, Mars and Venus. Miss when you buy a season pass, you unlock everything. Missing everything that makes Destiny well Destiny. I love playing this game. I first played it on PC for the beta and it got me hook. The game mechanics, the weapons, the armor and the story. Then I got it on console PS4 where I played it everyday, every night.
Strand and stasis physically bind things and light gives it certain properties like burning or electrifying
Fun fact
Annas full name means resurrection which is greek and Russian
Hello guardian
Honestly I always thought Ghosts took out previous personalities.
Has there been any ghosts that turned on their guardian?
Fynch, he refused to raise his hive guardian
There's Fynch, Gilgamesh (Katabasis' ghost) and an unnamed ghost who was paired with a Lightbearer who was insane.
I still think our past self is Dr. Shim - a scientist that worked on the Vex project in the Ishtar Collective. The Collective Archive facility recognizes our Guardian as Dr. Shim when we walk in during the Archive mission in D1, and our Dinklebot says "Dr. Shim? Ahhhhh. Nevermind that."
A lot of people have stated that the bodies are those of Dr. Shim and the others who were trapped in the archive, but there are Grimoire cards and lore that point to scientists making it out (such as the Winterbite Exotic lore), so it is very possible that Dr. Shim made their way to Earth after Venus.
So if that's the case how was Zavala able to remember that he had a son and wife and remembered their names?
Zavala had a wife and son after he was resurrected
Doesn't drifter more or less still have his memories
No memory at all? No memory of our family or job ? Sounds great, actually
it's also a con because you don't remember who you are
We don’t want to see what we were doing if we weren’t killing gods and dying by our own stupidity. Also what about shin malpher the golden gunner how does he have his memories.
Because he received a ghost not resurrected by one
The real question is why didn’t savathun lose her memory after she was resurrected…?
She did, but by replaying her memories during the campaign, she regained her memory.
Bet the ghost came from the darkness not the traveler
Are you the kind of person who would continue on far past what anyone else would be willing to endure? Are you willing to put your life on the line repeatedly for those around you? Would you die for your people if it came to that? Are you the type of person to actively lookout for the people under your charge these are characteristics that many good men and women display repeatedly. In other words it’s the Captain’America thought process. would you jump on that grenade or lay down on that wire for your fellow man would you pull a tony stark and snap your fingers. It’s why I like Destiny so much cuz at my core I know I would even if it went unnoticed or unappreciated.
lol
Why can't guardians reproduce
But we were left alone too long
First! Yeahhhh!
Good for you no one cares
Ana bray “those are the rules” “…I’m not good with rules” goooooooood shut uuuuuuuuuuuup
Second!!!
First?!
Who fucking cares
Just here to say crow is still trash
I've really always thought of it as a more realistic biologic concept. Even if you can rebuild the cells to return the body to life total brain death ussually mean those memories would be lost even after revival
